Yosemite closes key visitor areas as fire rages at edges

(Worthy News) – The heart of Yosemite National Park was closed on Wednesday as a fierce wildfire burning just to the west jumped fire lines overnight, pouring thick smoke into the valley and forcing visitors to pack up camp and flee.

Extreme temperatures, erratic winds and low humidity are supercharging the blaze and dozens of other fires were also burning in the U.S. West, with temperatures set to stay above 100 degrees Fahrenheit (37 C) into Thursday in many parts of California, Oregon, Arizona and Nevada, the National Weather Service said.

Heavy black smoke from the Ferguson Fire, which erupted on July 13 in the Sierra Nevada Mountains some 170 miles (275 km) east of San Francisco, prompted Yosemite park officials to shut down the main visitor hub of Yosemite Valley as well as Wawona and Mariposa Grove. [ Source (Read More…) ]

Pastor in Nicaragua: ‘We Fear War Could Erupt, Please Pray for Us’

(Worthy News) – Nicaragua was one of Latin America’s most peaceful countries – not anymore. Now residents of this Central American nation fear their country is on the brink of civil war.

“We fear war could erupt at any moment and that would bring a lot of suffering, so please pray for us,” a local evangelical pastor, whose city has been at the center of the conflict, told CBN News.

This pastor has a small-sized church in Masaya’s Monimbo neighborhood, some 17 miles south of Nicaragua’s capital city of Managua. Three months ago, on April 18, Masaya became the epicenter of a national resistance movement to Nicaragua’s President Daniel Ortega. [ Source: CBN News (Read More…) ]

Trump strikes deal with Europe to buy more US energy

(Worthy News) – President Trump hashed out a trade deal on Wednesday that will lead to Europe buying more liquefied natural gas from the U.S. to diversify its energy supplies.

Trump said the new steps taken Wednesday to reduce trade barriers on both sides of the Atlantic will also be “strengthening” the U.S.-European strategic relationship on energy.

“The European Union wants to import more liquefied natural gas, LNG, from the United States and they are going to be a big buyer,” he said after meeting with European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker. [ Source: Washington Examiner (Read More…) ]

Sarah Sanders on banning CNN reporter from event: ‘To be clear, we support a free press’

(Worthy News) – The White House defended banning a CNN correspondent from covering an open press event in the Rose Garden on Wednesday, pointing to the reporter’s alleged behavior when she asked President Trump questions in the Oval Office earlier in the day.

CNN’s Kaitlan Collins claims that White House press secretary Sarah Sanders and Bill Shine, deputy chief of staff for communications, told her Wednesday that she was no longer invited to attend a press event with Trump and European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker, after she asked Trump questions about Russian President Vladimir Putin and Trump’s former longtime lawyer Michael Cohen. Trump did not answer her questions.

“At the conclusion of a press event in the Oval Office a reporter shouted questions and refused to leave despite repeatedly being asked to do so. Subsequently, our staff informed her she was not welcome to participate in the next event, but made clear that any other journalist from her network could attend,” Sanders said in a statement. Hamas puts forces on alert, threatens revenge after IDF kills three fighters

(Worthy News) – Hamas’s military wing, the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, announced Thursday morning that its forces were going on high alert, deploying at the highest readiness level in expectation of a possible full-blown war with Israel.

The announcement follows Wednesday night’s sniper fire from Gaza that moderately wounded an IDF officer near Kissufim, which was followed by retaliatory strikes by IDF tanks and planes that targeted multiple Hamas installations and left three members of the terror group dead.

Following the exchange of fire, nine rockets were launched early Thursday from Gaza toward Israeli towns, eight landing in uninhabited areas and one shot down by the Iron Dome system. There were no reports of injuries or damage. [ Source: Times of Israel (Read More…) ]

Proposed Trump-Putin meeting at White House is put off

(Worthy News) – The Trump administration sought to fend off accusations the president is too soft on Russia, putting off a proposed second summit with Russian leader Vladimir Putin and declaring the U.S. will never recognize Russia’s 2014 annexation of Crimea.

As members of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee peppered Secretary of State Mike Pompeo with demands for details about last week’s summit in Finland, the White House said Wednesday that President Donald Trump had opted against trying to arrange another meeting with Putin this fall. Putin already had sent signals that he wasn’t interested in coming to Washington.

National security adviser John Bolton cited special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election as the reason for the delay, although many members of Congress had objected to the meeting and said Putin would not be welcome on Capitol Hill.
