U.S. Judge Strikes Down Law Requiring Burial or Cremation of Aborted Babies

(Worthy News) – Last week, U.S. District Judge David Ezra struck down a Texas law that would require hospitals and clinics to bury or cremate fetal remains of pre-born babies instead of discarding them as medical waste.

In the 53-page ruling, Ezra said, that requiring this would place a burden on a woman’s “right” to an abortion.

“[T]he court finds the challenged laws impose significant burdens on women seeking an abortion or experiencing pregnancy loss (1) by requiring women’s healthcare facilities to use unreliable and nonviable waste disposal options and thus reducing access to abortion in Texas and (2) by enshrining one view of the status of and respect that should be given to embryonic and fetal tissue remains thereby burdening a woman’s abortion decision,” he wrote. US F-22 Raptors intercept Russian bombers flying near Alaska

(Worthy News) – Two Russian nuclear-capable bombers accompanied by two fighter jets were identified and intercepted by two F-22 Raptor fighters with North American Aerospace Defense Command on Tuesday “west of mainland Alaska.”

Although the Russian aircraft — two Tu-95 bombers and two Su-35 fighter jets — did not cross into U.S. or Canadian airspace, the incident marks the second time in September that Russian bombers have approached Alaska.

“The homeland is no longer a sanctuary and the ability to deter and defeat threats to our citizens, vital infrastructure, and national institutions starts with successfully detecting, tracking, and positively identifying aircraft of interest approaching U.S. and Canadian airspace,” Gen. Terrence O’Shaughnessy, the NORAD commander, said in a statement. “NORAD employs a layered defense network of radars, satellites, as well as fighters to identify aircraft and determine the appropriate response.” [ Source: Washington Examiner (Read More…) ]

(Worthy News) – Hurricane Florence late Wednesday has been downgraded to a Category 2 storm but it is still considered an extremely dangerous and life-threatening storm.

Florence’s nighttime winds were down to 110 mph from a high of 140 mph. But authorities warned it will still be an extremely dangerous hurricane.

NOAA’s National Weather Service said in a tweet that its “weakening” only refers to maximum winds. The wind field has expanded and “storm surge potential are still at catastrophic levels.” [ Source: Fox News (Read More…) ]

Fresh Debate As Germany Mulls Joining Airstrikes in the Event of Another Chemical Attack in Syria

(Worthy News) – Amid growing concerns about a possible chemical weapons attack in Syria’s Idlib province, Germany appears to be mulling participation in any retaliatory U.S.-led airstrikes, in a reversal of its traditionally hesitant stance on military engagement.

“It cannot be the German position to simply say ‘No,’ no matter what happens in the world,” Chancellor Angela Merkel said during a lower house of parliament session here on Wednesday.

Last April, when Britain and France joined the U.S. in bombing three Syrian government facilities following a chemical weapons attack, Merkel ruled out German participation. She said Wednesday that Germany could not always reject military intervention. [ Source: CNS News (Read More…) ]

Iran, in shadow proxy war with Saudis, expands its Pakistan influence

(Worthy News) – Iran is stepping up its involvement with political and militant Shiite groups in Pakistan, in what foreign affairs experts see as an escalating shadow proxy war with Saudi Arabia in a country with the world’s second-largest Muslim population.

“Iran is continuing to work to help rebel groups to form in the minority tribal region. There are Sindhi and Baluch separatist groups that Iran will help fund and support,” said retired Lt. Col Anthony Shaffer, an intelligence specialist who currently serves as senior fellow at the Center for Advanced Defense Studies at the London Center.

Shaffer and others believe Iranians have long funded an array of insurgent outfits in Pakistan, in part as a means to destabilize U.S. efforts in the region. [ Source: Fox News (Read More…) ]
