Biggest task force since Iraq on course for Syria

(Worthy News) – An armada of 12 warships — the largest US strike force since the 2003 Iraq war – is steaming toward the Middle East as President Trump mulls an attack on Syria in retaliation for a chemical weapons attack on civilians, according to a report.

The aircraft carrier USS Harry S Truman set sail from Norfolk, Va., on Wednesday with five escort warships and they were expected to join four destroyers and two nuclear-powered subs believed to already be in or near the Mediterranean, the Times of London reported. [ Source: NY Post (Read More…) ]

Hezbollah threatens possibility of ‘direct fight’ between Israel and Iran

(Worthy News) – Hezbollah Secretary-General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah pointed on Friday to an Israeli air strike against a Syrian air base that killed some Iranian Revolutionary Guards, saying it opened the prospect of conflict between the two enemy states.

Israel has struck targets in Syria numerous times in recent years, sometimes to prevent Iranian weapons transfers to Hezbollah, which it sees as the biggest threat on its borders. Iran and Hezbollah are two of Assad’s chief allies.

IDF: Gazans hurl explosives, firebombs, burn Israeli flags, try to damage fence

(Worthy News) – Palestinian protesters in Gaza on Friday hurled an explosive device and firebombs at Israeli troops deployed at the border, during what the Israel Defense Forces described as “several attempts” to damage the fence between Israel and the Gaza Strip and cross over into Israeli territory.

The Hamas-run health ministry said a 28-year old man had been shot and killed and more than 100 others injured by live fire.

Some 10,000-15,000 Palestinians were taking part in violent riots in five locations along the length of the border, the army said. In addition to trying to breach and cross the barrier, they carried out a number of attacks, including throwing Molotov cocktails and explosives at Israeli soldiers. Syria, Russia say over 100 missiles fired, many intercepted

(Worthy News) – The US and its allies fired more than 100 cruise missiles at Syria, a significant number of which were intercepted by Syrian air defenses, Russia and Syria said Saturday.

“More than 100 cruise missiles and air-to-land missiles were fired by the US, Britain and France from the sea and air at Syrian military and civilian targets,” the Russian defense ministry said in a statement quoted by RIA Novosti news agency, adding that “a significant number” were shot down by Syrian air defenses.

The US denied any of the missiles had been shot down and Syria is not known to have the capabilities to intercept missiles. [ Source: Times of Israel (Read More…) ]

lG Report: Andrew McCabe Repeatedly Leaked And Lied About It

lG Report: Andrew McCabe Repeatedly Leaked And Lied About It

(Worthy News) – A newly released report from the Office of the Inspector General at the Justice Department states that former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe repeatedly leaked information to the press and lied about it.

McCabe, who was fired a day short of being eligible to receive his full pension, has loudly complained that his dismissal was unwarranted and politically motivated. But findings fleshed out in the OIG report fly in the face of McCabe’s narrative.

The report states that McCabe authorized another FBI agent to leak information about an ongoing investigation into Clinton Foundation to The Wall Street Journal, not in the interest of the public, but for his own personal gain. [ Source: The Federalist (Read More…) ]

Allies hit three facilities to degrade Syria’s chemical weapons program

Allies hit three facilities to degrade Syria’s chemical weapons program

(Worthy News) – The Defense Department said Friday night that U.S., British and French forces struck three Syrian facilities that officials believe play a key role in Syria’s ability to research, produce and store chemical weapons.

Defense Secretary Jim Mattis called it a “heavy strike” that was broader than the attack President Trump ordered one year ago that targeted an airfield. Friday night’s strike aimed at the “long-term degradation” of Syria’s chemical weapons capabilities.

The allied strike, with included manned U.S. aircraft, last about an hour and prompted the Syrian regime to retaliate by shooting surface-to-air missiles, said Gen. Joseph Dunford, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. [ Source: Washington Examiner (Read More…) ]

Russia vows ‘consequences’ for Syria strike

Russia vows ‘consequences’ for Syria strike

(Worthy News) – Russia warned late Friday there would be “consequences” for President Trump’s decision to proceed with airstrikes against Syrian President Bashar Assad’s chemical weapons facilities, according to Moscow’s representative to the U.S.

“We warned that such actions will not be left without consequences,” said Anatoly Antonov, the Russian ambassador to the U.S. “All responsibility for them rests with Washington, London and Paris.”

Russian officials intimated repeatedly over the last several days that a western strike against Assad might provoke a retaliatory action from Russia. But the U.S., France, and the United Kingdom nonetheless took aim at three facilities involved in Assad’s chemical weapons program, a selection of targets chosen in part to mitigate the risk that Russian forces — deployed to Syria in support of Assad — would take casualties that might oblige Russian President Vladimir Putin to escalate the clash.
