Trump, Macron to face differences on Iran, trade, as French visit begins

(Worthy News) – U.S. President Donald Trump welcomes French President Emmanuel Macron to the White House on Monday to kick off a three-day state visit expected to be dominated by U.S.-European differences on the Iran nuclear deal and trade.

It will be Trump’s first hosting of a state visit since he took power in January 2017. The pair will get a sense of their two countries’ shared history during an evening meal on Monday night at Mount Vernon, the home of George Washington, the first U.S. president and Revolutionary War commander whose alliance with France was critical to victory over the British.

The major work between them will be done on Tuesday during White House meetings and a joint news conference. [ Source: Reuters (Read More…) ]

Iranians Hit By ‘Perfect Currency Storm’

Iranians Hit By ‘Perfect Currency Storm’

(Worthy News) – Every day, hundreds head to Tehran’s bustling Ferdowsi street to buy foreign currency, only to find that many exchange offices have shut up shop, have turned off their currency-rate displays, or have signs up reading, “We don’t have U.S. dollars to sell.”

A nationwide dollar-buying panic is in full swing, spurred by the plunging value of the Iranian rial, a sluggish economy, and fears that the United States will reimpose crippling sanctions on the Islamic republic.

With the rial hitting all-time lows, the government has imposed an official exchange rate of 42,000 rials against the dollar, set a cap on the amount of foreign currency that citizens can hold outside banks, and sent police to patrol exchange shops to ensure that no under-the-table currency trading is going on. Russia sanctions not on G7 agenda: report

Russia sanctions not on G7 agenda: report

(Worthy News) – When foreign ministers from the Group of Seven (G7) meet in Toronto on Sunday, new sanctions against Russia will not be a topic of discussion.

Instead, the group — made up of the U.S., Canada, Germany, Britain, France, Italy and Japan — will focus on ways to keep pressure on Moscow, as well as Iran’s activities in the Middle East and North Korea’s nuclear program, Reuters reported on Sunday.

The meeting came days after the G7 condemned the poisoning of a former Russian spy and his daughter on British soil with a military-grade nerve agent. Officials in several countries have blamed the attack on Russia — a charge that Moscow has denied. [ Source: The Hill (Read More…) ]

One Step Closer to Law: Could a California Bill Ultimately Lead to the Banning of Bibles?

One Step Closer to Law: Could a California Bill Ultimately Lead to the Banning of Bibles?

(Worthy News) – A pro-LGBTQ bill is quickly making its way through the California state assembly after it was approved on the floor Thursday. The bill now goes to the state Senate for a vote.

If passed, Assembly Bill 2943 could ultimately threaten free speech and freedom of religion for Christians.

It uses the state’s consumer fraud statute to restrict religious freedom and free speech when it comes to issues of homosexuality and gender identity.

This means the bill would make it illegal to distribute resources, sell books, offer counseling services, or direct someone to a biblically based model for getting help with gender confusion and homosexuality. [ Source: CBN News (Read More…) ]

‘Being LGBTQ is not an illness’: Record number of states banning conversion therapy

(Worthy News) – A record number of jurisdictions this year are taking aim at conversion therapy for minors: an attempt to change someone’s sexual orientation or gender identity through tactics as obvious as hypnosis or as subtle as inducing shame.

Almost 50 bills have been introduced in 24 states targeting conversion therapy, which has been discredited by dozens of medical associations and child-welfare institutions. On Tuesday, 11 of them — including the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Counseling Association — released a letter urging states to make such bills a priority. Iran threatens to ‘vigorously’ resume enrichment if US quits nuclear deal

(Worthy News) – Iran is ready to ‘vigorously’ resume nuclear enrichment if the United States ditches the 2015 nuclear deal, and further ‘drastic measures’ are being considered in response to a US exit, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif warned Saturday.

Zarif told reporters in New York that Iran is not seeking to acquire a nuclear bomb, but that Tehran’s “probable” response to a US withdrawal would be to restart production of enriched uranium – a key bomb-making ingredient.

“America never should have feared Iran producing a nuclear bomb, but we will pursue vigorously our nuclear enrichment,” Zarif said. [ Source: Times of Israel (Read More…) ]
