Release of long-awaited Mueller report on Russia a watershed moment for Trump

(Worthy News) – Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s long-awaited report on Russia’s role in the 2016 U.S. election will be released on Thursday, providing the first public look at the findings of an inquiry that has cast a shadow over Donald Trump’s presidency.

Attorney General William Barr’s planned release of the nearly 400-page report comes after Mueller wrapped up his 22-month investigation last month into the Trump campaign’s contacts with Russia and questions about obstruction of justice by the president.

Its disclosure, with portions expected to be blacked out by Barr to protect some sensitive information, is certain to launch a new political fight spilling into the halls of Congress and the 2020 presidential campaign trail, as Trump seeks re-election in a deeply divided country. NYPD: Man with gas cans arrested at St. Patrick’s church

(Worthy News) – Just days after flames ravaged the Notre Dame cathedral in Paris, a New Jersey man was arrested Wednesday night after entering St. Patrick’s Cathedral carrying two cans of gasoline, lighter fluid and butane lighters, according to the New York Police Department.

The unidentified 37-year-old man had pulled up in a minivan outside the landmark cathedral on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan, walked around the area, then returned to his vehicle at 7:55 p.m. and retrieved the gasoline and lighter fluid, said NYPD Deputy Commissioner of Intelligence and Counterterrorism John Miller.

“As he enters the cathedral he’s confronted by a cathedral security officer who asks him where he’s going and informs him he can’t proceed into the cathedral carrying these things,” said Miller. “At that point some gasoline apparently spills out onto the floor as he’s turned around.” [ Source: Fox News (Read More…) ]

Report: Israel used special missile in Syria attack

(Worthy News) – For the first time, Israel fired advanced Rampage stand-off air-to-surface missiles against Syria in order to overcome the advanced Russian-made S-300 interceptor, foreign media reported on Wednesday.

Israel reportedly attacked Iranian assets in a Syrian base near Hama on Saturday morning, destroying several military installations. Israel did not assume responsibility for the attack, but satellite imagery showed the aftermath of the apparent strike.

According to the foreign media reports from Wednesday, Israel used the supersonic missile Rampage, developed by the Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI). The reports said it effectively hit its intended targets, essentially neutralizing the S-300, which has been recently transferred to the Syrian military. [ Source: Israel Hayom (Read More…) ]

Pro-abortion rights group asks Supreme Court to strike Louisiana abortion restriction

(Worthy News) – The Center for Reproductive Rights on Wednesday asked the Supreme Court to throw out a Louisiana abortion restriction they say is identical to a law the justices struck down almost three years ago.

The Center for Reproductive Rights has requested for the justices to strike the law without taking it up for oral arguments, given that the case is so similar to Whole Woman’s Health v. Hellerstedt. In that decision, the Supreme Court ruled that obligating doctors who provide abortions also to have admitting privileges to local hospitals was unconstitutional because it got in the way of women having access to abortion.

If the law in Louisiana, which imposes the same requirements on doctors, is allowed to stand, then two of the three remaining clinics that provide abortion in the state are expected to close. [ Source: Washington Examiner (Read More…) ]

At another, it was down 25 percent.

Those are just two of the early reports of the impact of the movie, according to Shawn Carney, the president and CEO of 40 Days for Life. [ Source: WND (Read More…) ]

Burned black churches in Louisiana raise $1.8M after Notre Dame fire

(Worthy News) – The devastating fire at Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris led to an immediate outpouring of donations and an ambitious pledge by the French president to rebuild within five years. But a continent away, the blaze also spurred more than $1.8 million in donations to rebuild three historically black churches burned in suspected hate crimes in Louisiana.

The fires at the three churches in St. Landry Parish occurred over 10 days beginning at the end of March. Authorities said they were deliberately set and have arrested a suspect.

As of Sunday, a GoFundMe campaignseeking donations for the churches had raised only about $50,000. By Thursday morning, donations had soared to more than $1.8 million. The money is to be distributed equally among the three churches, which were all a century old. [ Source: NBC News (Read More…) ]

North Korea says it test-fired new tactical guided weapon

(Worthy News) – North Korea said Thursday that it had test-fired a new type of “tactical guided weapon,” in what may be an attempt to register displeasure with a deadlock in nuclear talks with the United States without causing those coveted negotiations to collapse.

Leader Kim Jong Un observed the unspecified weapon being fired Wednesday by the Academy of Defense Science, the North’s state-run Korean Central News Agency said. Kim was reported to have said “the development of the weapon system serves as an event of very weighty significance in increasing the combat power of the People’s Army.”

The Associated Press could not independently verify North Korea’s claim, and it wasn’t immediately clear what had been tested. [ Source: Times of Israel (Read More…) ]

Iran president urges Mideast states to ‘drive back Zionism’

(Worthy News) – Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani called on Middle East states on Thursday to “drive back Zionism,” in an Army Day tirade against the Islamic republic’s arch-foe Israel.

Speaking flanked by top general as troops paraded in a show of might, Rouhani also sought to reassure the region that the weaponry on display was for defensive purposes and not a threat.

“The region’s nations have lived alongside each other for centuries and never had a problem… If there is a problem, it is caused by others,” he said in the speech broadcast live on state television. “Let us stand together, be together and rid the region of the aggressor’s presence.” [ Source: Times of Israel (Read More…) ]
