EU reportedly warns of new tariffs worth $300 billion if Trump targets automakers

(Worthy News) – The United States could get a new round of retaliatory tariffs worth as much as $300 billion, if it moves ahead with new duties on European cars, the Financial Times reported.

In a written statement to the U.S. Department of Commerce, seen by the news publication, the EU set out clear plans to respond to potential U.S. duties on European cars. According to the newspaper, European leaders are getting more convinced that President Donald Trump will put new tariffs on European cars.

The written submission sent by the EU also highlighted that European-owned car brands represented more than a quarter of U.S. car production. It added that this was mainly focused on exportation and any tariffs would fragment markets, raise prices for the American consumer and potentially lead to job losses. [ Source: CNBC (Read More…) ]

Evangelical leaders downplay potential Roe v. Wade reversal

(Worthy News) – For evangelical Christian leaders like Jerry Falwell Jr., this is their political holy grail.

Like many religious conservatives in a position to know, the Liberty University president with close ties to the White House suspects that the Supreme Court vacancy President Donald Trump fills in the coming months will ultimately lead to the reversal of the landmark abortion case Roe v. Wade.

But instead of celebrating publicly, some evangelical leaders are downplaying their fortune on an issue that has defined their movement for decades.

“What people don’t understand is that if you overturn Roe v. Wade, all that does is give the states the right to decide whether abortion is legal or illegal,” Falwell told The Associated Press in an interview. “My guess is that there’d probably be less than 20 states that would make abortion illegal if given that right.” [ Source: Washington Examiner (Read More…) ]

US to strictly enforce secondary sanctions on Iran, Trump says

(Worthy News) – The White House will strictly enforce the upcoming secondary sanctions on companies that do business with Iran, President Trump reaffirmed on Sunday.

Trump announced earlier this year the U.S. would withdraw from the nuclear accord with Iran, spurring global confusion as international companies race to unwind their operations in the country. In the aftermath of that decision, the administration said it would sanction companies that continue to do business with Iran.

While some foreign governments are seeking to pass measures to force companies to adhere to the terms of the Iran agreement crafted under the Obama administration, Trump warned that those businesses would violate the new secondary sanctions. [ Source: Washington Examiner (Read More…) ]

Fast-spreading California wildfire forces evacuations in Yolo County

(Worthy News) – A fast-growing wildfire that broke out over the weekend in Northern California, fueled by parched lands and high winds, prompted evacuations on Sunday and sent ash spewing over a wide area of the region, officials said.

More than 1,200 people were fighting the so-called County Fire, located about 75 miles (120 kms) northeast of San Francisco. It has blazed through around 32,500 acres (13,150 hectares) and was 2 percent contained as of Sunday evening, officials said.

The sky turned orange in parts of the San Francisco Bay area due to the blaze, with many residents waking up to a thin coating of ash on windows, cars, and lawns. [ Source: Reuters (Read More…) ]

Palestinians: Calling Jerusalem Israel’s capital is ‘incitement’

(Worthy News) – The Palestinians consider statements such as “Jerusalem is the capital of Israel” and “Jerusalem is the capital of the Jewish people” as a form of “incitement,” according to a report released on Sunday by the PLO Department of Culture and Information.

The report comes in the context of Palestinian attempts to counter Israeli allegations of anti-Israel incitement in the Palestinian media, school textbooks, mosque sermons and public statements by Palestinian officials. In the past two decades, dozens of reports documenting Palestinian incitement against Israel and glorification of terrorists have been published by various Israeli and Jewish organizations in a move that has seriously embarrassed PA leaders and drawn criticism from some Western donors.

The PLO report – which cites statements made by a number of Israeli officials and politicians, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu – also considers calls for combating the fire kites launched toward Israel from the Gaza Strip as “incitement.”

Palestinians planning mass protests against Trump’s peace plan

(Worthy News) – Palestinian activists in the West Bank said over the weekend they have received a green light from the Palestinian Authority to organize protests against US President Donald Trump’s yet-to-be-unveiled plan for peace in the Middle East.

The decision to launch the protests came following the recent visit to the region by US envoys Jared Kushner and Jason Greenblatt. The Palestinians believe the two emissaries, who did not meet with any representative of the Palestinian Authority during their visit, came to the region to lay the final touches on the Trump plan before presenting it to Israel and the Arab countries.

Trump has referred to his upcoming plan as the “deal of the century,” while PA President Mahmoud Abbas and other Palestinians have denounced it as the “slap of the century.” [ Source: Jerusalem Post (Read More…) ]

Trump Allies Giuliani and Gingrich Cite Soviet Collapse in Foreseeing End to Iranian Regime

(Worthy News) – Addressing an Iranian opposition group’s rally in Paris on Saturday, two close political allies of President Trump pointed to the collapse of the Soviet Union in predicting the downfall of the Islamic regime in Tehran.

Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich were among a bipartisan group of prominent Americans who participated in the annual “Free Iran” event organized by the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI)/People’s Mujahedeen Organization of Iran (MEK), an exiled group outlawed and regarded by the regime as terrorists.

Citing protests that erupted last December and have ebbed and flowed in many Iranian cities and towns over the ensuing months, Giuliani declared that as the protests “continue to grow and grow, with numbers that now threaten to topple the regime, when that happens, then freedom is right around the corner.” [ Source: CNS News (Read More…) ]
