Israel’s Netanyahu Zigzags, Puts African Migrant Deal With UNHCR on Hold

(Worthy News) – Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Monday he was putting on hold an agreement with the UN refugee agency to relocate thousands of African migrants to Western countries.

Hours after announcing the deal, which was opposed by right-wingers as it would give thousands of migrants the right to stay in the country, Netanyahu posted a message on his Facebook page saying he was putting it on hold until further review.

According to the agreement, about 16,000 of 37,000 African migrants who entered the country illegally would be relocated to Western nations while others would be allowed to stay in Israel. [ Source: Algemeiner (Read More…) ]

Judge’s death gives Trump the opportunity to overhaul the liberal 9th Circuit

Judge’s death gives Trump the opportunity to overhaul the liberal 9th Circuit

(Worthy News) – The death this week of 9th Circuit Court of Appeals Judge Stephen Reinhardt gives President Trump the opportunity to boost the number of Republican-appointed judges on the famously liberal-leaning court, with seven seats now open.

But legal experts say filling all of those vacancies could be a stretch because of partisan wrangling in the Senate.

Of the 22 active judges on the bench — the court is authorized to have 29 judgeships — 16 were nominated by Democratic presidents, and six were nominated by Republicans. [ Source: Washington Examiner (Read More…) ]

Crew remotely lands jet on carrier using ATARI joystick

(Worthy News) – In a crowning achievement for veteran gamers and tech nerds everywhere, Navy crew members remotely landed a 40,000-pound jet on the flight deck of an aircraft carrier using an ATARI joystick — no, not that kind, but close.

The ATARI, or aircraft terminal approach remote inceptor, was successfully demonstrated for the first time ever last week aboard the carrier Abraham Lincoln when crew members used the video game-like system to control an F/A-18 during a touch-and-go, a Navy release said. 44 Dems, Including Wasserman Schultz, Exempted Pakistani IT Aides From Background Checks

44 Dems, Including Wasserman Schultz, Exempted Pakistani IT Aides From Background Checks

(Worthy News) – Every one of the 44 House Democrats who hired Pakistan-born IT aides who later allegedly made “unauthorized access” to congressional data appears to have chosen to exempt them from background checks, according to congressional documents.

All of them appear to have waived background checks on Imran Awan and his family members, even though the family of server administrators could collectively read all the emails and files of 1 in 5 House Democrats, and despite background checks being recommended for such positions, according to an inspector general’s report. The House security policy requires offices to fill out a form attesting that they’ve initiated background checks, but it also includes a loophole allowing them to simply say that another member vouched for them.

Among the red flags in Abid’s background were a $1.1 million bankruptcy; six lawsuits against him or a company he owned; and at least three misdemeanor convictions including for DUI and driving on a suspended license, according to Virginia court records. Public court records show that Imran and Abid operated a car dealership referred to as CIA that took $100,000 from an Iraqi government official who is a fugitive from U.S. authorities. Numerous members of the family were tied to cryptic LLCs such as New Dawn 2001, operated out of Imran’s residence, Virginia corporation records show. Imran was the subject of repeated calls to police by multiple women and had multiple misdemeanor convictions for driving offenses, according to court records. [ Source: Daily Caller (Read More…) ]

Prison Fellowship Lauds Trump for Helping Americans With Criminal Records Reach Their God-Given Potential

Prison Fellowship Lauds Trump for Helping Americans With Criminal Records Reach Their God-Given Potential

(Worthy News) – Christian ministry Prison Fellowship has praised President Donald Trump for designating April 2018 “Second Chance Month.” A little more than a week ago, the group’s CEO had expressed concerns over Trump’s plan to impose the death penalty on drug traffickers when it is appropriate to do so under current law.

James Ackerman, President and Chief Executive Officer of the ministry, which serves prisoners, former prisoners and their families, called it a “bold move,” saying it will help Prison Fellowship and more than 135 organizations “fight for those who have paid their debt to society.”

“The President is right to stand up for those who continue to face tens of thousands of barriers to education, jobs, housing and the things they need to lead a full and productive life,” he said in a statement. “We are fighting for those 65 million Americans with criminal records—one in four adults—who wish to regain their dignity and make important contributions to society.” [ Source: Christian Post (Read More…) ]

Trump administration sues California over federal land sales

Trump administration sues California over federal land sales

(Worthy News) – The Justice Department has filed a lawsuit against California over a state law giving it the power to override the sale of federal lands, the department announced Monday.

The suit marks the latest battle between President Trump and the nation’s most populous state, where Democrats have tried aggressively to thwart the president’s agenda. Last month, Sessions visited Sacramento to announce he was suing California over laws that restrict cooperation with federal immigration authorities.

Under the law, which was passed in September, California has the first right to purchase federal lands or to arrange for a specific buyer. Lawmakers had expressed concerns that the Trump administration would allow more logging, oil drilling or development. [ Source: Fox News (Read More…) ]

Turkey’s Churches, Famous for Historic Schism, Finally Agree on Doctrine

(Worthy News) – A joint commission of Turkey’s major Christian denominations has published a historic book of concise Christian doctrine, receiving the unprecedented endorsement of all the nation’s Orthodox, Catholic, Armenian, Syriac, and Protestant churches.

According to Armenian Bishop Sahak Masalyan, keynote speaker at the formal book launch in Istanbul of the English edition in February, the “most spectacular aspect” of the book is in fact its first page of endorsements, which he declared “akin to a miracle.”

This book “expresses the shared beliefs of the churches in Turkey. We approve its publication and recommend that it be widely read,” the statement says. [ Source (Read More…) ]
