(Worthy News) – Deadly conflict is raging in central Nigeria as more than 200 people were reportedly killed in a series of recent clashes between Muslim herders and Christian farmers.

The violence erupted on June 24 when Fulani herdsmen, who are mostly Muslim, attacked six predominantly Christian villages in Nigeria’s Plateau state. Many of those killed were Christians, and they were reportedly hacked to death.

(Worthy News) – Nearly three in 10 Christians have shared their faith with non-believing friends and acquaintances on social media, according to a report by the Barna Group.

As part of a new report released with Lutheran Hour Ministries, Barna surveyed American adults to gauge how they discuss faith online.

Their research found that 28 percent of Christian respondents reported sharing their faith with nonbelievers on social media, as well as 58 percent of non-Christian respondents reporting that someone shared their faith with them on social media. [ Source: Christian Post (Read More…) ]

(Worthy News) – Concluding a three-day visit to Israel and the Palestinian Authority, Prince William traveled Thursday morning to the Mount of Olives to visit the grave of his great-grandmother, Princess Alice of Battenberg, who saved a Jewish family during the Holocaust and was buried at the cemetery in the late 1980s.

He then headed to the Church of Mary Magdalene, the Temple Mount and the al-Aqsa Mosque. He placed a note in the Western Wall before moving on to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre.

(Worthy News) – The Palestinian Authority on Tuesday expressed fear that the talk about easing restrictions on the Gaza Strip was part of an Israeli-Palestinian “conspiracy” to transform the Palestinian cause into a “humanitarian issue.”

The PA, which has been imposing its own financial sanctions on the Gaza Strip, also expressed fear that the easing of restrictions would embolden Hamas and tighten its grip over the coastal enclave.

Palestinian Authority officials in Ramallah claimed that the US administration and the Israeli government were now talking about improving the living conditions of the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip as a way of “undermining the Palestinian national project, including the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state.” [ Source: Jerusalem Post (Read More…) ]

(Worthy News) – US President Donald Trump intends to demand from his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin a full Iranian pullout from Syria territory, making the subject a priority in talks between the two leaders planned for next month, the Arabic-language Al-Hayat newspaper reported Thursday.

Israel has urged the international community to oppose Iran’s military presence in Syria, fearing its arch-foe will set up forward bases to use in attacks on the Jewish state.

“If the Putin-Trump summit is held on July 15, its core will be to negotiate Washington’s insistence on Iran’s withdrawal from Syria,” a Western diplomat told the London-based daily. [ Source (Read More…) ]

(Worthy News) – French investigators are trying to establish the veracity of claims that ISIS plotted to send child recruits from Syria to Europe to carry out terrorist attacks, according to a report by the daily newspaper Le Monde, based on the interrogation of a suspect in French custody.

Jonathan Geffroy, a 35-year-old French jihadist who was arrested last year while trying to escape from Syria with his family, reportedly revealed the plan during questioning.

(Worthy News) – The Supreme Court delivered a major blow to public-sector unions Wednesday, ruling that they cannot force government workers to join or financially support them.

The 5-4 ruling in the case, called, Janus v. American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, by the court’s conservative wing overturned a four-decade-old precedent and affects about seven million people.

(Worthy News) – Justice Anthony Kennedy announced his retirement this afternoon. For decades, Kennedy was the swing justice on an otherwise ideologically balanced Supreme Court. Although he never served as chief justice, his vote was decisive in a great number of major cases.

Here are six cases in which Kennedy sided with the more liberal members of the court in order to produce a 5-4 ruling. A post-Kennedy court in which the justice is replaced by a reliably conservative jurist could overturn any or all of these cases: Roe v. Wade (abortion), Kelo v. New London (eminent domain), Obergefell v. Hodges (same-sex marriage), Massachusetts v. EPA (environmental protection), U.S. Term Limits, Inc v. “I can tell you we’re four months away from an election where the American people will decide the majority in the United States Senate,” said Senate Minority Whip Dick Durbin, D-Ill. “Following the tortured logic of Mitch McConnell, let’s let the American people speak.”

There shouldn’t be a vote on any nominee, Democrats said, until voters have had a say in the November election, which could determine control of the Senate. Though Senate Democratic leaders, most of their caucus, and the party’s restless base are eager to rumble with Republicans over the vacancy, they have no tools to block Trump’s pick. (Worthy News) – Republicans searching for that elusive issue to erase the Democrats’ critical edge in voter enthusiasm heading into the midterm elections believe they’ve found their golden ticket in the retirement of Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy.

Senior Republicans are predicting that the opportunity to replace Kennedy, a swing vote on the narrowly divided high court, with a young conservative who could tilt the court to the right and serve for decades, will galvanize the conservative base and motivate rank-and-file GOP voters to put any uneasiness with President Trump aside and stick with the party in November.
