Saudi Arabia warns it will develop nukes if Iran does

(Worthy News) – Saudi Arabia will seek to develop its own nuclear weapons if Iran does, Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir told CNN on Wednesday, amid spiraling tension between the regional rivals.

Asked whether Riyadh would “build a bomb itself” if Tehran seizes on Washington’s withdrawal from the 2015 Iran deal to resume a nuclear weapons program, Jubeir said: “If Iran acquires nuclear capability we will do everything we can to do the same.”

Oil-rich Saudi Arabia has long said it would match any Iranian weapons development, but Jubeir’s renewed vow came after US President Donald Trump pulled the United States out of an accord designed to prevent Tehran’s path to a bomb. [ Source: Times of Israel (Read More…) ]

Liberman: Israel destroyed ‘nearly all’ Iranian military sites in Syria

(Worthy News) – Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman said Thursday morning that the IDF had destroyed “nearly all” of Iran’s military infrastructure sites in Syria overnight in response to a rocket barrage on Israel’s north, and warned Tehran that attacks on Israeli territory will be met with “the strongest possible force.”

In his first public comments following the strikes on dozens of targets that the IDF said were affiliated with Iran’s Revolutionary Guards’ al-Quds Force, Liberman said that Israel has no interest in escalating tensions but will not accept any provocation against it.

The overnight exchange was the largest-ever direct clash between the Iranian and Israeli militaries, and appeared to be the largest exchange involving Israel in Syria since the 1973 Yom Kippur War.

In all, Israel carried out dozens of raids against the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Quds Forces’ intelligence centers, weapons depots, storage facilities, observation posts, and logistics centers in Syria, as well as the rocket launcher, the IDF said. [ Source: Times of Israel (Read More…) ]

Trump says he’ll rebuild border wall in California despite Gov. Brown

(Worthy News) – President Trump said Wednesday he will push ahead with upgrading sections of the border wall in California, apparently reversing his early vow not to do any more wall construction in the state until Congress approved his full border barrier.

Mr. Trump, who has feuded with Gov. Jerry Brown over California’s sanctuary policies and resistance to the administration’s stepped-up enforcement, said he would overlook those differences and allow wall upgrades to about 28 miles of the border in the San Diego sector.

“San Diego has asked us to go forward with their section of the wall in California. And rather than not doing that and letting them lobby for us with Governor Brown, we decided to do it,” the president said at a meeting with his Cabinet. “We’ll have a little bit less of a lobby, but we’ll have a lot of people happy in San Diego.” [ Source: Washington Times (Read More…) ]

Scientists: Kilauea volcano may have explosive eruption

(Worthy News) – Geologists warned Wednesday that Hawaii’s Kilauea volcano could erupt explosively and send boulders, rocks and ash into the air around its summit in the coming weeks.

The risk will rise as lava drains from the summit crater down the flank of the volcano, and explosions could occur if the lava drops below the groundwater level, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

It has destroyed 36 structures since it began releasing lava from fissures that opened in a Big Island neighborhood about 25 miles (40.2 kilometers) east of the summit crater. There are now 15 of the vents spread through Leilani Estates and neighboring Lanipuna Gardens. [ Source: Fox News (Read More…) ]

Mattis: Trump Admin. Already Working with Allies to Prevent Iran from Acquiring Nukes

(Worthy News) – Defense Secretary Jim Mattis said Wednesday the Trump administration is working with U.S. allies on a measure to prevent Iran from procuring a nuclear weapon, less than 24 hours after President Donald Trump torpedoed the Obama-era Iran nuclear deal.

Testifying before the defense subcommittee of the Senate Appropriations Committee, Mattis said Trump withdrew the United States from the 2015 Iran nuclear accord on Tuesday because he was unable to confirm Tehran’s compliance to its provisions, which exchanged sanctions relief for a pause on the regime’s nuclear program.

“We have walked away from the JCPOA because we feel that it was inadequate for the long-term effort and this is something that was probably noted by the Senate several years ago when the Senate did not endorse it as a treaty,” Mattis said, referring to the deal’s official name, the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action. Moscow says it’s still mulling advanced air defense supply to Syria

(Worthy News) – Russian Deputy Defense Minister Alexander Fomin said Wednesday that a decision has not yet been made on supplying Syria with advanced air defense systems, a development that Israel fears could hamper its efforts to prevent Iranian military entrenchment in Syrian territory and transfers of arms supplies to the Hezbollah terror group in Lebanon.

Fomin clarified that Russia may yet supply the unspecified systems to the Damascus regime and that Moscow feels no restrictions on what kind of equipment the Syrians could receive, the Interfax news agency reported.

Fomin’s comments came as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visited Moscow for talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin. [ Source: Times of Israel (Read More…) ]

House church pastor tried for leaking state secrets in China

(Worthy News) – A pastor of a now-closed house church in the capital of China’s inland Guizhou province was found guilty of “intentionally disclosing state secrets” at a trial on April 26, but the announcement of the verdict was delayed.

Su and his two defense attorneys, Xiao Yunyang and Zhang Peihong, attended the court session, but the trial was not made public and therefore was not audited. The trial lasted two hours.
