WH Cites Progress in 30-Day Tariff Negotiation Extension with EU, Canada, Mexico

(Worthy News) – The White House said Tuesday that the administration is extending tariff negotiations with the European Union, Mexico, and Canada for 30 days because it has seen some progress.

President Donald Trump issued two proclamations on Monday modifying the Section 323 tariffs on steel and aluminum. The administration reached a final agreement with South Korea on steel imports. It also reached agreements with Argentina, Australia, and Brazil on steel and aluminum tariffs, and the details are expected to be finalized soon. The proclamation also extended tariff negotiations with the EU, Mexico, and Canada for 30 days.

“In all of these negotiations, the Administration is focused on quotas that will restrain imports, prevent transshipment, and protect the national security. 5.2-magnitude earthquake rattles southern Iran

(Worthy News) – Iran’s state TV is reporting a 5.2-magnitude earthquake in a remote, mountainous region in the country’s south, with no immediate word on casualties or damage.

It says the temblor rocked the town of Sisakht, some 700 kilometers (430 miles) south of Tehran, on Wednesday. The town has a population of 10,000.

Iran is prone to near-daily earthquakes as it sits on major fault lines. In November, a 7.2-magnitude quake hit western Iran, killing more than 600. In 2003, a 6.6 magnitude quake flattened the historic city of Bam, killing 26,000 people. [ Source: Fox News (Read More…) ]

(Worthy News) – Armenian protesters blocked some routes into the capital, Yerevan, and a road to the airport on Wednesday after Nikol Pashinyan, blocked in parliament from becoming prime minister, announced a nationwide campaign of civil disobedience.

Days of protests in the small ex-Soviet state have created a standoff between Pashinyan’s supporters, who have mobilized thousands of people to take to the streets, and a ruling elite which is determined to hold on to power and still controls the security apparatus.

The ruling Republican Party thwarted Pashinyan’s bid to take over as prime minister on Tuesday. [ Source: Reuters (Read More…) ]

Discovery of Ancient Israelite City Supports Biblical Account of King David

(Worthy News) – A new archaeological discovery is helping to confirm the biblical record that presents King David as an historical figure in ancient Israel.

Some archaeologists and experts have doubted the biblical account because they have not been able to find any evidence of civilization dating back to the time when David is supposed to have ruled, according to the Bible: “no fortifications, public works or signs of statehood.”

“Until 25 years ago no one doubted that King David was a historical figure,” adds Professor Avraham Faust, director of the archaeological dig. “In the last 25 years or so, however, David’s historicity, and especially the size of his kingdom, are hotly debated“. Congress Seeks Showdown On Ending U.S. Aid to Palestinians

(Worthy News) – A delegation of leading Republican members of Congress are urging newly installed Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to cut all U.S. taxpayer funding to the Palestinian government over its continued use of American dollars to pay the salaries of terrorists and their families, according to communications between these lawmakers and the State Department.

A group of 14 lawmakers formally petitioned Pompeo this week to “immediately suspend all aid payments to the Palestinian Authority” due to recent reports these funds continue to be used to pay convicted terrorists and their families, a material breach of newly passed laws barring American aid money being used for such purposes.

The lawmakers seek a public showdown with the Trump administration over the future of U.S. aid to the Palestinian government, which has publicly refused to comply with new U.S. laws mandating the terror payment program known as “pay to slay” be stopped. Mueller told Trump legal team a presidential subpoena could be possible, ex-attorney says

(Worthy News) – Special counsel Robert Mueller told President Trump’s legal team that he could subpoena the president to appear before a grand jury if Trump refuses an interview with Mueller’s team, Trump’s former lead attorney told The Associated Press Tuesday night.

John Dowd told the AP that Mueller raised the possibility of a subpoena during a meeting with Trump’s legal team in March. According to accounts of the meeting first reported by The Washington Post and confirmed by Fox News, Dowd retorted: “This isn’t some game. You are screwing with the work of the president of the United States.”

Dowd resigned as Trump’s lead lawyer weeks later amid a dispute over how to answer Mueller’s request for a presidential interview. [ Source: Fox News (Read More…) ]
