April Sets Gun Sales Record

(Worthy News) – April 2018 saw the most gun-related checks run through the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s background check system.

The National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) ran 2,233,213 checks in April, according to an FBI document. That’s nearly 90,000 more checks than the previous April record set in 2016. It also represents the second month in a row to set a record with March seeing 2,767,699 checks.

The drop off in background checks between March and April matches the industry’s typical sales cycle where more guns are sold in winter months than in summer months. December tends to be the best month for gun sales in any given year. December 2015 holds the record for most checks in a month with 3,314,594. [ Source: Washington Free Beacon (Read More…) ]

Obama State Department Misled Congress on the Use of Taxpayer Funding to ‘Influence the Current Israeli Election’

(Worthy News) – The American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ) has just obtained new documents showing the Obama State Department misled Members of Congress about taxpayer funding going to an organization that was attempting to unseat the government of our ally Israel.

We have previously discussed our ongoing Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) case against the Department of State involving our request for public records regarding grants of U.S. funds to the organizations OneVoice Israel and OneVoice Palestine. While the United States regularly issues grants to international organizations that provide services such as humanitarian relief, educational opportunities, and even opportunities and activities aimed at encouraging democratic voter participation, it turns out the OneVoice organizations went well beyond such measures and actively campaigned against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in the 2015 elections—using resources established and developed with grant funds from the Obama State Department.

One of the important discoveries we made, through documents we received in response to our FOIA lawsuit, is that one of the senior advisers to OneVoice Palestine was none other than the son of Mahmoud Abbas, the president of the Palestinian Authority – something the Obama Administration clearly knew (since these documents were in its possession).

In short, U.S. taxpayer funds were distributed by the Obama State Department to two sister organizations with clear political goals of undermining—indeed, unseating—the sitting prime minister of a U.S. ally. [ Source: American Center of Law and Justice (ACLJ) (Read More…) ]

EU piles last-minute pressure on US over Iran nuclear deal

(Worthy News) – The EU is demanding the nuclear deal with Iran remain intact and unchanged ahead of US plans to possibly scrap the pact.

A European Commission spokesperson on Monday (7 May) told reporters in Brussels that the European Union remains committed to the full implementation of the agreement.

The EU may also remain part of the deal, regardless of US involvement, in a move that Tehran on Monday suggested could be possible. [ Source: EU Observer (Read More…) ]

Turkish Court Rules US Pastor to Remain in Jail, Stoking US-Turkish Tensions

(Worthy News) – A Turkish court ruled for the continued detention of an American pastor in the face of growing U.S. pressure for his release. Andrew Brunson faces 35 years behind bars on terrorism and espionage charges, in a case condemned by U.S. President Donald Trump.

The pastor’s jailing is becoming the focal point of wider simmering U.S.-Turkish tensions. The U.S. State Department has labeled the charges “groundless and without credible evidence.” Brunson’s ongoing detention will likely add to growing calls in Washington for sanctions against Turkey, observers said.

In the second day of the pastor’s trial Monday, a witness testifying anonymously via video link accused Brunson of helping the banned Kurdistan Workers Party, the PKK, to create a Christian Kurdish state. The PKK is a Marxist organization that has waged a decades-long insurgency for greater minority rights. [ Source: VOA News (Read More…) ]
