(Worthy News) – Islamic State fighters trapped in Syria are putting up fierce resistance, using civilians as human shields, setting deadly booby traps, and hiding in underground tunnels, all the while frustrating efforts by U.S.-backed Syrian fighters to deal a final blow to the terrorist caliphate.

It’s been six months since the start of “Operation Roundup,” an offensive designed to liberate the last swath of territory held by ISIS in the Middle Euphrates River Valley, or MERV, near Syria’s eastern border with Iraq.

(Worthy News) – U.S. health officials on Tuesday reported a jump in cases of a rare paralyzing illness in children, and said it seems to be following an every-other-year pattern.

At least 62 cases have been confirmed in 22 states this year, and at least 65 additional illnesses in those states are being investigated, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Similar waves of the same illness occurred in 2014 and 2016.

CDC officials say they haven’t found the cause. Some possible suspects, such as polio and West Nile virus, have been ruled out. Another kind of virus is suspected, but it’s been found in only some of the cases. [ Source: AP (Read More…) ]

(Worthy News) – This year’s U.S. congressional campaign season is on pace to break fundraising records, driven in part by unprecedented hauls by at least five candidates from both major parties, according to a Reuters analysis of campaign finance disclosures.

Candidates for the House of Representatives have collectively raised $1.2 billion from January 2017 through the end of September, more than the inflation-adjusted $1 billion record set at this point in the 2010 election cycle, according to Federal Election Commission data.

Senate candidates – who have six years to raise funds due to their longer terms – have raised more than $950 million, surpassing the $844 million raised during the same period ahead of the 2010 election. [ Source: Reuters (Read More…) ]

(Worthy News) – The FBI initiated an investigation in March 2017 concerning an alleged, previously unreported media leak about President Trump and former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn — and since-fired FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe was a witness in the probe, newly released documents publicly posted by the FBI show.

McCabe was fired in March just before his planned retirement by Attorney General Jeff Sessions, following a review by the DOJ’s internal watchdog that found McCabe “repeatedly” lied to investigators about his knowledge of leaks to the Wall Street Journal regarding the agency’s probe into the Clinton Foundation. In reality, McCabe had authorized a series of leaks, according to the DOJ’s Inspector General, and he reportedly is under a grand jury investigation to determine if any criminal wrongdoing took place.

Monday’s document release by the FBI suggested McCabe may have had some knowledge about an additional leak that was not previously disclosed, even though McCabe was not a subject of the leak investigation. (Worthy News) – Christians are continuing to share the Gospel even in highly dangerous areas in the Middle East where the Islamic State terror group remains on the minds of the people.

William, a Christian ministry worker who for years has been serving various countries in Central Asia and the Middle East, said in a webinar with persecution watchdog group Open Doors USA last week that even though IS fighters have been defeated throughout Iraq and Syria, dangers remain.

Box Office Mojo revealed that the pro-life movie took in over $1,235,000 at the box office in the first three days of the release, ending up at No. 10 at the box office.

The story highlights the investigation, arrest, and trial of Gosnell, who in 2013 was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter in the death of one patient and of three first-degree murder charges for the deaths of three babies at the abortion clinic he operated in West Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. “Just spoke with the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia who totally denied any knowledge of what took place in their Turkish Consulate,” Trump tweeted.

(Worthy News) – The White House’s peace plan entails intentions to unify the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, Jason Greenblatt, US President Donald Trump’s special envoy to the Middle East, told Ynet on Tuesday.

Palestinian media outlets claim that a key element of the yet-unreleased US peace plan is separating the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip from the Fatah-ruled Palestinian Authority in the West Bank.

“Let’s be clear about something: Gaza and the West Bank have been separated for 10 years, not only physically, but politically—between the Palestinian Authority and Hamas. It’s absurd to deny that reality,” said Greenblatt, who has been working on the plan for the past 19 months alongside senior administration officials, including Jared Kushner, a senior adviser and son-in-law of President Trump.

“In contrast, our peace plan intends to bring them together. Make no mistake; we are in this to help all Palestinians, in both the West Bank and Gaza. The type of disinformation being spread by some parties who have not even seen the plan yet wish to be spoilers does nothing to benefit ordinary Palestinian lives,” he added. (Worthy News) – Organizers of the annual Davos conference ranked the United States first in their ranking of the world’s most competitive economies for the first time in a decade Wednesday, saying the No. 1 spot reflects a new methodology and long-term factors more than recent policies of the Trump administration.

The World Economic Forum said its “Global Competitiveness Report” is based on nearly 100 separate factors in a dozen categories that have been reworked slightly to better reflect today’s rapidly changing, increasingly digitized world economy.

The U.S. is followed by Singapore, Germany, Switzerland and Japan in the top five spots among the 140 economies considered. (Worthy News) – The Trump administration is formally notifying Congress that it plans to pursue trade agreements with the European Union, Japan and Britain.

The announcement comes two weeks after the administration reached a deal with Canada and Mexico to rewrite the North American Free Trade Agreement.

Late last month, the United States and Japan announced that they would open trade negotiations. And in July, President Donald Trump reached a somewhat vague agreement to begin talks to reduce trade barriers with the EU.
