Hundreds Of IS Members, Families Surrender In Final Syrian Enclave

(Worthy News) – Hundreds of Islamic State (IS) militants and family members surrendered as U.S.-backed Syrian rebel forces moved closer to crushing the militants in their final sliver of territory in the eastern part of the country.

“Around 1,300 terrorists and their families surrendered to our forces today amid our operations against the terrorist Daesh organization,” Mustafa Bali, a spokesman for the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), said in a tweet on March 14, using an alternate name for IS.

The SDF, a Kurdish-led rebel force backed by U.S.-led coalition air support, moved closer to its goal of wiping out the last vestiges of the militants’ so-called “caliphate” that once sprawled across Syria and neighboring Iraq. [ Source: Radio Free Europe (Read More…) ]

Violence in Kaduna Continues, Hundreds Killed

(Worthy News) – Fighting has led to hundreds deaths in Kaduna State recently. The attacks began on February 10 with 11 people being killed in the village of Ungwan Barde. After this, Governor El-Rufai reported on an attack on a Fulani Herdsmen village. During this attack, he first reported that 66 people were killed. Then a few days later he reported that the number was up to 131. After this on February 26, 38 people were killed in Karamai. Two weeks later on March 10, 35 more people were killed in attacks on the Ungwan Barde community again. The very next day, another 46 people were killed in Anguwan Gamu village, where 100 houses were also burned down.

The only attack that the state government has mentioned is the attack on the Fulani community. Other local village leaders have refuted the claims of this attack. Despite this, it was not until the latest attacks that the state government finally instituted a state of emergency and curfew. As of now there have been no arrests for any of the attacks.

These continued attacks have again proven that the Nigerian government is completely unconcerned and unequipped to deal with this major conflict. If they do not stop this from continuing, there is going to be grave consequences for Nigeria as a whole. [ Source: International Christian Concern (Read More…) ]

Boko Haram Attacks Christian Village, Destroys Church

(Worthy News) – International Christian Concern (ICC) has learned that earlier today, around 6:00 a.m., Boko Haram insurgents launched an attack on Ngurhlavu village of Lassa in Askira-Uba local council area of southern Borno State. Most of the villagers were able to flee into the bush, but the insurgents burned down six homes, destroyed the EYN Church (Church of the Brethren), killed one person, and abducted two sisters, Stella Ibrahim and Plungwa Ibrahim.

Recalling the attack, a senior executive of the EYN Church, who wished to remain anonymous, said that their local pastor called around 6:00 a.m. to report the attack. He shared, “I could hear desperation in his voice, just coming out of the bush. His voice sounded completely demoralized as he was saying only God… We don’t know what else to do! There’s no security presence here.” The insurgents dropped a concealed improvised explosive device which a church member named Avi Lassa stepped on. Avi was killed on the spot.

Lamenting the spate of repeated, violent attacks, the senior church leader said, “These frequent attacks on churches and [their] members are really weighing us down. These attacks seem to be escalating soon after the elections.” Nigeria’s presidential elections took place in late February, but has seen violence even in the build-up to Election Day. Exxon Eyes Israel Gas Bid in Major Middle East Shift

(Worthy News) – Exxon Mobil Corp is considering exploring for oil and gas in Israel, said a person with direct knowledge of the matter, in what would make Exxon the first oil major to operate in the country still technically at war with Gulf Arab states.

A number of large gas discoveries offshore Israel and in nearby eastern Mediterranean waters in the last decade have made Israel a potentially lucrative prospect for big energy firms. The region is emerging as a new hot spot for gas exploration and production.

Until those discoveries, Israel was believed to be sitting on scant oil and gas reserves. There was little reason for energy firms to explore for energy in Israel and risk complicating operations and future investments in nearby Arab countries that hold some of the world’s largest energy reserves. ‘A Real Blessing’: Archaeologists Unearth Rare 1,700 Year Inscription and Church in Israeli Desert

(Worthy News) – German and Israeli scientists discovered a 1700-year-old stone bearing the name of a city believed to be the possible location of an ancient biblical town.

The Greek inscription refers to the city of Elusa (Halutza in Hebrew) and was discovered during excavations in Halutza National Park in the Negev desert.

“The name of the city of Elusa appears in a number of historical documents and contexts, including the Madaba mosaic map, the Nessana papyri and other historical references. However, this is the first time that the name of the city has been discovered in the site itself. The inscription mentions several Caesars of the tetrarchy which allow to date it around 300 CE,” the Israel Antiquities Authority said Wednesday in a press release. [ Source: CBN News (Read More…) ]

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern described it as “one of New Zealand’s darkest days” and said the events in the city of Christchurch represented “an extraordinary and unprecedented act of violence.”

One person was taken into custody but it was unclear if there were other people involved, Police Commissioner Mike Bush said. He said anybody who was thinking of going to a mosque anywhere in New Zealand on Friday should stay put. [ Source: Fox News (Read More…) ]

Pelosi backs lowering voting age to 16

(Worthy News) – House Speaker Nancy Pelosi told reporters Thursday she believes the voting age should be lowered from 18 to 16.

The House last week defeated an amendment to a voting and campaign finance bill that would have lowered the legal voting age in federal elections to 16.

“I myself have always been for lowering the voter age to 16,” said Pelosi, D-Calif. “I think it’s really important to capture kids when they are in high school when they are interested in all of this, when they are learning about government, to be able to vote.” [ Source: Washington Examiner (Read More…) ]

With 420-0 vote, House calls for release of Mueller report

(Worthy News) – The House voted unanimously Thursday on a resolution that urges special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia report to be made public.

The resolution is non-binding and cannot compel the Justice Department to make the report public, but the 420-0 vote puts some pressure on newly appointed Attorney General William Barr.

“This report must see the light of day, must be available to the American public for a catharsis that will allow us to start with the facts, understand what happened and begin to rebuild the faith of the American people,” said Rep. Jim Himes, D-Conn., a senior member of the House intelligence committee. [ Source: UPI (Read More…) ]

Secret Mossad files show underground Iran nuke facility older than admitted

(Worthy News) – New evidence disclosed in Iran’s secret nuclear files taken by the Mossad show that its underground Fordow nuclear facility is older than it has admitted, according to a think-tank report.

This discovery could be significant, says the Institute for Science and International Security, because it shows that Iran is still lying to the international community about a nuclear facility that has no reasonable use other than military.

The report says that photographs and documents it reviewed from the materials taken from Iran in January 2018 by the Mossad date the facility to as much as five years earlier than the Islamic Republic has led the world to believe. [ Source: Jerusalem Post (Read More…) ]

British Lawmakers to Seek 3-Month Brexit Delay

(Worthy News) – British lawmakers voted Thursday to seek a three-month delay in Britain’s scheduled March 29 split from the 28-nation European Union after overwhelmingly voting against holding a new Brexit referendum.

The House of Commons voted 412-202 to seek the delay after being unable in several votes this week to muster a majority for an exit plan.

The vote to delay calls on Prime Minister Theresa May to seek an extension from the EU until June 30. The lawmakers have already twice rejected her plans for Brexit, but by law, Britain will leave the EU on March 29 with or without a deal, unless it cancels Brexit or secures the delay.
