Trump, Pelosi agree to huddle on bipartisan infrastructure package

(Worthy News) – In a political climate thick with gridlock, there might be some compromise in the near future.

White House deputy press secretary Judd Deere tells the Washington Examiner that President Trump and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., have agreed to meet for a discussion on a bipartisan effort to improve infrastructure across the United States.

White House Looking at Sending Undocumented Migrants to Sanctuary Cities

(Worthy News) – The White House on Sunday, echoing President Donald Trump, said sending undocumented migrants to sanctuary U.S. cities that have protected them from deportation remains a possibility even though government agencies have said it would be impractical and there is no money allocated to do it.

“We certainly are looking at all options as long as (opposition) Democrats refuse to acknowledge the crisis at the border,” White House press secretary Sarah Sanders told the “Fox News Sunday” show.

Trump said late Saturday on Twitter, “Democrats must change the Immigration Laws FAST. If not, Sanctuary Cities must immediately ACT to take care of the Illegal Immigrants – and this includes Gang Members, Drug Dealers, Human Traffickers, and Criminals of all shapes, sizes and kinds. CHANGE THE LAWS NOW!” [ Source: VOA News (Read More…) ]

France’s ‘Yellow Vest’ Protesters Take to the Streets for the 22nd Straight Weekend

(Worthy News) – France’s Yellow Vest protesters took to the streets for a 22nd straight Saturday, leading to clashes with police in the southwestern city of Toulouse, while the capital remained calm.

Police used tear gas and water cannon in Toulouse to keep demonstrators out of the center of the city, French television showed. Parts of Paris and some regional cities were declared off limits to protesters following an eruption of violence last month, when anarchists sacked and burned stores and restaurants on the Champs-Elysees.

Around 31,000 Yellow Vests turned out across France, including about 5,000 in Paris, according to Interior Ministry figures cited by AFP, up from about 22,300 last Saturday. [ Source: Time (Read More…) ]

Trump White House braces for full Mueller report

(Worthy News) – While most of official Washington is on edge ahead of the expected release of special counsel Robert Mueller’s full report, Trump White House aides are shrugging off the fevered anticipation with a simple message: been there, done that.

Several of President Donald Trump’s aides conceded that the nearly 400-page report, which Attorney General William Barr has said he’s aiming to release this coming week, will likely include new details about Trump’s behavior that are at a minimum embarrassing.

But they believe they have a powerful shield against renewed Democratic outrage and media scrutiny in the form of the principal conclusions Barr highlighted in a four-page letter three weeks ago—namely that Trump’s 2016 campaign did not collude with the Russian government, nor is there sufficient evidence to prove that Trump obstructed justice. Trump, Kim tease third North Korea summit

(Worthy News) – President Donald Trump tweeted Saturday that a third summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un “would be good,” writing glowingly of his relationship with the despot and adding that he anticipates the day the repressive state becomes “one of the most successful nations” on Earth.

“I agree with Kim Jong Un of North Korea that our personal relationship remains very good, perhaps the term excellent would be even more accurate, and that a third Summit would be good in that we fully understand where we each stand,” Trump wrote online just before 8 a.m. in Washington.

“North Korea has tremendous potential for… extraordinary growth, economic success and riches under the leadership of Chairman Kim,” the president continued. “I look forward to the day, which could be soon, when Nuclear Weapons and Sanctions can be removed, and then watching North Korea become one of the most successful nations of the World!” [ Source: Politico (Read More…) ]

Trade agreement ahead? Treasury’s Mnuchin says China talks near ‘final round’

(Worthy News) – The nearly yearlong trade war between the U.S. and China that raised the prices on billions of dollars’ worth of Chinese goods may be nearing an end.

Treasury Secretary Stephen Mnuchin said Saturday that the U.S. and China were close to finishing their trade talks and indicated that a deal could be announced soon. Trump administration officials have been involved in ongoing talks with their Beijing counterparts to reach a deal.

“I think we’re hopeful that we’re getting close to the final round of concluding issues,” Mnuchin told reporters Saturday in Washington, D.C. He said administration officials, including U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer, would have a pair of conference calls this week with Chinese negotiators to clear up the remaining issues and that they were “discussing whether more in-person meetings are necessary.” [ Source: Washington Examiner (Read More…) ]

Pompeo says PM’s West Bank sovereignty vow won’t hurt Trump peace plan

(Worthy News) – US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Friday said he did not believe Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s talk of extending Israeli sovereignty to West Bank settlements would hurt the Trump administration’s long-gestating peace plan.

His comments would appear to indicate that the US plan does not provide for Palestinian statehood, or even for Palestinian control of substantive contiguous territory in the West Bank.

Asked during a CNN interview by anchor Jake Tapper whether he thought Netanyahu “vowing to annex the West Bank” could hurt the US proposal, Pompeo answered “I don’t.” [ Source: Times of Israel (Read More…) ]

Iranian forces said killed in reported Israel airstrike on Syria missile factory

(Worthy News) – A number of Iranian forces were reportedly killed in an airstrike on a Syrian military position near the city of Masyaf in western Hama province overnight Friday-Saturday. Syrian state media said Israeli jets carried out the raid in the middle of the night, firing missiles while flying in Lebanese airspace.

Syria’s official state news agency SANA said Israel targeted a military site in the area, but that Syrian air defenses intercepted the attack, downing some of the missiles fired. The regime mouthpiece said the interception resulted in the destruction of several buildings and the wounding of three “fighters.” The area is known to house Iranian forces and their Lebanese proxy, Hezbollah.

According to a report by the London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights in Arabic, Iranian “elements” and pro-Iranian militants were killed in the alleged attack, and 17 people were injured. [ Source: Times of Israel (Read More…) ]

Iraqi American Christians ask Vice President Mike Pence to block deportation of Iraqis

(Worthy News) – Chaldeans and elected officials in metro Detroit are asking the U.S. government to block the deportations of up to 1,000 Iraqi nationals.

After a federal appeals court last week ruled against the Iraqis in a lawsuit filed by the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), Iraqi American Christians and their supporters in Congress and the Michigan Legislature are mobilizing to lobby the Department of Homeland Security to halt the removal of Iraqis with criminal records.

The decision by the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals went into effect on Tuesday, which means many Iraqis could be deported at any time. [ Source: USA Today (Read More…) ]
