(Worthy News) – US President Donald Trump has signed a presidential memorandum to end “catch and release” practice whereby illegal immigrants are released into the United States shortly after their apprehension.

In his presidential memorandum, Trump has also asked the Defence Secretary to produce a list of military facilities which could be used to detain illegal immigrants.

(Worthy News) – Lawmakers are poised this month to wage a major battle over the House version of the Farm Bill, which will call for work requirements in the federal food stamp program that serves the poor.

The heated partisan fight has stalled the legislation before it has even been introduced.

The normally routine sign-off on the bill by House Agriculture Committee Chairman Mike Conaway, R-Texas, and ranking member Collin Peterson, D-Minn., hasn’t happened because Democrats are staunchly opposed to Conaway’s plan to add a 20-hour work or job training requirement for some able-bodied recipients of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, the formal name for the food stamp program. (Worthy News) – The economy created 103,000 new payroll jobs in March and the unemployment rate held steady at 4.1 percent, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Friday morning.

Job growth fell shy of forecasters’ expectations for about 175,000 new jobs.

The March slowdown in payroll growth, though, is likely attributable in part to winter weather, particularly in the northeast, slowing down commerce. (Worthy News) – People are surging to sign up for training to carry concealed weapons in the wake of the Parkland school shooting, as analysts say sustained media coverage and calls for more gun control encourage people to look for ways to protect themselves.

Gun sales also appear to be on the rise, based on federal background checks.

The National Carry Academy in Minnesota says the number of people in its concealed carry courses has increased more than 200 percent since the Valentine’s Day shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Florida. (Worthy News) – For days, agitated Israeli officials warned of an imminent “ecological disaster” in anticipation of Friday’s massive protest at the border with the Gaza Strip, where Hamas, the ruling Palestinian Islamist militia, readied tens of thousands of tires to be set on fire.

The Israeli army equipped teams with particle gauges and Maj. Gen. Yoav Mordechai, coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories—the Israeli army’s branch that oversees all contact with Gaza—wrote a letter to the World Health Organization cautioning that “the burning of tires in such a huge quantity will cause severe damage to the ecosystem in the area, will severely harm the life, the flora and health of the residents, and will add to the severe damage to the aquifer and lead to unprecedented air pollution.”

As it turned out, wind patterns ensured that any pollution resulting from today’s rally, the second consecutive demonstration out of six that are planned, blew back over Gaza, one of the most beleaguered places on earth, a tiny strip of land locked between Israel, Egypt and the Mediterranean Sea, in which almost two million Palestinians reside. (Worthy News) – The United States for a second week in a row blocked a UN Security Council statement supporting the right of Palestinians to “demonstrate peacefully” and endorsing Secretary-General Antonio Guterres’ call for an independent investigation into deadly protests in Gaza.

Palestinian UN Ambassador Riyad Mansour told reporters at UN headquarters in New York on Friday evening that 14 of the 15 council nations agreed to the statement, but the United States, Israel’s closest ally, objected.

(Worthy News) – A Hamas spokesman said Friday’s protests along the Gaza-Israel border were a signal to the world that Palestinians have started a revolution to “pave the way to freedom.”

“The March for Return has sent a message that made a decision to start the revolution and pave the way for our freedom,” Fawzy Barhoum tweeted.

(Worthy News) – Israeli planes carried out airstrikes in the northern Gaza Strip early Monday morning, the army said, hours after a group of Palestinians entered Israeli territory from the enclave and planted two improvised explosive devices along the Gaza security fence.

The strikes targeted a military base belonging to the Hamas terrorist group, which controls the Gaza Strip, the army said.

“The Israel Defense Forces sees with severity any attempt to harm or destroy the security and defense infrastructure and will not allow the border area to become a combat zone,” the army said in a statement, echoing a similar statement released on Sunday night announcing that soldiers found two bombs, which appeared to be rigged out of plastic drinking bottles full of an explosive liquid with a detonator.
