‘I Know I’m Going to Get Killed’: The UK’s Stunning Punishment for a Man Who Protested Radical Islam

(Worthy News) – The arrest and imprisonment of Stephen Lennon, better known as Tommy Robinson, has set off protests around the world. Lennon is a British right-wing activist who’s been outspoken about the growing influence of Islam in that country. Some have compared him to a ‘whistleblower.’

Study Unwittingly Uncovers Possible Major Flaw in Evolution of Species Theory

(Worthy News) – New scientific findings published last week might be compelling enough to change popular beliefs surrounding the evolution of species, Phys.org reported.

A genetic survey conducted by scientists Mark Stoeckle from The Rockefeller University in New York and David Thaler at the University of Basel in Switzerland examined five million gene snapshots called “DNA barcodes.” The barcodes, collected from 100,000 animal species, including humans, revealed what came as a shock to the researchers: nine out of 10 species on Earth today — humans included — came into being around 100,000 to 200,000 years ago.

Stoeckle, lead author of the study, explained in the journal Human Evolution that while the popular biological belief is that species with large, long-standing populations (e.g. ants, rats, humans) would become more genetically diverse over time, the reality is that genetic diversity has been “about the same” for hundreds of millennia. Iran is the culprit behind Tuesday’s Gaza rocket barrage, Israel says

(Worthy News) – Israel is pointing a finger at Iran for being behind the most serious escalation on it’s southern front in four years.

Less than a month after Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps fired 32 rockets toward Israel’s northern Golan Heights, the Iranian-funded Islamic Jihad along with Hamas fired some 180 Iranian-made 120-mm. mortar shells and 107-mm. rockets toward communities in southern Israel.

It was the largest salvo fired from the Gaza Strip since the end of Operation Protective Edge in 2014. In response, Israel carried out the most extensive retaliation since 2014, striking 65 Hamas targets across the entire Gaza Strip, including a dual-purpose tunnel dug one kilometer into Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula and then 900 meters into Israeli territory. Haley calls Security Council response to Gazan volleys ‘outrageous’

(Worthy News) – Nikki Haley, US President Donald Trump’s envoy to the UN, tore into the organization on Wednesday for what she characterized as a lackadaisical response to the firing of over 70 rockets on Israel from Gaza the day before.

Claiming a double standard, and questioning why Israeli military actions against Hamas, recognized as a terrorist organization, rile world opinion more so than the reverse, Haley called on the Security Council to condemn the attack as an act of terrorism.

The Gazan volleys were “a clear escalation of violence,” Haley said, accusing the council of being “disconnected” from the realities on the ground. “The people of Gaza do not need protection from an external force. The people of Gaza need protection from Hamas.” [ Source: Jerusalem Post (Read More…) ]

Algeria: two more Protestant churches closed down by government

(Worthy News) – The authorities in Algeria have closed down two more Protestant churches, amidst growing pressure on the country’s Christian minority.

Over the past weekend, police sealed off two churches in the north-eastern province of Kabylie, where much of the growth in the Church is happening.

One church is in Ait-Mellikeche, a district of Tazmalt, in the Bejaia region (200km east of Algiers, the capital). It was established in 2005, and more than 200 attended its weekly service. It affiliated to the main umbrella organization for Protestant churches, Eglises Protestantes d’Algerie (EPA), in 2007. [ Source: World Watch Monitor (Read More…) ]

Adviser to Iran’s top leader pushes uranium enrichment

(Worthy News) – A top adviser to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, is proposing Iran resume its uranium enrichment in the wake of the U.S. withdrawal from the nuclear deal between world powers and Tehran.

Ali Akbar Velayati was quoted Wednesday by the semi-official Tasnim news agency as saying Iran is “capable to spin centrifuges for enrichment” to higher levels should it choose to do so.

Velayati says Iran should also accelerate production of nuclear propulsions and also research on advanced centrifuges. He claimed this wouldn’t violate the nuclear deal which put limits on Iran’s atomic program in exchange for lifting economic sanctions. [ Source: Washington Times (Read More…) ]

Current lava flows are hottest, fastest of latest eruption

(Worthy News) – The hottest and fastest-moving lava of Kilauea volcano’s latest eruption spread across new parts of the Big Island Wednesday, forcing officials to order evacuations in two coastal neighborhoods over fears that the rapidly advancing flows could cut off dwindling escape routes.

Overnight, the lava was moving fast enough to cover about six football fields an hour, according to U.S. Geological Survey scientist Wendy Stovall.

“Hawaii County Civil Defense decided to evacuate all of lower Puna to ensure that people would be able to get out,” Stovall said. [ Source: Fox News (Read More…) ]

Blockbuster term: Justices could determine limits of courts’ ability to check Trump administration

(Worthy News) – The Supreme Court over the next month is poised to upend the way the country picks representatives to Congress, decide whether the First Amendment protects people who refuse to do business with same-sex couples and rule on whether President Trump’s tweets can be used in court to derail his agenda.

After what analysts described as a lackluster term last year, this year is shaping up to deliver a series of blockbuster rulings that will signal to lower courts how they should treat the unorthodox Mr. Trump.

The biggest test comes on the president’s travel ban. His opponents have begged the justices to hold Mr. Trump’s campaign-era tweets against him, saying his comments about Muslims taint the travel policy he announced once he took office. [ Source: Washington Times (Read More…) ]
