Russian-made S-300 missile defense system active in Syria

(Worthy News) – The launchers of Russian-made S-300 missile defense systems deployed to Syria have been erected, new satellite images released on Tuesday showed.

The advanced S-300 would be a major upgrade to the Syrian air defenses and would pose a threat to Israeli jets on missions as the long-range missile defense system can track objects, such as aircraft and ballistic missiles, over a range of 300 kilometers.

A full battalion includes six launcher vehicles, with each vehicle carrying four missile containers for a total of 24 missiles, as well as command-and-control and long-range radar detection vehicles. [ Source: Jerusalem Post (Read More…) ]

Iran to Israel: Further Syria strikes will be met with ‘firm’ response

(Worthy News) – Iran warned Israel on Tuesday of a “firm and appropriate” response if it continued attacking targets in Syria, where Tehran has backed President Bashar Assad and his forces in their nearly eight-year war against rebels and militants.

Israel, which views Iran as its biggest security threat, has repeatedly attacked Iranian targets and those of allied militia in Syria. With an election looming in April, Israel has been increasingly open about carrying out its air strikes.

Trump: ‘Great nations do not fight endless wars’

(Worthy News) – President Trump gave an emphatic defense of his intention to conclude “endless wars,” one day after the Senate issued a warning against a “precipitous withdrawal” from Syria and Afghanistan.

“Great nations do not fight endless wars,” Trump declared during his second State of the Union address. “Our approach is based on principled realism.”

Trump has clashed with members of his administration and rattled congressional and European allies in recent months, first through an abrupt December announcement that he would withdraw U.S. forces from Syria, then with a State Department announcement of preliminary progress in a peace deal with the Taliban in Afghanistan. Senate lawmakers passed a resolution Monday warning of a potential terrorist resurgence in both countries. [ Source: Washington Examiner (Read More…) ]

(Worthy News) – President Trump during his State of the Union address Tuesday blasted Democrats for authorizing “a baby to be ripped from the mother’s womb” and allowing doctors to “execute a baby after birth,” urging Congress to pass a bill that would ban abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy.

“To defend the dignity of every person, I am asking the Congress to pass legislation to prohibit the late-term abortion of children who can feel pain in the mother’s womb,” Trump said.

With pitch for unity, Trump urges Republicans and Democrats to ‘choose greatness’

(Worthy News) – President Trump in his State of the Union address Tuesday night issued a call for unity and an end to the political divisiveness that has ensnared Washington.

“We meet tonight at a moment of unlimited potential. As we begin a new Congress, I stand here ready to work with you to achieve historic breakthroughs for all Americans,” the president said in his speech. “Millions of our fellow citizens are watching us now gathered in this great chamber hoping that we will govern not as two parties but as one nation. The agenda I will lay out this evening is not a Republican agenda or a Democrat agenda; it’s the agenda of the American people.”

Still, despite the president’s pitch for compromise, he heavily stressed the need for a wall along the southern border as vital for protecting the security of the country, an issue that has divided Republicans and Democrats and spurred the government shutdown that left parts of the government shuttered for five weeks and federal workers without pay. Trump: “America Will Never Be A Socialist Country”; “We Were Born Free And We Will Stay Free”

(Worthy News) – President Trump said the United States will never become a socialist country in his 2019 State of the Union address.

“We stand with the Venezuelan people in their noble quest for freedom — and we condemn the brutality of the Maduro regime, whose socialist policies have turned that nation from being the wealthiest in South America into a state of abject poverty and despair,” Trump said Tuesday night.

“Here, in the United States, we are alarmed by new calls to adopt socialism in our country,” the president said. “America was founded on liberty and independence – not government coercion, domination, and control. We are born free, and we will stay free.” [ Source: Real Clear Politics (Read More…) ]

Moscow Says New Missile Systems Planned To Counter U.S. By 2021

(Worthy News) – Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu says Moscow will push to develop two new land-based missile systems before 2021 in response to Washington’s planned exit from a landmark nuclear arms control agreement.

The U.S. withdrawal from the Cold War-era Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty came after Washington repeatedly accused Moscow of violating the accord, which bans both countries from stationing short- and intermediate-range land-based missiles in Europe.

On February 1, U.S. President Donald Trump said Washington was starting a process to withdraw from the 1987 treaty within six months. [ Source: Radio Free Europe (Read More…) ]
