Netanyahu says he told Trump Israel doesn’t want to rule over the Palestinians

(Worthy News) – Less than one-fourth of his meeting with US President Donald Trump on Monday was devoted to the Palestinian issue, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told reporters hours later in a briefing.

“The issue of the Palestinians came up in the terms I described — the security question,” Netanyahu said. “Not more than quarter of the time [we discussed] the Palestinians.”

The Israeli premier added that the Trump administration has not showed him its much-anticipated peace plan, which officials have said they are finalizing and plan to unveil in the near future. They have given no specific timetable. [ Source: Times of Israel (Read More…) ]

Gaza on the brink of explosion, Hamas warns

(Worthy News) – Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh warned Monday that the Gaza Strip was on the brink of an “explosion” because of the continued Palestinian power struggle between his group and the Palestinian Authority.

Everyone “realizes that the Gaza Strip is sitting on a volcano,” Haniyeh cautioned while speaking to reporters in Gaza City.

“No one knows what will be the consequences of the explosion or its impact on the region,” he said. [ Source: Times of Israel (Read More…) ]

Op-Ed: A new, pro-life way to save the unborn

Op-Ed: A new, pro-life way to save the unborn

(Worthy News) – Pro-life advocates in Minnesota are on the right track to saving babies — in a way that’s far more creative, and likely to pass, than many similar anti-abortion measures Congress has attempted to pass. Lawmakers introduced S.F. 2849, which would guarantee a woman’s right to view her baby with an ultrasound, prior to choosing an abortion. The House is also introducing a version. The bill would add a paragraph to the existing 2003 Woman’s Right to Know informed consent statute.

Of course, Minnesota Citizens Concerned for Life, the state’s oldest and largest pro-life organization, supports the measure. “Women have a right to be well-informed before undergoing any medical procedure, including abortion,” said MCCL Legislative Director Andrea Rau. “Ultrasound provides factual, medical information that should not be withheld from women.”

While there’s perhaps not as much evidence as pro-life advocates would like there to be that says women are changing their minds about abortions, once they have seen the ultrasound of their baby, there is some evidence. In contrast to the black and white, flat sketches previous ultrasounds used to offer pregnant women, ultrasounds are so advanced now that 3D/4D technology reflects a baby that actually looks like a plump tiny person with flesh and expressions (as there are!). Republicans push Trump to exempt some countries from steel tariffs

Republicans push Trump to exempt some countries from steel tariffs

(Worthy News) – House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Kevin Brady said Monday that he and other House Republicans will ask President Trump to exempt some countries from promised steel and aluminum tariffs, but stopped short of suggesting that Congress could pursue a legislative response.

“We think tailoring the tariffs strengthens the president’s hand in a major way, and make sure that American manufacturing workers aren’t caught up in the unintended consequences of a broader tariff action,” Brady, R-Texas, told reporters Monday afternoon at the Capitol.

Trump has pledged to use his power to set tariffs for national security purposes to implement an across-the-board 25 percent tariff on steel imports and a 10 percent tariff on aluminum imports. [ Source: Washington Examiner (Read More…) ]

Trump administration asks Supreme Court to allow Internet sales tax collection

Trump administration asks Supreme Court to allow Internet sales tax collection

(Worthy News) – The Trump administration officially asked the Supreme Court Monday to rule in favor of states that seek greater authority to collect sales taxes on Internet purchases, taking sides in a case bound to divide Republicans.

In an amicus brief filed Monday, Solicitor General Noel Francisco asked the court to update its jurisprudence regarding states’ power to collect sales taxes from companies that aren’t physically in the state.

“In light of Internet retailers’ pervasive and continuous virtual presence in the states where their websites are accessible, the states have ample authority to require those retailers to collect state sales taxes owed by their customers,” administration lawyers wrote in their brief. Florida Senate passes bill to put restrictions on gun sales

Florida Senate passes bill to put restrictions on gun sales

(Worthy News) – In response to a deadly Florida school shooting last month, the state’s Senate narrowly passed a bill Monday that would create new restrictions on rifle sales and allow some teachers to carry guns in schools.

The 20-18 vote came after three hours of often emotional debate. Support and opposition crossed party lines, and it was clear many of those who voted for the bill weren’t entirely happy with it.

“Do I think this bill goes far enough? No! No, I don’t!” said Democratic Sen. Lauren Book, who tearfully described visiting Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School after 17 people were fatally shot on Valentine’s Day. [ Source: ABC News (Read More…) ]

Judge rules Trump’s DACA phaseout legal

Judge rules Trump’s DACA phaseout legal

(Worthy News) – A federal judge ruled Monday that President Trump’s phaseout of the Obama-era DACA program is legal, adding heft to the administration’s defense but doing little to solve the ongoing court quagmire.

The ruling does not overturn two other federal courts, who had previously blocked the phaseout, which was supposed to take effect Monday. But it does offer a needed boost as the Justice Department appeals those other two rulings.

Judge Roger W. Titus, a Bush appointee to the bench in Maryland, said the judges in California and New York who blocked the phaseout attempted to substitute their own judgments for that of the Homeland Security Department, crossing constitutional lines in order to strike at Mr. Trump’s policies.
