Federal Judge Rules in Favor of Good News Clubs in Indiana Public School District

(Worthy News) – A federal court in Indiana hands a victory to Good News Clubs in one public school district.

Good News Clubs are a Bible-based after-school program for elementary students. They’re one of the ministries of Child Evangelism Fellowship, which requested a preliminary injunction against a policy of the Indiana Metropolitan School District of Pike Township.

The Indianapolis school district required CEF to pay facilities use fees for Good News Club meetings but waived the fees for “similarly situated, non-religious groups,” according to Child Evangelism Fellowship. [ Source (Read More…) ]

(Worthy News) – Armed Fulani herdsmen on Friday (Aug. 4) kidnapped a pastor as he and his driver were traveling in central Nigeria’s Plateau state, the wounded driver told Morning Star News.

The Rev. Jen Tivkaa Moses and his driver, Yohanna Maina, were on their way to Abuja from Jos to attend a church seminar planned for Saturday (Aug. 5) when the armed Fulanis stopped them on the Kafanchan-Kwoi-Bwari highway at about 8 p.m. near Jere village.

Maina said that Pastor Moses, director of the Christian Education Department of the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA), was praying loudly when he last saw him held at gunpoint by the kidnappers. Illegal immigration statistics show Trump’s resolve to keep campaign promise

Illegal immigration statistics show Trump’s resolve to keep campaign promise

(Worthy News) – President Trump has overseen huge increases in arresting illegal immigrants inside the U.S., pushing them through the immigration courts toward deportations and stopping newcomers from entering along the southwestern border, according to statistics released Tuesday.

While the giant border gains reported in the early days of the presidency have diminished, Mr. Trump is still well ahead of the Obama era, with the number of illegal immigrants being snared — a measure of the overall flow — down by 46 percent in July compared with the same period last year.

The immigration courts are also moving faster in ordering deportations, issuing nearly 50,000 removal orders from February through July — up 28 percent compared with the same period last year under President Obama. [ Source (Read More…) ]

Australian Prime Minister: Same-Sex Marriage Could Be Legalized Before Year’s End

(Worthy News) – Australia’s prime minister said that he supports legalizing same-sex marriage in a possible nationwide vote, and he expects the people to vote with him.

Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull said that he expects the country to vote “yes” on the issue that has divided his center-right Liberal Party, the Chicago Sun-Times reports. Turnbull ran in 2016 on the promise to let Australian voters decide the issue, but the Australian Senate must still approve the plebiscite before it can officially go before the Australian people.

Russia downplays North Korea’s saber-rattling, tells US to be ‘prudent’

(Worthy News) – Russia’s top diplomat downplayed North Korea’s nuclear saber-rattling following a diplomatic summit Tuesday, and said the United States has to take “prudent” steps to deescalate the crisis.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov emphasized that North Korea always complains about sanctions imposed by the United Nations Security Council. The regime threatened a “physical” response to the new sanctions and warned South Korea it has the ability turn “Seoul into a sea of flame,” but Lavrov betrayed little alarm.

“Strictly speaking, this is how representatives of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea have reacted to all previous U.N. Security Council resolutions,” he told reporters Tuesday following an east Asia diplomatic summit in the Philippines. “We will judge by their actions.” [ Source (Read More…) ]

The corruption scandals plaguing Netanyahu and his family, explained

(Worthy News) – Netanyahu appeared to be in increasing peril as of last week, when Ari Harow, his American-born former chief of staff, became a state witness. Despite it all, Netanyahu has remained confident. He has accused the Israeli media of peddling “fake news” about the scandals. On Monday, responding to an article predicting his ouster, Netanyahu tweeted two words: “Won’t happen.”

But will it happen? After winning four Israeli elections, will Netanyahu be done in by his own misdeeds (or is it prosecutorial overreach)? [ Source (Read More…) ]

Under Trump, gun sales fall dramatically

(Worthy News) – Gun sales appear to be slipping yet again after the Obama surge, with federal gun background checks dropping more than 20 percent last month — the biggest monthly percentage decline in more than three years.

With President Trump now firmly in office, the fear of new federal controls that could restrict ownership has faded, said Alan Gottlieb, chairman of the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms.

“Gun owners no longer feel highly threatened by the Obama administration or by a future Hillary Clinton administration,” Mr. Gottlieb said. “As a result, the rush to buy guns is no longer there.” [ Source: Washington Times (Read More…) ]
