Anti-Christian Agenda: Canada Cuts-Off Christian College and Bible Camp, but Boosts Muslims

(Worthy News) – Two recent Canadian government decisions are raising concerns about anti-Semitic and anti-Christian bias in Canada.

Christians say Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s insistence on a liberal “values test” has cut government aid to churches but has provided financial help to Muslim groups opposed to the United States and Israel.

Candice Bergen, a member of Parliament from the Conservative Party, challenged the Canadian PM to explain why his government has denied aid to churches that are helping the homeless, but provides money to at least one extremist Muslim group. [ Source: CBN News (Read More…) ]

Judge: Kansas Cannot Require Proof of Citizenship to Vote

(Worthy News) – A federal judge ruled Monday that Kansas cannot require documentary proof of U.S. citizenship to register to vote, finding such laws violate the constitutional right to vote in a ruling with national implications for voting rights.

The ruling by U.S. District Judge Julie Robinson is the latest setback for Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach, who has championed such laws and led President Donald Trump’s now-defunct voter fraud commission. The 118-page decision consolidated two cases challenging a Kansas voter registration law requiring people to provide documents such as a birth certificate, U.S. passport or naturalization papers.

The decision makes permanent an earlier injunction that had temporarily blocked the law. [ Source: CBN News (Read More…) ]

‘Divisive’ billboard proclaiming ‘America is a Christian nation’ removed in Dallas

(Worthy News) – A sign near a Dallas highway proclaiming that “America is a Christian nation” was removed by the billboard company after it had drawn criticism, including from the city’s mayor.

The advertisement along Dallas North Tollway had promoted a service on Christian patriotism set for Sunday at First Baptist Church of Dallas.

But on the day after Mayor Mike Rawlings was cited in a column in the Dallas Morning News as calling the billboard “divisive,” Outfront Media revoked its approval, according to First Baptist senior pastor Robert Jeffress. [ Source: Washington Times (Read More…) ]

Russia-to-Germany undersea pipeline unnerves U.S., riles region

(Worthy News) – It has driven a wedge between America and its allies, given Russia a chance to put a stranglehold on European energy markets and may even threaten U.S. national security, some observers suggest, by potentially doubling as a spy device.

The proposed Russia-to-Germany Nord Stream 2 has morphed into much more than just another natural gas pipeline project, and it has U.S. officials vowing economic retaliation. U.S. allies across central and southern Europe warn that the project will sideline them while drawing Moscow and Berlin closer.

The 745-mile undersea pipeline, U.S. and foreign officials say, is poised to be a weapon Russia can wield to increase European dependence on its fuel. Furthermore, officials tell The Washington Times, deep security concerns are associated with Nord Stream 2, and the Trump administration has taken steps to sanction Russian companies that provide materials for Moscow’s “underwater capabilities” used to track undersea communication cables. Republicans abandon Trump, demand end to zero-tolerance border policy

(Worthy News) – Congressional Republicans beat a full-scale retreat Monday from the administration’s zero-tolerance border policy, joining Democrats to demand that President Trump stop jailing parents and find ways to keep families together while trying to stop a new surge of illegal immigration.

High-profile Republicans said they are writing bills that would end family separations, and Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker, a Republican, said he will no longer allow his National Guard troops to assist with border security as a protest against Mr. Trump’s policies.

Former first lady Laura Bush also weighed in, comparing family separations to internment of Japanese-Americans during World War II. [ Source: Washington Times (Read More…) ]

UN chief warns Gaza violence is close ‘to the brink of war’

(Worthy News) – Secretary-General Antonio Guterres says the escalation of violence in Gaza is “a warning to all how close to the brink of war the situation is,” and he is urging Israel and Gaza’s Hamas rulers to recommit to the cease-fire that ended their 2014 war.

The U.N. chief said in a report to the Security Council obtained Monday by The Associated Press that he is “shocked” by the Israeli Defense Forces’ use of live fire since border protests began in Gaza on March 30. He said its military has “a responsibility to exercise maximum restraint” except as a last resort.

“The killing of children, as well as of clearly identified journalists and medical staffers by security forces during a demonstration are particularly unacceptable,” Guterres said. “They must be allowed to perform their duties without fear of death or injury.” [ Source: Fox News (Read More…) ]

North Korea’s Kim visit Beijing; South Korea, U.S. halt military drill

(Worthy News) – North Korean leader Kim Jong Un arrived in Beijing on Tuesday, where he will likely brief Chinese President Xi Jinping on his summit with U.S. President Donald Trump last week, as Washington and Seoul agreed to suspend a major joint military exercise.

This is Kim’s third trip to China this year, coming a week after he met Trump in Singapore for historic talks.

Trump agreed to work with Kim toward complete denuclearization of the Korean peninsula, committed to provide the North’s regime with security guarantees and pledged to end “war games”, which Pyongyang and Beijing have long seen as provocative. South Korea and the Pentagon announced they would halt the annual Freedom Guardian military drill scheduled for August. [ Source: Reuters (Read More…) ]
