Atheists Warn Schools Against Ark Encounter Field Trips – Ark Founder Calls Their Bluff in a Big Way

(Worthy News) – A Wisconsin-based atheist group has taken aim at the Ark Encounter tourist attraction in Williamstown, Kentucky by sending a letter to more than 1,000 school districts in five states, warning them that a field trip to the Ark would be unconstitutional.

The Freedom From Religion Foundation wrote: “Public schools cannot organize trips for students to either the Creation Museum or the Ark Park. It is unacceptable to expose a captive audience of impressionable students to the overtly religious atmosphere of (Ken) Ham’s Christian theme parks.”

“I would like to see some public schools and public parks to stand up to them and not succumb to their bullying and intimidation,” Ham said. “Because the FFRF has sent letters to 1,000 school districts, I’m offering them free admission for the teachers, students who come on an official public school trip.”

“And if they do sue them, we have expert attorneys who are willing to defend them in court and I’d like to see a test case go to the Supreme Court and stop this nonsense from these atheist groups who try to outlaw Christian influence in this nation,” he added. [ Source: CBN News (Read More…) ]

Satellite images reveals extensive damage from IAF strike in Syria

(Worthy News) – Israeli satellite company ImageSat International released Monday images of the extensive damage caused to the ammunition warehouse at the Damascus international Airport following an Israeli airstrike on Friday night.

ImageSat estimates that the arms depot contained Iranian Fajr-5 missiles, among others. The satellite images show the complete destruction of the warehouse, with three craters formed where the military compound once stood.

Near the airstrike site, headquarters facilities and aircraft can be seen, which Syria said were damaged after being hit by shrapnel. [ Source: YNet News (Read More…) ]

6 in 10 Americans want Roe v. Wade changed to allow abortion restrictions: poll

(Worthy News) – More than six in 10 Americans say they want the U.S. Supreme Court’s landmark abortion ruling Roe v. Wade to be reinterpreted to allow additional restrictions on abortion, a new survey has found.

A new survey of over 1,066 adults aged 18 and older conducted last week and released on Tuesday asked participants what they would want to happen if the Supreme Court one day reconsiders the 1973 ruling, a possibility that some abortion advocates fear with the slight conservative majority of the bench.

The question posed is one of the newest questions asked of respondents to an 11th-annual Marist Institute for Public Opinion poll conducted for the Catholic fraternal organization Knights of Columbus on abortion rights. [ Source: Christian Post (Read More…) ]

Iran satellite launch fails after U.S. warning

(Worthy News) – Iran’s bid to launch a satellite has failed, Telecoms Minister Mohammad Javad Azari-Jahromi said on Tuesday, after it ignored U.S. warnings to avoid such activity.

Washington warned Tehran this month against undertaking three planned rocket launches that it said would violate a U.N. Security Council resolution because they use ballistic missile technology.

The United States is concerned that the long-range ballistic technology used to put satellites into orbit can also be used to launch warheads. [ Source: Reuters (Read More…) ]

House Democrats vow to repeal ban on federal funding for abortions

(Worthy News) – Democratic House members vowed Tuesday to repeal a ban on federal funding for abortions and to fight against actions by the Trump administration to limit access to contraception.

“I believe that for the first time, maybe in our nation’s history, we actually have a pro-choice majority in the U.S. House of Representatives,” Rep. Diana DeGette, D-Colo., said at a press conference.

Standing beside Planned Parenthood’s president, Dr. Leana Wen, lawmakers who belong to the caucus defending abortion rights, known as the Pro-Choice Caucus, said they planned to pass the Each Woman Act, a bill that would undo a longstanding ban on federal funding for abortion. The ban, known as the Hyde Amendment, prevents federal dollars from going toward abortions except in the cases of rape, incest, or if a woman’s pregnancy threatens her life. Support for Trump’s wall reaches all-time high: Poll

(Worthy News) – Support for President Trump’s wall along the U.S.-Mexico border is at an all-time high weeks into a partial government shutdown that began over a border security dispute for funding.

According to the results of an ABC News and Washington Post poll released Sunday morning, 42 percent of Americans support a wall. That is up from 34 percent one year ago and a previous high of 37 percent in 2017.

With 54 percent, the majority of Americans polled still oppose building a border wall. However, that opposition is shrinking, as 63 percent opposed the wall a year ago and the previous low was 60 percent two years ago. [ Source: Washington Examiner (Read More…) ]

Shutdown shrinks as thousands more employees called in to work without pay

(Worthy News) – Thousands of aviation safety inspectors and hundreds of food, drug, and medical inspectors are heading back to work without pay — and so will tens of thousands of Internal Revenue Service employees if the government shutdown is still in place when tax season begins Jan. 28.

In addition, the Interior Department is bringing back dozens of furloughed employees to work on selling oil and gas drilling leases in the Gulf of Mexico — key to President Donald Trump’s priority of promoting U.S. fossil fuel production.

Meanwhile, the Environmental Protection Agency has recalled dozens of employees, according to its revised shutdown plan, days after Senate Democrats questioned how the shuttered EPA could justify making workers prepare acting Administrator Andrew Wheeler for his confirmation hearing Wednesday. And the Department of Housing and Urban Development said it is bringing back an undefined number of “additional intermittent employees as needed.” [ Source (Read More…) ]

Leaders nix recess with no shutdown deal in sight

(Worthy News) – Senate and House leaders said Tuesday they will cancel the Martin Luther King Day recess unless there is a sudden resolution to the 25-day partial government shutdown, which appears unlikely given a breakdown in high-level talks.

Senate Democratic Leader Charles Schumer (N.Y.), one of the principal negotiators, told reporters Tuesday that he hasn’t spoken to President Trump in nearly a week, underlining the standstill in negotiations.

A group of centrist House Democrats on Tuesday rejected a White House invitation to attend talks with Republicans and Trump, seeing it as an effort to divide the party. [ Source: The Hill (Read More…) ]
