IDF probes video of troops cheering as sniper shoots Palestinian near Gaza fence

(Worthy News) – The Israeli military said it was investigating a video that surfaced on Monday that appears to show IDF sharpshooters cheering as one of them shoots and fells a Palestinian who approached the Gaza security fence.

The video, which was widely shared on the WhatsApp messaging application, was apparently filmed through a scope or binoculars.

The soldiers can be heard discussing the shot ahead of time, as the sniper trains his rifle on the suspect, who is seen standing next to another Palestinian crouching in front of a roll of barbed wire several meters away from the security fence. [ Source: Times of Israel (Read More…) ]

Trump seethes over FBI raid, ponders firing those he blames

(Worthy News) – President Donald Trump was so incensed by the FBI’s raid of his personal attorney’s office and hotel room that he’s privately pondered firing Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein and publicly mused about ousting special counsel Robert Mueller.

The raid, in which agents seized attorney Michael Cohen’s records on topics including a $130,000 payment to a porn actress who alleges she had sex with Trump, left the president more angry than advisers had seen him in weeks, according to five people familiar with the president’s views but not authorized to discuss them publicly.

Trump tweeted Tuesday that “Attorney-client privilege is dead!” Nervous White House aides expressed new fears about the president’s unpredictability in the face of the Cohen raid, which he viewed as an assault on a longtime defender and a sign that Mueller’s probe into potential ties between Russia and the Trump campaign was “going too far.” [ Source: Fox News (Read More…) ]

Key moments from Mark Zuckerberg’s Senate testimony

Key moments from Mark Zuckerberg’s Senate testimony

(Worthy News) – Mark Zuckerberg, the co-founder, chairman and CEO of Facebook, appeared before lawmakers for the first time on Tuesday to answer questions about how his social networking juggernaut handles its 2.2 billion users’ private data, as well as the role the company played in Russia’s meddling in the 2016 election.

The 33-year-old tech titan faced an onslaught of 44 senators from the chamber’s Judiciary and Commerce committees — all eager to maximize their allotted five minutes for grilling the witness.

Zuckerberg had at least a few friendly faces stationed outside on the Capitol lawn — but they were all his own. A 100-strong infantry of life-sized cutouts bearing the Facebook chief’s likeness were stationed there as part of an activist campaign to halt the spread of misinformation on social media. Senate ready to change the rules to speed up Trump nominees

Senate ready to change the rules to speed up Trump nominees

(Worthy News) – Senate Republicans, frustrated by delaying tactics imposed by Democrats on President Trump’s judicial and executive branch nominees, are on the verge of altering the Senate rules in order to speed up the process.

GOP lawmakers told the Washington Examiner Tuesday that momentum is building for a change in the Senate rules that would shorten the time frame allowed for lawmakers to debate each nominee.

One proposal by Sen. James Lankford, R-Okla., would reinstate a temporary rules change made by Democrats in 2013 that reduced debate time from 30 hours to eight hours for most executive branch nominations and from 30 hours to two hours for lower judicial branch nominations. Egyptian military court sentences 36 to death over bombing three churches, police checkpoint

(Worthy News) – An Egyptian military court sentenced on Tuesday 36 defendants accused of bombing three churches and a police checkpoint. The court referred the ruling to Egypt’s Grand Mufti Shawki Allam for approval, a step required by law, though his opinion is non-binding.

The three churches were St George Church in Tanta, St Mark Coptic Cathedral in Alexandria, Botroseya Church in Cairo, and the attack on the police checkpoint was in the New Valley. The case includes 48 defendants, among them 31 who are imprisoned, while 17 others are fugitives.

The accusations include leading and joining an illegal group with the purpose of endangering societal peace, plotting to sabotage the constitution and the law, and launching attacks that led to the killing of police officers and civilians in these four attacks. ‘Multitude’ of Egyptians Coming to Christ Despite Persecution from Muslim Extremists, Reveal Church Leaders

‘Multitude’ of Egyptians Coming to Christ Despite Persecution from Muslim Extremists, Reveal Church Leaders

(Worthy News) – Despite continued persecution from Muslim extremists, Christians in Egypt remain unwavering in their faith, compelling a “multitude” to come to Christ, church leaders have revealed.

The Rev. Sameh Hanna, associate pastor at the Evangelical Church in Cairo, told Premier on Monday that the “mood is very, very good amongst Christians who are living in Egypt.”

“Not because the situation is good or bad – that is not the reason,” he explained. “We have two kinds of news – earthly news, which is very ugly, very discouraging and I think in the West, you get only the earthly news – a bombing here or there.”

“But there is heavenly news. We know what is going on spiritually. We see things that not everybody is seeing. We see things you are not hearing. We see the multitude coming to the knowledge of Christ from every background, so this brings joy to us.” [ Source: Gospel Herald (Read More…) ]

Only 47 Percent of Americans Identify as Protestant, Atheism Growing: Gallup

(Worthy News) – Church attendance by Roman Catholics in the United States has hit a new low, according to a study released on Monday by Gallup, while Protestants are seeing a big drop in their demographic.

The study data found that young people make up much of the decline. While 73 percent of those aged 21-29 attended church on a weekly basis in 1955, that number was down to 25 percent in 2017.

The percentage of Americans identifying as Protestants, however, offered a different story. That number was as high as 71 percent of the country back in 1955, and down in 2017 to 47 percent. [ Source: Christian Post (Read More…) ]
