(Worthy News) – A U.S. appeals court on Friday allowed Texas to implement a law requiring photo identification at the ballot box, reversing a lower court decision that blocked the measure on the grounds it could be discriminatory against racial minorities.

In a 2-1 decision, a panel from the New Orleans-based 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals upheld the law, which was designed as a fix for previous voter ID legislation struck down for being discriminatory.

The panel said the new legislation enacted last year had “improvements for disadvantaged minority voters,” the latest chapter in a seven-year dispute over voter ID at the ballot box in Texas, the most-populous Republican-controlled state. [ Source: Reuters (Read More…) ]

(Worthy News) – U.S. President Donald Trump on Saturday threatened to shut down the federal government in September if Congress did not provide more funding to build a wall on the border with Mexico.

“That wall has started, we have 1.6 billion (dollars),” Trump said at a campaign rally in Washington, Michigan.

(Worthy News) – Two-thirds (65%) of white Democrats do not believe in a God or higher spiritual power that is “all-knowing, all-powerful, and all-loving,” Pew Research Center reported Wednesday.

Pew released results of a new survey of more than 4,700 U.S. adults regarding their views on the existence and nature of “God, higher power or spiritual force” showing that 95% of Republicans and 95% of nonwhite Democrats believe in God/higher power. (Worthy News) – Saudi Arabia’s powerful Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman recently told Jewish leaders in New York that he’s fed up with Palestinian leaders who should accept the Trump administration’s proposals on a potential peace agreement with Israel, according to a report Sunday.

“In the last several decades the Palestinian leadership has missed on opportunity after the other and rejected all the peace proposals it was given,” Salman said in a closed-door meeting with heads of Jewish organizations in New York on March 27, Axios reported . “It is about time the Palestinians take the proposals and agree to come to the negotiations table or shut up and stop complaining.”

(Worthy News) – The illegal immigrant caravan swamped border officials in San Diego Sunday as hundreds of people showed up at the San Ysidro port of entry and demanded admittance and asylum as reporters, immigrant rights activists and Mexican watched.

After a month of traveling across Mexico, hundreds of people, most of them from Honduras, massed in Tijuana and began to present themselves to U.S. border officials, reciting the script they’ve been coached to deliver to clear the first hurdles toward asylum.

(Worthy News) – President Donald Trump will unveil his long-gestating peace plan after the U.S. opens its new embassy in Jerusalem, an Israeli source stated on Saturday.

Media reports have indicated that Trump’s plan is finished, but until now there have been no indications as to when it might be made public.

(Worthy News) – With a deadline for amending the Iran nuclear deal or walking away from it just weeks away, US President Donald Trump spoke to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu by phone Saturday about Tehran’s malign influence on the region, the White House said on Sunday.

“The two leaders discussed the continuing threats and challenges facing the Middle East region, especially the problems posed by the Iranian regime’s destabilizing activities,” according to a White House readout of the conversation.

Earlier on Sunday, Trump’s newly-minted US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo visited Israel on his first foreign trip. While speaking alongside Netanyahu during a joint press conference, the former CIA director said that Trump remained committed to exiting the landmark accord if changes weren’t made and said that Iranian aggression against Israel — by trying to establish a military presence in Syria — was exacerbating American concerns. (Worthy News) – Missile strikes overnight in central Syria killed at least 26 pro-regime fighters, most of them Iranians, a monitor said Monday.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the missiles struck a military base in the province of Hama late Sunday, in an assault it said bore the hallmarks of an Israeli operation.

(Worthy News) – The Syrian army said on Sunday that rockets had struck several military bases in the Hama and Aleppo countryside in what it said was new “aggression” by its enemies, state television said.

In a news flash, state television said the missile attacks took place at 10:30 p.m. (2030 GMT)
