7 Gazans said killed, 500 wounded amid massive border protests

(Worthy News) – Seven Palestinians were killed and some 500 were wounded by Israeli rubber bullets and live fire in the Gaza Strip on Friday, as a series of massive protests intensified along the security fence surrounding the Hamas-controlled enclave, Palestinian sources said.

The Israel Defense Forces estimated that 17,000 Palestinians were taking part in “March of Return” demonstrations along the Gaza border, focused at five main protest sites where rioters threw petrol bombs and stones at troops, and burned tires.

Six were reported killed in escalating violence by the Hamas-run Gaza health ministry, hours after a Gaza man was killed at the border in disputed circumstances. [ Source: Times of Israel (Read More…) ]

Extreme vetting: State Department to demand tourists’ social media history

Extreme vetting: State Department to demand tourists’ social media history

(Worthy News) – The State Department will publish new rules this week to require most visitors and immigrants to the U.S. to divulge their recent social media histories, carrying out one of the key security enhancements from President Trump’s extreme vetting executive order.

Travelers would also be asked to list phone numbers, email addresses and international travel during the previous five years, and to detail any immigration problems they have had, whether with the U.S. or elsewhere. They also will be asked about potential family connections to terrorism.

In a striking move, would-be immigrants from countries where female genital mutilation is prevalent — mostly in Africa — would be directed to a website ensuring that they are aware the practice is largely illegal in the U.S. [ Source: Washington Times (Read More…) ]

Trump has talked to Mattis about U.S.-Mexico wall funding: Pentagon

(Worthy News) – Defense Secretary Jim Mattis has spoken with U.S. President Donald Trump about the potential use of military funds for a border wall with Mexico, the Pentagon said on Thursday.

Trump, who last week got a fraction of the funding he wanted from Congress to fulfill a campaign promise by building the wall, suggested over the weekend that he might turn to the military for the money.

Mattis and Trump “have talked about the proposal, potentially, but, remember, securing Americans and securing the nation is of paramount importance to the secretary,” Pentagon spokeswoman Dana White told reporters. [ Source: Reuters (Read More…) ]

James Dobson Says Republicans Betrayed Christians by Funding Planned Parenthood

James Dobson Says Republicans Betrayed Christians by Funding Planned Parenthood

(Worthy News) – Prominent evangelical leader James Dobson has voiced his disapproval with Republicans in Congress for passing a spending bill that he considers to be a “betrayal” to those who voted for them.

Dobson, the founder of Focus on the Family and Family Talk radio, issued a statement on Wednesday condemning the Republican establishment for passing a $1.3 trillion omnibus bill that still provides over $500 million in funding to the nation’s largest abortion chain.

“In passing the very immoral Omnibus spending bill, the Republican establishment in both the House and the Senate has betrayed those who put them in office in the first place,” the 81-year-old Dobson argued. “While there are multiple reasons for which conservatives should take issue with such a bill, Christians specifically should be outraged by the inclusion, once again, of half a billion dollars in taxpayer funding for the country’s number one abortion provider, Planned Parenthood.” [ Source: Christian Post (Read More…) ]

Strong earthquake hits Papua New Guinea

Strong earthquake hits Papua New Guinea

(Worthy News) – A powerful earthquake struck Papua New Guinea early Friday, one month after an even stronger quake killed 125 people on the island nation.

Hawaii’s Pacific Tsunami Warning Center registered the tremor at a magnitude of 7.2, but said that an immediate danger had passed. There were no immediate reports of damages or casualties, this is not unusual however, as the country’s mountainous and remote landscape can make it difficult to ascertain the extent of a quake’s impact for several days.
