Netanyahu threatens snap elections if no solution found to IDF Draft Law

(Worthy News) – Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned on Sunday that if no solution is found to the IDF draft law, a date will be set within the next two weeks for national elections.

The ultra-Orthodox factions in the government coalition have so far refused to change their position on the issue and support the bill.

“The approval of an amended draft law is one of the central things that served as a base to the current coalition and government. We have no interest in elections, but we will no be able to compromise on the fundamental and essential thing of safeguarding the status of yeshiva students whose Torah is their work,” said Deputy Health Minister Yaakov Litzman, who previously threatened to resign from the government should the law in its current version pass. Lira collapses as Erdogan tells Turks: They have ‘their dollars,’ we have ‘our god’

(Worthy News) – The Turkish lira has collapsed to an all-time low against the dollar, but the country’s leader has brushed aside concerns, telling Turks “we have our God.” The Turkish President Recep Erdogan then followed those comments up Friday by urging Turks to sell dollars and gold and buy lira.

At around 8:00 a.m. ET Friday, the lira had fallen to $7.081, an almost 11 percent loss for the session. It has since pared some losses. As recently as April one dollar bought about four Turkish lira.

The first wave of selling came early Friday after a Turkish delegation returned from the United States with apparently no progress on the detention of a U.S. pastor. The evangelist, Andrew Brunson, is charged with supporting a group blamed for an attempted coup in 2016. [ Source: CNBC (Read More…) ]

Preparing for fight against Hezbollah, army tries out combat reshuffle

(Worthy News) – The military has field-tested a new fighting method combining infantry, tanks and combat engineering into one unified force, as part of a major military reform meant to streamline the Israel Defense Forces, the army said Sunday.

The method was tested during a drill simulating war in the north against the Hezbollah terrorist group, during which the military also tried out new technologies, including an anti-mortar laser and more accurate artillery.

The restructured unit type was dubbed Tzakach Gideon, a Hebrew acronym that stands for Gideon brigade combat team, named after the Israel Defense Force’s multi-year Gideon Plan, a streamlining effort that the army began rolling out in 2016. [ Source: Times of Israel (Read More…) ]
