U.S. slams UNHRC on Israel, Iran

(Worthy News) – The United States on Wednesday slammed the United Nations Human Rights Council for its biased treatment of Israel and for providing a platform to human rights abusers such as Iran.

“It is unacceptable that the HRC treats Israel differently from every other UN member,” US Ambassador Mary Catherine Phee said.

“The institutional integrity of the Council demands that the efforts to delegitimize and isolate Israel through such blatant bias must end,” Phee told the council as it met this week in Geneva for the start of its 37th session that ends on March 23rd. [ Source: Jerusalem Post (Read More…) ]

Iran is playing with fire, Israeli defense official warns

(Worthy News) – Iran is “playing with fire” in its efforts to entrench itself in Syria, Israel’s northern neighbor, a senior Israeli defense official warned Wednesday.

The statement followed a Fox News report that included satellite images that prove Iran is building another permanent military base in Syria.

The images, taken by Israeli firm ImageSat International, clearly show what is believed to be a new Iranian base in Jabal ash Sharqi, a mountainous area eight miles northwest of Damascus. The structures include two hangars that Western intelligence sources said are likely to store medium- and long-range missiles capable of hitting all of Israel. [ Source: Israel Hayom (Read More…) ]

Report: US peace plan to include east Jerusalem as Palestinian capital

(Worthy News) – U.S. President Donald Trump’s Israel-Palestinian peace plan will call for an independent Palestinian state with east Jerusalem as its capital, the London-based Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper reported Wednesday,

A French diplomat told the Arabic-language daily that the Trump administration is expected to reveal its peace plan at an upcoming international conference in Cairo.

The report says that under Trump’s peace plan, the U.S. will recognize an independent Palestinian state with east Jerusalem as its capital on condition that the disputed old city, home to sites holy to Judaism, Christianity and Islam, is administered by an international custodian. U.S. hopes for U.N. vote on new Syria toxic gas inquiry next week

U.S. hopes for U.N. vote on new Syria toxic gas inquiry next week

(Worthy News) – The United States wants the United Nations Security Council to create a new inquiry into who is to blame for chemical weapons attacks in Syria, and U.S. Ambassador Nikki Haley said on Thursday she hopes to put it to a vote as early as next week.

A previous international investigation, known as the Joint Investigative Mechanism (JIM), ended in November after Russia blocked for the third time in a month attempts to renew the inquiry, which Moscow has slammed as flawed.

Russia then in January proposed its own draft resolution to create a new inquiry, but has never put it to a vote. The United States slammed the Russian text as a bid to distract from a French initiative to target perpetrators of toxic gas attacks. [ Source: Reuters (Read More…) ]

‘Tortured For Christ’ Movie to Premiere in Theaters Telling True Story Of One Man’s Unwavering Faith

‘Tortured For Christ’ Movie to Premiere in Theaters Telling True Story Of One Man’s Unwavering Faith

(Worthy News) – The Voice of the Martyrs presents “Tortured For Christ” the movie, a true-life cinematic retelling of the testimony of VOM founder Pastor Richard Wurmbrand, who kept his faith despite facing 14 years of torture in a communist prison.

The film will tell the powerful account written in Wurmbrand’s international bestselling book, Tortured for Christ. The timing of the film lines up just in time to honor the 50th anniversary of the book’s 1967 release.

In keeping the cinematic portrayal as real as possible, filmmakers shot the picture in Romania – in the very prison where Pastor Wurmbrand was tortured and spent so much time in solitary confinement. The dialogue will be presented in English, Romanian and Russian (with English subtitles) to also hold to the authenticity of this true story. All scenes were acted out rather than being in interview form. [ Source: Christian Post (Read More…) ]

Hawaii Dumped 1.5 Billion Gallons Of Lava Into Pacific As Volcano Wall Collapses

Hawaii Dumped 1.5 Billion Gallons Of Lava Into Pacific As Volcano Wall Collapses

(Worthy News) – A rare volcano wall collapse was captured recently on Kīlauea volcano, one of the most active volcanoes in the world. The collapse occurred on February 10th, at 8:21 a.m. local time when a massive chunk of the volcano collapsed.

The sudden collapse was on Kīlauea volcano’s active East Rift Zone, specifically on the northeast rim of the west pit in Pu’u O’o. This collapse was coincident with subsidence as the adjacent ground fell. Kīlauea volcano is actively monitored by the USGS on the island, looking for evidence of new eruptions and danger to local communities.

While there have been several new lava channels and points where lava has breached the surface of the island, there are no active threats to the local communities. This is, in part, due to the protected Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, which protects some of the most active volcanic areas of the island from development and tourists.
