Nigerian Christians Under Siege: Attacks Claim 120 Lives Since February

(Worthy News) – At least 120 people have been killed in a series of alleged attacks by the Fulani militia on Christian communities in the Adara chiefdom of southern Kaduna in Nigeria since February, according to the nonprofit group Christian Solidarity Worldwide (CSW).

The organization reported 52 people were killed and 100 homes were destroyed last Monday in the latest attacks on Inkirimi and Dogonnoma villages in Maro, Kajuru Local Government Area (LGA). The victims included women and children.

Survivors of the attack told CSW that their assailants divided into three groups. One group shot and killed people, another set fire to homes as people ran away, and the third waited in the bush to intercept fleeing villagers. [ Source: CBN News (Read More…) ]

Historic floods hit Nebraska after ‘bomb cyclone’ storm

(Worthy News) – Large parts of Nebraska and the U.S. Central Plains were underwater on Saturday after a late-winter ‘bomb cyclone’ storm triggered historic flooding along the Missouri and Platte rivers, causing two deaths, tearing apart homes and swallowing roadways.

“We’re looking at widespread flooding that continues until at least early next week in the Plains and Midwest region,” said meteorologist Marc Chenard with the service’s Weather Prediction Center.

“The big ones are at record stages right now,” Chenard said. “There have been some levy breaks so there are towns that are flooded.” [ Source: Reuters (Read More…) ]

Iran Executes Massive Drone Exercise With the Code Name ‘Towards Jerusalem’

(Worthy News) – Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) reportedly launched a massive military drone exercise codenamed “Towards Jerusalem 1.”

Iran’s Sepahnews reported Thursday that the military flew about 50 “offensive and combat” drones on Bani Farur Island in the Persian Gulf. The drones were modeled after a US-made RQ-170 Sentinel stealth drone Iran captured in 2011.

The drones allegedly took off from bases as far as 1,000 kilometers (621 miles) away and successfully bombed a single target at the same time. The drill was the first time Iran’s military operated that number of drones simultaneously. [ Source: CBN News (Read More…) ]

Trump Vetoes Resolution Revoking His National Emergency Declaration

(Worthy News) – President Donald Trump on Friday issued his first veto blocking the Democrat-sponsored resolution against his national emergency declaration to build the border wall, calling it a “vote against reality.”

“Yesterday, Congress passed a dangerous resolution that if signed into law would put countless Americans in danger – very grave danger. The Democrat-sponsored resolution would terminate vital border security operations by revoking the national emergency issued last month. It is definitely a national emergency,” he said during a signing ceremony in the Oval Office attended by members of law enforcement and families who lost loved ones to criminal aliens.

“Rarely have we had a national emergency. Therefore, to defend the safety and security of all Americans, I will be signing and issuing a formal veto of this reckless resolution, and that’s what it was,” the president said. He also thanked the Republicans who voted against the resolution. [ Source: CNS News (Read More…) ]

Russia Vows To Respond To Fresh EU Sanctions

(Worthy News) – The Russian Foreign Ministry has announced Moscow will respond to fresh sanction action by the European Union.

The EU, along with the United States and Canada, on March 15 imposed new sanctions to punish Russia for its 2018 attack on three Ukrainian naval vessels as well as its annexation of Crimea and its support for separatists and other actions in eastern Ukraine.

“The decision of the Council of the European Union shows disrespect for the Russian Federation’s right to ensure protection of its state border,” the Russian Foreign Ministry was quoted as saying by Interfax on March 16. [ Source: Radio Free Europe (Read More…) ]

Likud MK: Netanyahu ready to conquer Gaza before elections ‘if need be’

(Worthy News) – A lawmaker from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s Likud Party said on Saturday that Israel was prepared to launch a military offensive in the Gaza Strip ahead of upcoming general elections “if need be,” as the premier continued to take flak from figures across the political spectrum over his handling of violence against Israel from the Palestinian territory.

Political rivals have charged that Israel has lost its deterrence vis-a-vis the Gaza-ruling Hamas terror group in recent years under Netanyahu, who faced considerable criticism after two rockets were fired from the coastal enclave on Thursday night toward Tel Aviv for the first time since the 2014 war.

Israel said it struck some 100 targets in Gaza as a response to the launch of the two rockets, which the army has assessed were “accidentally” fired by low-level Hamas operatives, and a ceasefire was reported to have gone into effect Friday morning. [ Source: Times of Israel (Read More…) ]

May asks MPs for ‘honourable compromises’ to back Brexit deal

(Worthy News) – Prime Minister Theresa May today asked Britain’s MPs to “stand together as democrats and patriots” to back her Brexit deal.

Writing in the Telegraph, May lent heavily on the prospect that delays to Brexit could force Britain to vote in May’s European Parliament election as a reason why the House of Commons must support her deal.

After parliament last week rejected leaving the EU without a deal and declined to support a second public vote on Brexit, May is undertaking a last-ditch push to convince MPs to back her Brexit deal at the third time of asking, in a vote this week. [ Source: Politico (Read More…) ]

U.S.-backed force says it has taken positions in Islamic State Syria camp

(Worthy News) – U.S.-backed fighters have taken positions in Islamic State’s last enclave in eastern Syria, they said late on Sunday, after pounding the tiny patch of land by the banks of the Euphrates.

Backed by air power and special forces from a U.S.-led coalition, the SDF has pushed Islamic State from almost the entire northeastern corner of Syria, defeating it in Raqqa in 2017 and driving it to its last enclave at Baghouz last year.

However, while its defeat at Baghouz will end its control of populated land in the third of Syria and Iraq that it captured in 2014, the group will remain a threat, regional and Western officials say. [ Source (Read More…) ]

Poll shows Likud overtaking Blue and White, for first time in weeks

(Worthy News) – The Likud party narrowly edged past its key election rival, the Blue and White party, and was predicted to win the most Knesset seats in the coming elections, according to an opinion poll published Sunday by the Kan public broadcaster.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s right-wing party would win 31 seats if elections were held today, the online survey of 583 respondents found. Blue and White, led by ex-army chief Benny Gantz, would win 30 seats, according to the poll.

It marked the first time that Likud has come out on top in a poll since Blue and White was formed last month, when Gantz merged his Israel Resilience party with the Yesh Atid party led by MK Yair Lapid. The alliance also includes the Telem party, which was formed by former defense minister Moshe Ya’alon. [ Source: Times of Israel (Read More…) ]
