Violence against Christians Ratchets Up in Southern India

(Worthy News) – Christians in southern India are increasingly living in fear as the level of violence against them continues to rise, sources said.

The southern states of Karnataka, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Kerala saw at least 60 cases of persecution of Christians in the first nine months of 2018, compared with 36 such attacks in the first nine months of 2017, according to religious freedom advocacy group Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF)-India.

Although none of the states’ governments has explicit connections with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), commonly known as the political arm of the Hindu extremist Sangh Parivar (Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and its affiliates), the RSS volunteers are found throughout regional, secular parties, sources said. Netanyahu: World ‘Must Recognize’ Israel’s Sovereignty in Golan, No Iranian Presence

(Worthy News) – Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Iran is attempting to establish a military presence on the border with Israel along the Golan Heights.

Netanyahu was speaking at the dedication of a restored 1,500-year-old synagogue on the Golan Heights. Israel captured the area from Syria in the 1967 Six-Day War, developing and ultimately annexing it in December 1981.

“Israel on the Golan Heights is a guarantee for stability in the surrounding area,” he told participants at the dedication. “Israel on the Golan Heights is a solid reality based on ancient rights. Israel on the Golan Heights is a fact that the international community must recognize and as long as it depends on me, the Golan Heights will always remain under Israeli sovereignty because otherwise we would have Iran and Hezbollah on the shores of the Sea of Galilee.” [ Source: CBN News (Read More…) ]

Britain sees Brexit progress, again calls on EU to ‘meet us halfway’

(Worthy News) – Brexit minister Dominic Raab voiced confidence on Tuesday that Britain and the European Union would make progress on their divorce at a summit next week, but again asked the bloc to meet London “halfway” on the most difficult areas.

Brexit negotiations have stepped up before the summit next Wednesday and Thursday, and the EU has signaled that its officials believe a deal is within grasp. But one of the most difficult obstacles to securing the so-called withdrawal agreement, the Irish border, has yet to be resolved.

With just six months before Britain leaves the EU in its biggest shift in trade and foreign policy in more than 40 years, both sides say they are intensifying talks to try to avoid a “no deal” Brexit that could harm the world’s fifth largest economy. [ Source: Reuters (Read More…) ]

New Evidence of Hacked Supermicro Hardware Found in U.S. Telecom

(Worthy News) – A major U.S. telecommunications company discovered manipulated hardware from Super Micro Computer Inc. in its network and removed it in August, fresh evidence of tampering in China of critical technology components bound for the U.S., according to a security expert working for the telecom company.

The security expert, Yossi Appleboum, provided documents, analysis and other evidence of the discovery following the publication of an investigative report in Bloomberg Businessweek that detailed how China’s intelligence services had ordered subcontractors to plant malicious chips in Supermicro server motherboards over a two-year period ending in 2015.

Appleboum previously worked in the technology unit of the Israeli Army Intelligence Corps and is now co-chief executive officer of Sepio Systems in Gaithersburg, Maryland. His firm specializes in hardware security and was hired to scan several large data centers belonging to the telecommunications company. [ Source: Bloomberg (Read More…) ]

Study: Economic Boom Largely Ignored as TV’s Trump Coverage Hits 92% Negative

(Worthy News) – In four weeks, Americans go to the polls for the midterm elections that the news media are casting as a referendum on the Trump presidency. Over the summer, the broadcast networks have continued to pound Donald Trump and his team with the most hostile coverage of a President in TV news history — 92 percent negative, vs. just eight percent positive.

For this report, MRC analysts reviewed all 1,007 evening news stories (1,960 minutes of airtime) about the Trump administration on ABC, CBS and NBC from June 1 to September 30, tallying the coverage of each topic and all evaluative comments made by anchors, reporters and non-partisan sources (such as voters or experts).

The results show that, over the past four months, nearly two-thirds of evening news coverage of the Trump presidency has been focused on just five main topics: the Russia investigation; immigration policy; the Kavanaugh nomination; North Korea diplomacy; and U.S. relations with Russia. The networks’ coverage of all of these topics has been highly negative, while bright spots for the administration such as the booming economy received extremely little coverage (less than one percent of the four-month total). Michael Near Category 3 Strength as it Heads Towards Florida

(Worthy News) – Hurricane warnings and storm surge warnings are flying for much of the Florida Panhandle and Big Bend region as a steadily intensifying Hurricane Michael steams northward at 12 mph over the warm waters of the Eastern Gulf of Mexico. Michael is expected to make landfall in the Florida Panhandle on Wednesday afternoon as a Category 3 hurricane.

Multiple hurricane hunter aircraft were in Michael on Tuesday morning, and reported that Michael had reached high-end Category 2 strength, with 110 mph winds and a central pressure of 965 mb. The hurricane hunter data showed that Michael had an unusual structure for a hurricane of this strength. Two of the three center fixes between 6 am – 8 am reported that no eyewall was present, with numerous spiral bands forming a ragged boundary for the 35-mile diameter eye. The eye was elliptical and not very warm—just 2 – 3°C warmer than the air just outside the eye. All of these factors suggested that Michael was having trouble with moderately high wind shear of 15 – 20 knots driving dry air into its core.

Michael was bringing heavy rains to the Florida Keys and western Cuba, as seen on Key West and Cuban radar. NHC was calling for storm-total rainfall amounts of 4 – 8” over western Cuba, with isolated totals of 12”. Rainfall amounts of 2 – 4” were predicted for the Florida Keys and 1 -2” for Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula. The highest 24-hour rainfall amounts over the past two days in western Cuba were near 8”, according to INSMET. [ Source: Weather Underground (Read More…) ]
