Media black out pro-life walkout after pushing anti-gun protests: Study

(Worthy News) – The media appear more than willing to cover student walkouts — unless, of course, the students are protesting abortion.

The major television networks — ABC, CBS and NBC — did not mention Wednesday’s pro-life student walkout in their nightly news shows, according to the Media Research Center.

Last month, those networks’ news programs gave more than 10 minutes of airtime to the anti-gun walkout on the one-month anniversary of the Parkland, Florida, school shooting. [ Source: Washington Times (Read More…) ]

‘We Never Fear Bombs or Death’: Church in Egypt Grows Despite Jihadist Threats

(Worthy News) – It was a year ago this week that twin suicide bombings struck two churches in Egypt killing 45 people.

On April 9, 2017, ISIS militants detonated the first bomb inside St. George’s Church in the northern city of Tanta while worshippers were celebrating Palm Sunday. A few hours later, a second bomb hit Saint Mark’s Cathedral in Alexandria. More than 125 people were injured in both attacks.

A year on, Egypt’s Coptic Christians know the threats against them are still very real.

The Islamic State, also known as ISIS, claimed responsibility for both attacks. Despite the risks, Stephanous says the church in Egypt continues to grow. [ Source: CBN News (Read More…) ]

Trump orders an evaluation of the Postal Service following his criticism of Amazon

Trump orders an evaluation of the Postal Service following his criticism of Amazon

(Worthy News) – President Donald Trump on Thursday issued an executive order to set up a task force to study the United States Postal Service and recommend reforms.

That development may represent an escalation in Trump’s attacks on Amazon for its dealings with the service, analysts said. The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment sent outside regular office hours.

The task force will evaluate the operations and finances of the USPS, the order said. That includes examining the postal service’s role in competitive markets, the state of its business model, workforce, operations, costs and pricing. The task force was ordered to look at the decline in mail volume and how that affects the USPS’ self-financing and the agency’s monopoly over letter delivery and mailboxes. (Worthy News) – A campaign by Arab states to block Israel’s bid for a Security Council seat has gained support weeks ahead of a scheduled UN vote, the Palestinian Authority foreign minister said Thursday.

“We are doing everything possible to convince as many countries as possible to block the vote on Israel’s bid for a seat at the Security Council,” Riyad al-Maliki told reporters in Riyadh ahead of the Arab Summit this weekend.

“We need to secure the one-third vote necessary for a veto, and we believe we can, as Arab and Islamic states,” the minister added. [ Source: Times of Israel (Read More…) ]

Palestinians prepare to burn Israeli flags on third weekend of protests

Palestinians prepare to burn Israeli flags on third weekend of protests

(Worthy News) – The hashtags #RaisingFlag, referring to the Palestinian flag, and #BurningFlag, referring to the Israeli flag, have been prevalent in recent days among Palestinians on social media as they prepare for protests Friday near the Gaza border fence. Mass burning of Israeli flags is planned for Friday as the “Great March of Return” enters its third weekend.

One such demonstration was already observed by IDF soldiers who were closely following developments in the Gaza Strip on Thursday. Ahmed Abu Ratima, a spokesman for the “Great March of Return,” which began on March 30th and will reach its peak on May 15th, said the Palestinian public in the Gaza Strip is preparing for a third protest, titled, “Raising the Palestinian flag and burning the flag of the occupation.”

“During the processions, there will be a massive presence of local and international media that have placed the processions for the peace of the Gaza Strip at the top of their priorities,” Abu Ratima said, calling on the public, including through Hamas-affiliated media, to maintain non-violent marches and not to divert from the track they set out on. “The processions will continue until the goal is achieved— the right of return under UN Resolution 194 and the breaking of the Israeli siege on the Gaza Strip,” he told Hamas daily Al-Risala. Inspectors head to site of suspected gas attack in Syria

Inspectors head to site of suspected gas attack in Syria

(Worthy News) – A team of inspectors from the international chemical weapons watchdog was on its way to Syria on Thursday to begin an investigation into a suspected chemical weapons attack near the capital that has brought the war-torn country to the brink of a wider conflict, amid Western threats of retaliation and Russian warnings of the potential for “a dangerous escalation.”

The fact-finding mission from the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons was expected to head to Douma, where the suspected attack took place and where Russia said rebels had now capitulated to government control. The Syrian government said it would facilitate the mission’s investigation, which was to begin Saturday.

Syria and its ally, Russia, deny any such attack, which activists say killed more than 43 people last weekend. [ Source: Times of Israel (Read More…) ]
