New Indonesian Report Warns Religious Minorities Fear Intolerance

(Worthy News) – CSW’s new report on freedom of religion or belief in Indonesia warns that religious minorities are increasingly fearful of intolerance.

A new report on freedom of religion or belief (FoRB) in Indonesia by Christian Solidarity Worldwide (CSW) warns that religious minorities in the country are increasingly fearful of rising religious intolerance.

The report follows a fact-finding visit by CSW to Indonesia in May 2017, shortly after the verdict was delivered in the blasphemy trial of the former governor of Jakarta. Basuki Tjahaja Purnama, also known as Ahok, is a double minority as an ethnic Chinese Indonesian and a Christian. He was falsely charged with blasphemy during his re-election campaign. CSW is running a letter-writing campaign to encourage Ahok in prison. [ Source:Christian Solidarity Worldwide (Read More…) ]

South Carolina: Breakaway Anglicans Must Return 29 Churches

(Worthy News) – A conservative South Carolina diocese that left The Episcopal Church five years ago has been involved in a complicated dispute over its name, leadership, and land ever since.

Today, the Palmetto State’s supreme court decided that the Diocese of South Carolina—which contains about 50 churches and 20,000 parishioners and is now part of the Anglican Church in North America (ACNA)—does not get to keep about $500 million worth of historic church properties that it claimed in the split.

The ruling declares that 29 local parishes cannot take their properties with them and must return them to the Episcopal Church. However, the breakaway diocese can continue to use its name, seal, and symbols. [ Source (Read More…) ]

US Senate panel to vote on Taylor Force Act

(Worthy News) – The US Senate Foreign Relations Committee will vote on Thursday morning to proceed with the Taylor Force Act, after its leadership made significant revisions to the legislation in consultation with the Trump administration, Israel and the Palestinian Authority.

The bill – which threatens to cut aid to the PA should it continue with its program of paying staying stipends to Palestinians convicted of terrorist acts by Israel, and to the families of slain terrorists – was originally drafted exclusively by Republican lawmakers. But its language has been amended in an effort to broaden support and provide the executive branch with flexibility in punishing the PA.

The revised bill would compel the State Department to cut off funding to the PA, but “spells out the steps by which payments to the PA could resume,” said the office of Sen. Lindsey Graham, Republican of South Carolina, who authored the legislation. [ Source (Read More…) ]

Israeli spy agency uncovers Gaza-Turkey-West Bank terror money trail

(Worthy News) – A Hamas money laundering ring transferring money from officials in Gaza, via Turkey, to the West Bank city of Hebron has been exposed by the Shin Bet, IDF and Israel Police, the internal security agency cleared for publication on Thursday.

According to a statement by the Shin Bet internal security agency the money laundering ring was run by senior Hamas activist Muhammed Mahed Bader from Hebron. Bader, a member of the group’s legislative council recruited two other Hamas activists from Hebron, Mus’ab al-Haslom and Taha Othman, who were sent to Turkey under the guise of business trips.

While in Turkey the two met with Hamas activist Haroun Nasser al-Din, another Hebron resident who was released from Israeli prison as part of the prisoner exchange deal for kidnapped Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit. Al-Haslom and two others, his brother Yusri Hashalom and Omer Kimari are said to have been in contact with Majed Jaba, a Hamas activist originally from Hebron but exiled to the Gaza Strip after having been released as part of the Shalit prisoner deal. Jaba is suspected of helping to transfer funds. [ Source (Read More…) ]

US runs successful ICBM test launch in California

(Worthy News) – The U.S. military successfully test-launched an intercontinental ballistic missile from an Air Force base northwest of Los Angeles early Wednesday.

An unarmed Minuteman III missile was launched from Vandenberg Air Force Base at 2:10 a.m. local time and traveled about 4,200 miles to the Kwajalein Atoll in the Marshall Islands.

“While not a response to recent North Korean actions, the test demonstrates that the United States’ nuclear enterprise is safe, secure, effective and ready to be able to deter, detect and defend against attacks on the United States and its allies,” said a statement from the U.S. Air Force Global Strike Command. Trump eager to declare Iran noncompliant on nuclear deal; Tillerson argues for leverage

(Worthy News) – A heated behind-the-scenes debate is playing out among high-level Trump administration advisers over whether the president should declare Iran in violation of the nuclear accord reached under his predecessor, President Obama.

Despite harsh criticism on the campaign trail and since taking office, Mr. Trump has grudgingly kept the deal alive so far, but he appears increasingly determined to break with some of his top advisers on the matter when the nuclear accord next comes up for review in October, sources say.

Such a move would be a major first step toward fulfilling a campaign promise to pull Washington out of the accord but also could trigger the administration’s biggest clash with U.S. allies since withdrawing from the Paris climate agreement in June. [ Source:Washington Times (Read More…) ]
