Russia Starts Advanced Construction on New Iranian Nuke Plant

(Worthy News) – Russia has begun advanced construction on a new Iranian nuclear plant that could provide Tehran with a second, plutonium-based pathway to a nuclear weapon, according to regional reports that have rattled U.S. officials in the wake of a major disclosure showing Iran lied about its past efforts to construct nuclear warheads.

Russia’s state-controlled nuclear agency Rosatom announced that it has begun phase-two construction on Iran’s Bushehr nuclear power plant in Southern Iran, just one of several new nuclear sites that are being constructed under a multibillion-dollar agreement between the two countries.

Construction on the nuclear site kicked off just days after the Israeli government disclosed a cache of some 100,000 secret Iranian documents showing the regime lied about its past efforts to construct at least five nuclear warheads. This nuclear work was later archived and codified by Tehran so that it could continue such work secretly despite the enforcement of the landmark nuclear deal. Federal judge accuses Mueller’s team of lying, trying to target Trump: ‘C’mon man!’

(Worthy News) – A federal judge on Friday harshly rebuked Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s team during a hearing for ex-Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort – suggesting they lied about the scope of the investigation, are seeking “unfettered power” and are more interested in bringing down the president.

“You don’t really care about Mr. Manafort,” U.S. District Judge T.S. Ellis III told Mueller’s team. “You really care about what information Mr. Manafort can give you to lead you to Mr. Trump and an impeachment, or whatever.”

Further, Ellis demanded to see the unredacted “scope memo,” a document outlining the scope of the special counsel’s Russia probe that congressional Republicans have also sought. [ Source: Fox News (Read More…) ]

Pentagon: ‘NYT Story Is False,’ Trump Has Not Asked for Plan to Reduce Troop Numbers in South Korea

(Worthy News) – The Pentagon released a statement on Friday that called a New York Times story, which reported President Donald Trump is considering reducing the number of U.S. forces in South Korea, false.

The New York Times reported Friday that Trump requested plans from the Defense Department on reducing U.S. troop numbers in South Korea.

“The NYT story is false. The President has not asked the Pentagon to provide options for reducing American forces stationed in South Korea. The Department of Defense’s mission in South Korea remains the same, and our force posture has not changed,” the statement reads. [ Source: Washington Free Beacon (Read More…) ]

Defense officials warn of impending Iranian missile strike on northern Israel

(Worthy News) – Iran is planning to retaliate for recent deadly airstrikes in Syria attributed to the Jewish state by having its proxies fire missiles at military targets in northern Israel sometime in the near future, defense officials warned on Sunday.

Tehran vowed revenge after the T-4 army base in Syria was struck in an air raid on April 9, killing at least seven members of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps. The strike was widely attributed to Israel, though Jerusalem refused to comment on it. (T-4 was the base from which Israel said Iran launched an attack drone into Israel in February.) Late last month, a second strike, allegedly conducted by Israel, against an Iranian-controlled base in northern Syria was said to have killed more than two dozen Iranian soldiers.

On Sunday, all of Israel’s nightly news broadcasts reported that the Israeli military and intelligence services had identified preliminary efforts by Iran in Syria to carry out its reprisal, using its IRGC (Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps), the Hezbollah terrorist group and local Shiite militias to launch a barrage of precision-guided missiles, likely at Israeli military targets in the north. U.S. job growth picks up, unemployment rate falls to 3.9 percent

(Worthy News) – U.S. job growth increased less than expected in April and the unemployment rate dropped to near a 17-1/2-year low of 3.9 percent as some out-of-work Americans left the labor force.

The Labor Department’s closely watched employment report on Friday also showed wages barely rose last month, which may ease concerns that inflation pressures are rapidly building up, likely keeping the Federal Reserve on a gradual path of monetary policy tightening.

“Fed officials can rest easy that there is not any wage-based inflation on the horizon,” said Chris Rupkey, chief economist at MUFG in New York. “There is no need to speed up the path of interest rates because inflation isn’t heating up in a worrisome manner.” [ Source: Reuters (Read More…) ]

Navy to resurrect fleet to protect the East Coast and North Atlantic from Russia

(Worthy News) – The U.S. Navy has reactivated a fleet responsible for overseeing the East Coast and North Atlantic – an escalation of the Pentagon’s focus on a resurgent Russia and its expanding military presence.

2nd Fleet, deactivated in 2011 to preserve funds for new ships, will resume operations in Norfolk, Virginia, on July 1, Chief of Naval Operations Adm. John Richardson told reporters Friday.

“This is a dynamic response to the dynamic security environment,” Richardson said onboard the carrier George H.W. Bush. “So as we’ve seen this great power competition emerge, the Atlantic Ocean is as dynamic a theater as any and particular the North Atlantic, so as we consider high-end naval warfare, fighting in the Atlantic, that will be the 2nd Fleet’s responsibility.” [ Source: Washington Post (Read More…) ]

John Kerry under fire for reported ‘shadow diplomacy’ to save Iran deal

(Worthy News) – Former Secretary of State John Kerry is under fire over a report claiming that he has been engaged in ‘shadow diplomacy’ with officials from Iran and Europe as part of a final attempt to save the seemingly doomed 2015 Iran nuclear deal.

The Boston Globe reported Friday that Kerry sat down twice with Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif in recent months to strategize in a bid to save the deal, as part of what the Globe described as “an aggressive yet stealthy” mission to put pressure on the Trump administration to keep the deal in some form.

Trump faces a May 12 deadline to review the deal, and Kerry has been ramping up his meetings ahead of that deadline. He reportedly met with German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier — who was foreign minister of Germany when the deal was negotiated. He has also met with French President Emmanuel Macron twice and spoken by phone with European Union foreign affairs chief Federica Mogherini. [ Source: Fox News (Read More…) ]

Facebook accused of introducing extremists to one another through ‘suggested friends’ feature

(Worthy News) – Facebook has helped introduce thousands of Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (Isil) extremists to one another, via its ‘suggested friends’ feature, it can be revealed.

The social media giant – which is already under fire for failing to remove terrorist material from its platform – is now accused of actively connecting jihadists around the world, allowing them to develop fresh terror networks and even recruit new members to their cause.

Researchers, who analysed the Facebook activities of a thousand Isil supporters in 96 countries, discovered users with radical Islamist sympathies were routinely introduced to one another through the popular ‘suggested friends’ feature. [ Source: UK Telegraph (Read More…) ]

Russia eyes closer Iran ties, more trade if Trump nixes nuclear deal

(Worthy News) – A top Russian official said bilateral relations and trade with Iran could actually be enhanced if President Trump follows through on a threat to take the United States out of the 2015 nuclear deal with Tehran next week.

Vladimir Yermakov, head of arms control and nonproliferation for the Russian Foreign Ministry, told reporters Friday that a U.S. withdrawal would not kill the deal, which Iran signed with the Obama administration and five international powers — Russia, China, Britain, France and Germany.

The European allies have lobbied heavily for Mr. Trump not to withdraw from the deal, fearing that the reimposition of American economic and financial sanctions could cast a heavy cloud over their own business dealings with Tehran. [ Source: Washington Times (Read More…) ]
