In reversal, Trump signs order stopping family separation

(Worthy News) – Bowing to pressure from anxious allies, US President Donald Trump signed an executive order Wednesday ending the process of separating children from families after they are detained crossing the US border illegally.

It was a dramatic turnaround for Trump, who has been insisting, wrongly, that his administration had no choice but to separate families apprehended at the border because of federal law and a court decision.

The news in recent days has been dominated by searing images of children held in cages at border facilities, as well as audio recordings of young children crying for their parents — images that have sparked fury, question of morality and concern from Republicans about a negative impact on their races in November’s midterm elections. 45 rockets launched from Gaza amid night of intense IDF, Hamas fire

(Worthy News) – Rocket sirens blared in the south throughout the early morning hours Wednesday, as barrages totaling some 45 rockets and mortar shells were fired toward Israeli towns, prompting three rounds of Israeli airstrikes on Hamas military sites in the Gaza Strip.

At least three rockets fired from the coastal enclave landed inside Israeli communities adjacent to the border, while a further 10 landed in open fields, Israeli officials said, after increased tensions led to a night of attacks and counter-blows.

The IDF said fighter jets struck 25 targets in various military bases belonging to the Hamas terror group from the north to the south of the Gaza Strip in response to the rocket and mortar fire. [ Source: Times of Israel (Read More…) ]

How Muslim Mobs Attack Christian Churches in Egypt with Impunity

(Worthy News) – Christians coerced into an out-of-court settlement following an Islamist attack on a church building in Egypt recently saw the usual outcome – a closed church – a practice that has long oppressed Christians, according to Middle East observers.

Members of an armed Muslim mob that attacked a church building in Meinin village, Beni Suef Governorate, in April were acquitted on May 22 of mobbing, fighting and possession of unlicensed firearms based on a “conciliation” settlement calling for the church site to close.

Nine Christians were arrested – with five held illegally for a month – and charged with failing to have a church building license in a country where officials are slow to approve licenses if at all, Middle East specialist Raymond Ibrahim noted on his website. The State Security Court handed the nine Christians and 11 Muslims one-year suspended sentences, essentially acquitting them based on the out-of-court settlement. FBI Agent Strzok, Who Vowed to Stop Trump, Booted Off Mueller Team Escorted From FBI HQ

(Worthy News) – An FBI agent removed from special counsel Robert Mueller’s team because of anti-Donald Trump text messages has been escorted out of the FBI building “as part of the ongoing internal proceedings,” his attorney said Tuesday.

Peter Strzok “remains a proud FBI agent” who wants to serve his country but has been the “target of unfounded personal attacks, political games and inappropriate information leaks,” according to a statement from lawyer Aitan Goelman.

Goelman said that “despite being put through a highly questionable process, Pete has complied with every FBI procedure, including being escorted from the building as part of the ongoing internal proceedings.” [ Source: CBN News (Read More…) ]

Senate Democrats reject GOP legislative fix to stop family separations

(Worthy News) – Senate Democrats indicated Tuesday they may not agree to narrow legislation that would end the separation of children from parents who cross into the country illegally at the southern border.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., refused to say if he and other Democrats would support a bill that Republicans are working on, and when pressed, said several times that President Trump should act on his own to stop these family separations from happening.

Senate Majority Whip John Cornyn and Sen. Ted Cruz, both Republicans of Texas, have proposed legislation that would allow children to remain at detention centers with their parents and would speed up adjudication with the help of additional immigration judges.

Lawmakers said the measure could be attached to a spending bill up for a Senate vote this week, or it could be considered as a separate measure. [ Source: Washington Examiner (Read More…) ]

Judge temporarily blocks Arkansas’ medical abortion ban

(Worthy News) – A federal judge on Monday issued a restraining order that will temporarily stop an Arkansas law that prohibits medical abortions.

In May, medical abortions were banned in Arkansas after the Supreme Court declined to review Planned Parenthood’s appeal of a lower court’s decision to allow the ban. But U.S. District Judge Kristine Baker said Planned Parenthood’s argument against the ban would likely succeed.

“In regard to burdens, considered cumulatively, the record evidence at this stage of the litigation demonstrates that the contracted physician requirement, given plaintiffs’ inability to comply with it, significantly burdens a large faction of women in Arkansas seeking medication abortions,” Baker wrote in her opinion. Americans’ Satisfaction With Country’s Direction Hits 12-Year High in New Poll

(Worthy News) – More Americans are satisfied with the direction of the country than at any point in the past 12 years, according to a new Gallup poll.

The poll, which was released Monday, shows that 38 percent of respondents are “satisfied with the way things are going,” the highest number since 2005.

“The satisfaction rate, which Gallup has measured at least monthly since 2001, has now topped 35% three times this year — a level reached only three times in the previous 12 years (once each in 2006, 2009 and 2016),” the report says. [ Source: Fox News (Read More…) ]

Iran says Europe’s proposals not enough to save nuclear deal: IRNA

(Worthy News) – Iran’s nuclear chief said on Tuesday that Europe’s proposals to salvage the 2015 nuclear deal after the U.S. withdrawal from the pact were not satisfying for Tehran, warning that all sides would lose if Iran is sidelined by the West, the IRNA state news agency said.

IRNA reported that the head of Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization, Ali Akbar Salehi had shown Iran’s dissatisfaction with European proposals to save the nuclear deal in a meeting with United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.

Referring to Iran’s important regional role, Salehi was quoted as saying: “if it continues like this, all sides will lose.” [ Source: Reuters (Read More…) ]

Nikki Haley blasts U.N. Human Rights Council as ‘cesspool of political bias’ as U.S. withdraws

(Worthy News) – The Trump administration has pulled the U.S. out of the United Nations’ main human rights body because of long-standing complaints that the panel is biased against Israel, U.S. Ambassador Nikki Haley and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced Tuesday.

“For too long, [the U.N. Human Rights Council] has been a protector of human rights abusers and a cesspool of political bias,” Mrs. Haley said. “Regrettably, it is now clear that our call for reform was not heeded.”
