U.S. warns Russia with ‘extraordinary flight’ over Ukraine

(Worthy News) – Blasting Russia’s “dangerous escalation” in the region, U.S. planes on Thursday conducted an “extraordinary flight” over Ukraine in what Pentagon officials cast as a blunt warning to Moscow.

The flights come as a direct response to last week’s incident in the Kerch Strait, which saw Russian forces fire on Ukrainian vessels and take their crews hostage. The events sparked an international uproar and led President Trump to cancel a planned meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin at last week’s G20 Summit.

In a statement on Thursday, the Defense Department said the flights were designed to send a clear message.

“Today, the United States and allies conducted an extraordinary flight under the Open Skies Treaty. The timing of this flight is intended to reaffirm U.S. commitment to Ukraine and other partner nations,” the Pentagon said in a statement. “The United States is resolute in our support for the security of European nations.” [ Source: Washington Times (Read More…) ]

Christian Groups Fight Back Against Austin, Texas City Code That Could Force Churches to Hire LGBTQ Employees

(Worthy News) – Churches in Austin, Texas may soon be forced to hire homosexual and transgender employees, including pastors, if a city ordinance is implemented.

The city says it guarantees “the opportunity for each person to obtain employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age or disability.”

The Houston-based US Pastor Council and the Texas Values organization is suing the city in federal court over the code. Both groups argue that the ordinance forces churches to go against their biblical beliefs and does not include a religious exemption for churches in Austin that refuse to hire homosexual or transgender people as employees, including pastors. US Navy sends aircraft carrier to Persian Gulf in display of force after Iran’s ballistic missile test

(Worthy News) – Following Iran’s brazen nuclear-capable ballistic missile test over the weekend, the U.S. is deploying an aircraft carrier to the region.

USS John C. Stennis and its support ships are en route to the Persian Gulf in the first U.S. military activity in the region in some eight months, a presence intended to act as a show of force against Iran, The Wall Street Journal reported Monday.

A carrier has not been deployed to the region since the USS Theodore Roosevelt departed in March, leaving the region unoccupied by U.S. forces for the longest period in two decades. [ Source (Read More…) ]
