London ‘bridges’ falling down: Curious origins of FBI’s Trump-Russia probe

(Worthy News) – The bridge to the Russia investigation wasn’t erected in Moscow during the summer of the 2016 election.

It originated earlier, 1,700 miles away in London, where foreign figures contacted Trump campaign advisers and provided the FBI with hearsay allegations of Trump-Russia collusion, bureau documents and interviews of government insiders reveal. These contacts in spring 2016 — some from trusted intelligence sources, others from Hillary Clinton supporters — occurred well before FBI headquarters authorized an official counterintelligence investigation on July 31, 2016.

The new timeline makes one wonder: Did the FBI follow its rules governing informants?

Here’s what a congressman and an intelligence expert think.

“The revelation of purposeful contact initiated by alleged confidential human sources prior to any FBI investigation is troublesome,” Rep. Mark Meadows (R-N.C.), an ally of President Trump and chairman of a House subcommittee that’s taking an increasingly aggressive oversight role in the scandal, told me. “This new information begs the questions: Who were the informants working for, who were they reporting to and why has the [Department of Justice] and FBI gone to such great lengths to hide these contacts?” [ Source: The Hill (Read More…) ]

Supreme Court likely to rack up more reversals for West Coast’s 9th Circuit

(Worthy News) – The federal appeals court that covers the country’s West Coast is doing little to shake its reputation as the most out-of-touch circuit, already having notched seven cases that have been reversed by the U.S. Supreme Court so far this year and 115 over the past decade.

As the justices prepare to release final rulings in 29 cases, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit again will be in the spotlight with some of its major cases, such as President Trump’s travel ban, up for review — and potential reversal — by the high court.

But as bad as the 9th Circuit’s record is, it’s losing percentage — 78 percent so far this year and 76 percent for the past decade — still isn’t the worst. [ Source: Washington Times (Read More…) ]

At least 25 killed as Guatemala volcano spews fire, ash

(Worthy News) – Rescuers struggled to reach rural residents cut off by a volcanic eruption that killed at least 25 people and injured 20 near Guatemala’s capital late Sunday, and authorities feared the death toll could rise with an undetermined number of people unaccounted for.

The Volcan de Fuego, Spanish for “volcano of fire,” exploded in a hail of ash and molten rock shortly before noon Sunday, blanketing nearby villages in heavy ash. Then it began sending lava flows down the mountain’s flank and across homes and roads around 4 p.m.

At least another 20 people have been injured in the eruption, the second major one this year from the 3,763 meter (12,346 feet) peak. [ Source: Times of Israel (Read More…) ]

Kim Jong Un ‘fires North Korea’s top three military generals’

(Worthy News) – Kim Jong Un has reportedly fired North Korea’s top three military generals in what appears to be an attempt to quash dissent ahead of a summit with Donald Trump.

South Korea’s Yonhap news agency says all three have been replaced ahead of the 12 June summit in Singapore, the first meeting between sitting leaders of the US and North Korea.

Analysts say the move, which sees Mr Kim take a tighter rein on the Korean People’s Army (KPA), could support efforts to jump-start economic development and engage with the world. [ Source: Sky News (Read More…) ]

Why Japan Wants Its Past Persecution of Christians to Be World Renowned

(Worthy News) – This month, a dozen Christian landmarks in Japan—where just 1 percent of the population claims Christ—have been officially recommended to be named World Heritage sites.

Spanning across the Nagasaki and Amakusa region, these sites represent places where believers during the Tokugawa shogunate (1630-1867) suffered the harshest persecution and martyrdom in the Asian nation’s history.

The list includes the Oura Cathedral in Nagasaki, which memorializes 17 Japanese Christians and 9 European priests who were crucified at the order of the ruler; Hara Castle in Minamishimabara, a battlefield during the uprising when Catholic rebels were massacred, their leader beheaded, and their faith banned; and other “hidden Christian” sites, where Christ-followers carried on their beliefs in secret for hundreds of years. Portland sees bloody fighting as Antifa activists storm Patriot Prayer rally

(Worthy News) – Violence broke out in downtown Portland, Oregon, on Sunday as Antifa activists stormed a Patriot Prayer rally — about a year after similar dueling rallies triggered bloody fights and arrests.

Some protesters on Sunday hurled bottles and fireworks at police officers while others were caught with knives and other weapons, Portland Police tweeted. Officials encouraged people to get out of the immediate area “for their safety.”

It was not immediately clear if Sunday’s demonstrations downtown resulted in any arrests, but photos and videos posted to social media showed protesters fighting and clashing, while some apparently were doused with pepper spray. [ Source: Fox News (Read More…) ]

US lawmakers push for recognition of Israeli sovereignty over Golan

(Worthy News) – An American plan to bring the U.S. closer to recognizing the Golan Heights was laid out for Israeli and American officials in Washington last week.

The six-point plan proposed by a group of American legislators and spearheaded by Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) calls to implement trade agreements between the U.S. and Israel on the Golan Heights and formulate a letter “recognizing the changes that have taken place on the ground,” similar to a document that former President George W. Bush presented to former Prime Minister Ariel Sharon prior to the 2005 disengagement, acknowledging the existence of large Israeli settlement blocs in Judea and Samaria and saying it would be “unrealistic” to expect Israel to fully withdraw.

Last week, another initiative to cement U.S. recognition of the Golan Heights as Israeli territory, put forth by Rep. Ron DeSantis (R-Fla.), was voted down by the House of Representatives. [ Source: Israel Hayom (Read More…) ]
