(Worthy News) – Organizers for the “March For Our Lives” initially predicted their rally in the nation’s capital would draw, at minimum, 500,000 people. In the aftermath, the well-organized group said 850,000 showed up Saturday. One source claims otherwise.

“More than 200,000 people attended the March for Our Lives demonstration in Washington D.C. on Saturday,” according to Digital Design & Imaging Service Inc. (DDIS). The Virginia-based firm uses a proprietary method for calculating crowd size using aerial photos. CBS News, citing the analysis, reported, “The peak crowd size was 202,796 people, with a margin of error of 15 percent, the firm said. The crowd reached its largest size at 1 p.m., according to the company’s estimates. The organizers put the total number of attendees at closer to 800,000.”

(Worthy News) – Insurers have a few months to decide whether to participate in Obamacare’s exchanges after an effort to stabilize them fell apart Thursday.

The deadline to submit health plans and preliminary costs for the law’s exchanges is June 20, and insurers will have to make the decision on participation knowing that a bill to give them funding to help lower premiums won’t be coming anytime soon.

Experts predict that premiums on the exchanges will be higher next year, when the government stops fining people for not having insurance. Open enrollment starts Nov. 1. [ Source: Washington Examiner (Read More…) ]

(Worthy News) – A French judicial official says three homemade explosive devices have been found in the supermarket in southern France that was the site of a deadly attack by a man calling himself “a soldier” of the Islamic State group.

Also found were a 7.65-caliber handgun and a hunting knife, the official said on Saturday. He wasn’t authorized to speak publicly about an ongoing investigation.

The supermarket in Trebes was the site of an hours-long attack Friday that killed four people. The 25-year-old Moroccan-born attacker was himself killed when special police stormed the market. [ Source: TIME (Read More…) ]

(Worthy News) – A Chinese space station that Beijing reportedly lost control of is expected to hit the Earth on or around April 1.

Tiangong-1, a satellite the size of a school bus that China launched in 2011, is not expected to survive reentry into the Earth’s atmosphere but scientists have warned debris could hit a couple of areas.

The satellite is expected to fall out of orbit between March 29 and April 4 and reenter the atmosphere somewhere between 43 degrees North and 43 degrees South, according to the Aerospace Corporation. [ Source: The Hill (Read More…) ]

(Worthy News) – Protests broke out across the Spanish region of Catalonia on Sunday after former leader Carles Puigdemont was taken into custody in Germany.

At least 89 people were injured in clashes with police and four arrests were made.

Mr Puigdemont, who is wanted in Spain for sedition and rebellion, was detained by German police acting on a European arrest warrant.

(Worthy News) – A Pakistani court has acquitted 20 people of charges that they were part of a lynch mob who burned alive a Christian couple that had been falsely accused of blasphemy in 2014.

Brick-factory workers Shahzad Masih, 26, and Shama Shahzad, 24, were burned alive in an industrial kiln by a mob that had been incited by accusations the couple desecrated the Koran near the town of Kot Radha Kishan in Punjab by throwing away pages of the Islamic holy book along with the trash.

After the attack, it emerged that the couple had been falsely accused.

(Worthy News) – President Donald Trump signed a memorandum on Friday that bans some transgender individuals from serving in the U.S. military, but gives the armed forces latitude in implementing policies.

The memorandum said transgender individuals with a history of gender dysphoria, defined as “those who may require substantial medical treatment, including through medical drugs or surgery,” are disqualified from military service “except under certain limited circumstances.”

It added that the secretaries of defense and homeland security “may exercise their authority to implement any appropriate policies concerning military service by transgender individuals.” [ Source: Reuters (Read More…) ]

(Worthy News) – Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman warned on Sunday that Israel’s northern communities are severely unprepared for war.

“The better [preparedness] is in the South, in the area around the Gaza Strip. The worst situation is in the North,” he said at a conference organized by Yediot Aharonot.

Liberman said that since the Second Lebanon War in 2006, the government has invested some NIS 1.7 billion ($485 million) in protective facilities in southern Israel around the Gaza Strip, where some 46,000 residents live, spending an estimated NIS 37,000 ($10,600) per resident. “The month of May, with the days of independence and nakba [catastrophe], signal that a possible explosion is coming, [driven on the Palestinian side by] growing frustration and hopelessness,” he said at a conference organized by Yediot Aharonot to mark the upcoming Independence Day.

Halevi’s warning comes one week before Palestinians mark Land Day, with thousands of Gazans expected to set up several “tent cities” as close as they can to the border fence and to remain there until Nakba Day, on May 15, as a form of peaceful resistance. (Worthy News) – Germany and France are to impose new sanctions on Russia over the UK gas attack, with some measures due as early as Monday (26 March).

“We, Germany and France, agreed that such reactions in addition to the recall of the [EU] ambassador are necessary,” German chancellor Angela Merkel said at a joint press briefing with French president Emmanuel Macron in Brussels on Friday.
