Trump Administration Awards $1.7 Mil Family Planning Grant to Pro-Life Clinics, Cuts Funding to Four Abortion Clinics

(Worthy News) – On Friday, the Trump administration announced it was awarding a $1.7 million family planning grant to a chain of California crisis pregnancy centers that oppose abortion and don’t offer contraceptives, while at the same time cutting government funding to some Planned Parenthood clinics.

The news website The Hill reports the Obria Group will receive the grant and signals the administration’s desire to shift family planning funds toward faith-based groups that oppose abortion and away from groups like Planned Parenthood.

“Many women want the opportunity to visit a professional, comprehensive health care facility — not an abortion clinic — for their health care needs; this grant will give them that choice,” Kathleen Eaton Bravo, founder, and CEO of The Obria Group, said in a statement. More than 1 million acres of U.S. cropland ravaged by floods

(Worthy News) – At least 1 million acres (405,000 hectares) of U.S. farmland were flooded after the ‘bomb cyclone’ storm left wide swaths of nine major grain producing states under water this month, satellite data analyzed by Gro Intelligence for Reuters showed.

Farms from the Dakotas to Missouri and beyond have been under water for a week or more, possibly impeding planting and damaging soil. The floods, which came just weeks before planting season starts in the Midwest, will likely reduce corn, wheat and soy production this year.

Spring floods could yet impact an even bigger area of cropland. The U.S. government’s National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration has warned of what could be an “unprecedented flood season” as it forecasts heavy spring rains. Rivers may swell further as a deep snow pack in northern growing areas melts. [ Source (Read More…) ]

3rd Nigerian Church Leader Kidnapped in 2 Weeks

(Worthy News) – Two Nigerian Christian church leaders were kidnapped on March 25th following the discovery of the body of a Catholic priest who had been the victim of kidnapping two weeks ago.

Reverend Emmanuel Haruna of the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) was taken at gunpoint from his church in Nasarawa State after he went outside to search for phone service.

“Please pray for his safety and release,” an ECWA spokesman asked supporters.

In 2016 Haruna spoke out against the frequent kidnappings and raids perpetrated against rural Christian communities by Muslim Fulani herdsmen.

“Fulani herdsmen take their cattle to farms of our church members and destroy their crops, and security agents have not been able to take measures to stop them,” he lamented in a Morning Star News article.

It is estimated by the United Nations Centre for Peace and Disarmament that of the 500 million illegal weapons that flooded into West Africa after the Libyan crisis in 2011, 350 million (70%) ended up in Nigeria, supplying the predominantly Muslim herders with added teeth in their campaign against Christian farmers.

Open Doors gives Nigeria the highest rating for violence in its score system for Christian persecution.

Trump Seeks to Cut Foreign Aid to 3 Central American Nations

(Worthy News) – Taking drastic action over illegal immigration, President Donald Trump moved Saturday to cut direct aid to El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras, whose citizens are fleeing north and overwhelming U.S. resources at the southern border.

The State Department notified Congress that it would look to suspend 2017 and 2018 payments to the trio of nations, which have been home to some of the migrant caravans that have marched through Mexico to the U.S. border.

Amplified by conservative media, Trump has turned the caravans into the symbol of what he says are the dangers of illegal immigration — a central theme of his midterm campaigning last fall. With the special counsel’s Russia probe seemingly behind him, Trump has revived his warnings of the caravans’ presence. [ Source: CBN News (Read More…) ]

Abbas: U.S. to allow Israel to annex parts of West Bank, give Hamas Gaza

(Worthy News) – The Trump Administration will allow Israel to annex portions of the West Bank and split the Gaza Strip from the West Bank so that it can be a state of its own, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas said on Sunday.

Speaking at the Arab League summit in Tunisia, “What is coming from the US is more dangerous and serious,” he said. “The US will tell Israel, annex part of the Palestinian lands and grant self-rule to what’s left of the land, and give the Gaza Strip a state so that Hamas can play there.

“The US administration’s decision is to destroy the Arab Peace Plan and constitutes a dramatic change from the positions of previous US administrations,” Abbas continued. [ Source: Jerusalem Post (Read More…) ]

Brexit in meltdown: Theresa May under pressure to forge softer divorce deal

(Worthy News) – Britain’s exit from the European Union was in disarray after the implosion of Prime Minister Theresa May’s Brexit strategy left her under pressure from rival factions to leave without a deal, go for an election or forge a much softer divorce.

After one of the most tumultuous weeks in British politics since the 2016 referendum, it was still uncertain how, when or even if the United Kingdom will ever leave the bloc it first joined 46 years ago.

A third defeat of May’s divorce deal, after her pledge to quit if it was passed, left one of the weakest leaders in a generation grappling with a perilous crisis over Brexit, the United Kingdom’s most significant move since World War Two. [ Source: Reuters (Read More…) ]

Arab League unites against Trump’s Israel policy

(Worthy News) – Leaders meeting in Tunisia for the annual Arab League summit on Sunday were united in their condemnation of Trump administration policies seen as unfairly biased toward Israel but divided on a host of other issues, including whether to readmit founding member Syria.

This year’s summit comes against a backdrop of ongoing wars in Syria and Yemen, rival authorities in Libya and a lingering boycott of Qatar by four fellow League members. Algeria’s President Abdelaziz Bouteflika and Sudan’s President Omar al-Bashir skipped the meeting as they contend with mass protests against their long reigns.

Representatives from the 22-member league – minus Syria – aim to jointly condemn President Donald Trump’s recognition of Israeli control over the Golan Heights, which Israel seized from Syria in the 1967 war, and Trump’s decision last year to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital. Tiny First Temple find could be first proof of aide to biblical King Josiah

(Worthy News) – Two minuscule 2,600-year-old inscriptions recently uncovered in the City of David’s Givati Parking Lot excavation are vastly enlarging the understanding of ancient Jerusalem in the late 8th century BCE.

The two inscriptions, in paleo-Hebrew writing, were found separately in a large First Temple structure within the span of a few weeks by long-term team members Ayyala Rodan and Sveta Pnik.

One is a bluish agate stone seal “(belonging) to Ikkar son of Matanyahu” (LeIkkar Ben Matanyahu). The other is a clay seal impression, “(belonging) to Nathan-Melech, Servant of the King” (LeNathan-Melech Eved HaMelech). Nathan-Melech is named in 2 Kings as an official in the court of King Josiah. Arab leaders to seek U.N. Security Council resolution on Golan

(Worthy News) – Arab leaders said on Sunday they would seek a U.N. Security Council resolution against the U.S. decision to recognize Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights and promised to support Palestinians in their bid for statehood.

Arab leaders, long divided by regional rivalries, also ended their annual summit in Tunisia calling for cooperation with non-Arab Iran based on non-interference in each others’ affairs.

Arab leaders who have been grappling with a bitter Gulf Arab dispute, splits over Iran’s regional influence, the war in Yemen and unrest in Algeria and Sudan sought common ground after Washington recognized Israel’s sovereignty over the Golan. [ Source: Jerusalem Post (Read More…) ]

Tensions between the United States and Russia over Venezuela increase

(Worthy News) – The White House on Friday warned Russia, along with other countries supporting Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, against sending military forces and equipment to the crisis-stricken nation.

Washington — which supports opposition party leader Juan Guaidó — would view the move as a “direct threat to security in the region,” according to national security adviser John Bolton.

“We strongly caution actors external to the Western Hemisphere against deploying military assets to Venezuela, or elsewhere in the Hemisphere, with the intent of establishing or expanding military operations,” Bolton said.

“We will consider such provocative actions as a direct threat to international peace and security in the region. We will continue to defend and protect the interests of the United States, and those of our partners in the Western Hemisphere,” he said. [ Source: The Hill (Read More…) ]
