Trump vents over delay on Kavanaugh nomination, tells Senate to ‘get on with it’

(Worthy News) – President Trump expressed frustration Thursday with the Senate’s delay in advancing his Supreme Court nomination, telling lawmakers it was time to “get on with it.”

The president, speaking to Fox News in Las Vegas just before taking the stage for a political rally, said he believes Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s accuser, Christine Blasey Ford, deserves a chance to be heard, but he said Republicans have been fair in delaying action and trying to give her a chance.

“They have to get on with it,” he said.

The committee vote was supposed to have been earlier Thursday, but the GOP put that off in order to set a hearing next week to give both Judge Kavanaugh and Ms. Blasey Ford a forum to speak. [ Source: Washington Times (Read More…) ]

In fast-moving events, Kavanaugh accuser refuses Monday hearing; nominee appears confident

(Worthy News) – On Tuesday morning, Brett Kavanaugh accuser Christine Blasey Ford’s expected testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee was being called the most-anticipated event in Washington in decades. By Tuesday night, the whole thing appeared to be off.

Through it all, as Democrats scrambled and re-calibrated their position, Kavanaugh appeared extraordinarily confident.

By late Tuesday, with Ford apparently refusing to testify at the scheduled hearing, Kavanaugh appeared to be regaining the support of Republican senators who were shaken by Ford’s accusation. Sen. Bob Corker, R-Tenn., tweeted, “After learning of the allegation, Chairman Grassley took immediate action to ensure both Dr. Ford and Judge Kavanaugh have the opportunity to be heard, in public or private. Republicans extended a hand in good faith. If we don’t hear from both sides on Monday, let’s vote.” [ Source: Washington Examiner (Read More…) ]

US sanctions China military agency for buying Russian arms

(Worthy News) – A Chinese military agency and its director are facing U.S. sanctions over the purchase of Russian weapons, the State Department announced Thursday.

China’s Equipment Development Department and director Li Shangfu made a “significant transaction” involving the purchase of Russian combat aircraft and surface-to-air missiles, State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert said in a written statement.

The purchase violated a 2017 law intended to punish the government of President Vladimir Putin for interfering in U.S. elections and other activities. Anyone engaging with Russian defense contractors or people associated with them can face economic sanctions that include prohibitions from entering the U.S. or from conducting transactions with the U.S. financial system under the Countering America’s Adversaries Through Sanctions Act. U.S. blacklists Russian entities tied to election meddling

(Worthy News) – The Trump administration on Thursday blacklisted 33 Russian individuals and entities, including a billionaire and several companies accused of interfering in American politics, limiting their ability to conduct business internationally.

The Treasury Department also slapped penalties on a Chinese military department for purchasing jets and missiles from a Russian arms export entity that had been previously blacklisted.

The Trump administration made the move as part of a bill Congress passed last year to punish Russia for its 2016 election interference and military intrusions in Ukraine. The 33 individuals and entities will be added to a State Department list of blacklisted Russian military and intelligence operatives, meaning that anyone who partakes in “significant transactions” with the companies will now be hit with sanctions. IDF chief said to warn West Bank ripe for major violent outbreak

(Worthy News) – IDF Chief of Staff Gadi Eisenkot reportedly warned ministers this week that a major outbreak of violence was likely among Palestinians in the West Bank, due to PA President Mahmoud Abbas’ waning political influence and declining health.

During Sunday’s high-level security cabinet meeting, Eisenkot said a flare-up of attacks in the West Bank would require more troops than an escalation of hostilities in the Gaza Strip, highlighting the severity of the threat, according to a Hadashot television report on Thursday evening.

He estimated there was a “60-80 percent” chance of such a scenario unfolding, according to the report. [ Source: Times of Israel (Read More…) ]

Russian bombers intercepted by British jets after ignoring air traffic control, UK says

(Worthy News) – A pair of Russian nuclear-capable bombers buzzed the British coastline along the North Sea on Thursday while ignoring repeated radio calls, according to the U.K.’s ministry of defense.

Royal Air Force (RAF) Typhoon fighter jets on alert launched from a base in Scotland to intercept the bombers.

“The Russian Blackjacks… were not talking to air traffic control, making them a hazard to all other aviation,” said a statement from the British military. [ Source: Fox News (Read More…) ]

Over 70 Charlotte Churches of All Denominations Join Unity Sermon Series on the Gospel

(Worthy News) – Over 70 churches in Charlotte, North Carolina, have come together to declare in a unified sermon series what they are for, as opposed to what they are against.

“This whole thing started for us just out of relationship,” said Chris Payne, the senior pastor of two vibrant churches that recently merged to become one congregation, in a phone interview with The Christian Post.

Payne, 41, leads New Charlotte Church, which he and his wife started in their living room eight years ago, and Church at Charlotte, a 50-year-old congregation in the city.

“We wanted to let people know what we were for. A lot of times people know what the Church is against, but not really what we are for together.”

“And we’re for the Gospel; for the Church, capital-C church; we’re for each other, our neighbors; and we’re for our city.” [ Source: Christian Post (Read More…) ]

US: Why should we fund PA hospitals, when Abbas diverts money to pay terrorists?

(Worthy News) – The Trump administration on Thursday said that Palestinian plans to pay the family of a terrorist who killed an American-Israeli last week showed why the US was correct in cutting funding for East Jerusalem hospitals.

State Department spokesperson Heather Nauert said there was no reason for the US to fund the hospitals when it merely allowed the PA to free up money to support terrorists and their families.

“The United States government does not believe that it is responsible for paying for the hospital bills,” Nauert told reporters. “The Palestinian Authority is solely responsible for paying for the treatment of Palestinians in those hospitals. Historically, they have neglected to pay the bills at their hospital. Our funding in the past has generously shored them up.” [ Source: Times of Israel (Read More…) ]
