IDF retaliates following explosion on northern Gaza border

IDF retaliates following explosion on northern Gaza border

(Worthy News) – Two explosive devices were detonated near the border fence along the northern Gaza Strip early Thursday morning. There were no casualties as the explosion was not near IDF soldiers. In retaliation, the IDF attacked five Hamas positions using tanks, and fired airstrikes at a sixth position.

Palestinian sources reported Israeli airstrikes in the Gaza Strip and the death of two Palestinians.

IDF soldiers recognized suspicious movements while routinely patrolling the area during foggy weather Wednesday night. IDF spokesperson Ronen Manelis assessed that the fog, or the auspices of the ongoing demonstrations by Palestinians by the fence, were what enabled the explosives to be placed in Israeli territory. South Korea gears up for summit, report shows North Korea testing reactor

(Worthy News) – South Korean officials began preparations on Friday for a summit next month with North Korea aimed at reducing tensions on the peninsula, as a report showed the North had probably begun testing a nuclear reactor as recently as late February.

The report by intelligence analysts at Jane’s by IHS Markit said satellite imagery from Feb. 25 showed emissions of non-condensable gases from a stack at the North’s experimental light water reactor (ELWR) at the Yongbyon Atomic Energy Research Center, suggesting preliminary testing had likely begun.

The reactor could be used to produce weapons-grade plutonium, but North Korea is believed to already have enough fissile material for multiple nuclear bombs, according to Joshua Pollack, a senior research associate at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey. Trump administration blames Russian hackers with targeting energy grid, critical infrastructure

(Worthy News) – Russian government hackers have spent the last two years waging cyberattacks against U.S. government entities and multiple critical infrastructure sectors, the Trump administration said Thursday, marking the first time the White House has officially accused the Kremlin of attempting to breach its power grid amid rising tensions between Washington and Moscow.

Since March 2016, hackers working for the Russian government have targeted government entities and elements of the American energy, nuclear, commercial facilities, water, aviation and critical manufacturing sectors, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and FBI warned in a technical alert.

“Russian government cyber actors […] targeted small commercial facilities’ networks where they staged malware, conducted spear-phishing and gained remote access into energy sector networks,” the alert said. [ Source: Washington Times (Read More…) ]
