30 ships ordered to flee US Navy’s biggest base in Virginia as Hurricane Florence closes in

(Worthy News) – The US Navy has ordered 30 ships, likely including nuclear-powered aircraft carriers and submarines, to take to the seas as Hurricane Florence approaches from the Atlantic with 115 mph winds.

The Navy issued a “sortie code alpha” or its strongest possible order to move ships immediately in the presence of heavy weather.

US Navy ships weather rough storms all the time, and have been built to withstand hurricanes, but when moored to hard piers they’re susceptible to damage or even grounding, should the mooring lines break. [ Source: Business Insider (Read More…) ]

US suspects Russia behind ‘attacks’ on diplomats in Cuba and China

(Worthy News) – Intelligence agencies investigating mysterious suspected sonic attacks on US diplomats in Cuba and China believe that Russia is the main suspect, officials told NBC news on Tuesday.

NBC, citing three US officials and two others briefed on the investigation, said the suspicions were backed up by evidence from communications intercepts during the investigations by the FBI, the CIA, and other US agencies.

The officials declined to elaborate on the nature of the intelligence, NBC said, adding that the proof was still not conclusive enough to directly confront Russia. [ Source: Times of Israel (Read More…) ]

Trump’s ‘ultimate deal’ for Middle East peace meets resistance, throwing rollout into question

(Worthy News) – Two months ago, the long-awaited release of the Trump administration’s ambitious plan for peace between Israelis and Palestinians, what the president has called the “ultimate deal,” seemed imminent.

President Trump’s two top envoys to the peace process — Jared Kushner, his son-in-law and advisor, and Jason Greenblatt, a former senior Trump Organization lawyer — had prepared and begun to circulate a 40-page draft.

But the proposal hit a wall. Persian Gulf Arab states, which have courted and been courted by Trump, flatly rejected terms they saw as radical, pro-Israel and out of line with traditional U.S. policy and international law, according to officials familiar with the peace-seeking process. Putin, Xi together for the third time this year as Russia launches largest war games since Cold War

(Worthy News) – Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping met in far-eastern Russia on Tuesday, the same day the Kremlin began its biggest military exercise since the Cold War.

A sign of strengthening ties between the two Asian giants, the leaders gathered for two days of talks at the Russian-hosted Eastern Economic Forum in the port city of Vladivostok. It is their third meeting in 2018.

Observers note that economic, political and military ties between the two countries are blossoming as they attempt to counter efforts by the Trump administration to reassert U.S. power throughout Asia. They are also partnering up in the wake of the U.S. trade war. [ Source: Washington Times (Read More…) ]
