(Worthy News) – Evangelical Protestants make up the majority of the 181 cases prosecuted by Russian authorities under the country’s notorious ‘anti-missionary’ laws, which came into force last July, according to a report. Christians were also prosecuted in Crimea, which Russia occupied in 2014.

Norway-based group Forum 18 recorded 181 cases since July 20, 2016, two weeks after the laws were signed by President Vladimir Putin to ban evangelism outside of churches.

Of these prosecutions under Parts 3, 4, and 5 of Administrative Code Article 5.26, as many as 57 cases were against Protestant churches, including Pentecostals; 26 against Baptists; six against people associated with the Gideon’s; and three against Seventh-day Adventists.

(Worthy News) – A U.S. appeals court on Wednesday reversed a ruling that prevented Arkansas from cutting off Medicaid funding to Planned Parenthood following the release of controversial videos secretly recorded by an anti-abortion group.

The 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in St. Louis reversed a ruling forbidding Arkansas from carrying through with Republican Governor Asa Hutchinson’s directive to suspend Medicaid reimbursements to a Planned Parenthood affiliate.

But by a 2-1 vote, a 8th Circuit said the provision of the Medicaid law the women relied on does not unambiguously create a federal right for individual patients that they could enforce in court. [ Source (Read More…) ]

(Worthy News) – North Korea would be ‘crossing a red line’ if it put a nuclear warhead on an intercontinental ballistic missile, South Korea’s president said on Thursday, but the United States had promised to seek Seoul’s approval before taking any military action.

North Korea’s rapid progress in developing nuclear weapons and missiles capable of reaching the U.S. mainland has fueled a surge in tensions in recent days. Pyongyang has threatened to fire missiles towards the Pacific island of Guam and U.S. President Donald Trump has warned it would face “fire and fury” if it threatened the United States.

“I would consider that North Korea is crossing a red line if it launches an intercontinental ballistic missile again and weaponizes it by putting a nuclear warhead on top of the missile,” South Korean President Moon Jae-in said at a news conference marking his first 100 days in office. IAF successfully intercepts target UAV with Patriot missile

(Worthy News) – A Patriot surface-to-air missile was successfully test fired Wednesday from a base in central Israel as part of an air force exercise designed to test Israel’s air defense capabilities against threats.

As part of the exercise, the American-made system scored a direct hit on an airborne UAV.

According to a statement from the IDF Spokesperson’s Unit, the successful interception was part of a larger exercise planned in advance for 2017. [ Source (Read More…) ]

Hamas warns it will ‘crush’ Israel in future war

(Worthy News) – Hamas’s chief in the Gaza Strip, Yahya Sinwar, said on Wednesday that his movement was not interested in a war, but added that should a conflict break out, Hamas will “crush” Israel.

“We are not seeking a confrontation with the Israelis, but if there is a confrontation, we will crush them,” Sinwar reportedly said, in his first meeting with journalists since ascending to power six months ago.

Trump Administration Calls to End Marketing of 3-Parent Embryo Experiments

(Worthy News) – The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has demanded a fertility doctor halt all marketing on an unapproved IVF experiment that creates a human embryo by combining DNA from three separate people.

In an Aug. 4 letter to John Zhang, the chief executive officer of Darwin Life and New Hope Fertility Center, the FDA reminded the fertility doctor that his request to run clinical trials on mitochondrial replacement technology (MRT) was denied because it would involve the “intentional creation of a genetically modified embryo.”

Congress, since December 2015, prohibits the FDA from reviewing any applications for clinical experiments that use genetically modified human embryos. [ Source (Read More…) ]
