Kushner, Greenblatt to visit region for peace plan talks

(Worthy News) – Senior Trump administration officials will visit the Middle East next week to consult regional governments on their plan for Israeli-Palestinian peace.

Jared Kushner and Jason Greenblatt, the two White House officials leading the effort, will ask Israeli, Egyptian and Saudi Arabian leadership for input on when might be best to release the detailed peace plan, which is largely finished. The team says it wants to publish the proposals “when the circumstances are right,” but a breakdown in relations with the Palestinians has frustrated their plans.

Kushner and Greenblatt will travel to Israel, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia “to discuss the situation in Gaza and to discuss the next stages of the peace effort, as well as get some ideas from players in the region about some remaining questions the White House peace team has,” a National Security Council spokesperson said. “The trip may include other stops as well.” [ Source: Jerusalem Post (Read More…) ]

UN General Assembly condemns Israel for ‘excessive’ force at Gaza border

(Worthy News) – With a huge majority, the United Nations General Assembly on Wednesday passed a resolution condemning Israel for using “excessive, disproportionate and indiscriminate” force during the recent clashes at the Gaza border and calling for an “international protection mechanism” for Palestinian civilians.

The dramatic, down to the wire session saw the United States attempt to add a paragraph condemning Hamas, which was ultimately rejected on procedural grounds though most member states supported it. The resolution, proposed by Algeria and Turkey, then passed with 120 “yes” votes, 8 “no” votes and 45 abstentions.

The eight countries that voted against the resolution were the US, Israel, Australia, Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Nauru, Togo and the Solomon Islands. [ Source: Times of Israel (Read More…) ]

Even Democrats Oppose U.S. Abortion Laws, Gallup Poll Shows

(Worthy News) – Most American adults oppose legalized abortion in the second and trimesters according to a new Gallup survey that shows people who call themselves pro-choice actually disagree with current U.S. abortion laws.

Perhaps surprisingly, even Democrats oppose current abortion laws.

Under the 1973 Supreme Court decisions Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton, abortion was legalized nationwide during all stages of pregnancy, and for effectively any reason. U.S. abortion law remains among the most liberal in the Western world. For example, the Netherlands bans abortion after viability, which is defined as 24 weeks.

Gallup found that while 60 percent of Americans back legal abortion in the first trimester, support plummets to 28 percent in the second trimester and 13 percent in the third trimester. Even among Democrats – whose party supports legalized abortion – support for legal abortion in the second trimester is only 46 percent and in the third trimester 18 percent.[ Source: Christian Headlines (Read More…) ]

Saudis, allies launch long-awaited, high-risk assault on key Yemeni port

(Worthy News) – The Saudi-led coalition battling Iranian-backed Houthi separatists in Yemen launched a long-awaited, high-risk campaign to break the back of the insurgency, with American military assistance, in a mass offensive against a key rebel stronghold in the country.

But U.S. officials at the Pentagon and State Department are warning Riyadh that fallout from the operation could deepen the suffering in what is already one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises.

Saudi-led ground troops, including forces from Egypt, Jordan, United Arab Emirates and other Sunni-dominant Muslim nations, rolled toward the Yemeni port city of Hodeidah, which lies 140 miles of the capitol Sanaa, has been the main supply line for international humanitarian aid to the war-torn nation. The port is also believed to be the major transfer point for Iranian weapons, material and equipment for the Houthi militia since civil war broke out three years earlier.
