California AG’s Planned Parenthood ties under fire in undercover pro-life investigators case

(Worthy News) – There’s no doubt that California Attorney General Xavier Becerra is a staunch pro-choice Democrat, but the question is whether he’s too close to Planned Parenthood to prosecute undercover pro-life investigators David Daleiden and Sandra Merritt.

Their effort to force Mr. Becerra to recuse himself received a boost Friday when the California Supreme Court ordered the suspension a preliminary hearing scheduled for Monday to consider their petition accusing him and his predecessor, Sen. Kamala Harris, of being motivated by political bias.

Neither Mr. Becerra nor Ms. Harris has made any secret of their Planned Parenthood support. The organization has given thousands in campaign donations to the Democrats, hosting his primary election party and working with her office on a 2016 bill to crack down on hidden-camera probes against health-care providers, including Planned Parenthood. President Trump Says He Will Send Armed Soldiers To U.S.-Mexico Border

(Worthy News) – President Trump is irate over reports of National Guard troops being stopped at gunpoint by Mexican military at the southern border.

In a tweet Wednesday, the president said the draw of weapons was probably a “diversionary tactic for drug smugglers” and it “better not happen again.”

The president went further stating, “we are now sending armed soldiers to the border.”

18 Dead in Cameroon as Boko Haram Travels Across the Border from Nigeria

by Jordan Hilger, Worthy News Correspondent

(Worthy News) – Two separate attacks in Cameroon’s Far North region, both by Boko Haram, have claimed the lives of 18 people.

Islamic militants made their way into the Madagascar neighborhood of Blangoua Monday evening, taking the lives of seven people, following an attack two weeks ago in Tchakamari area that left eleven “charred” bodies in its wake, according to security services.

The Far North of Cameroon, which borders Nigeria, has seen terrorist activity in recent months as the conflict in Nigeria between Islamic State West Africa, or Boko Haram, and the Christian population has spilled over the border into Cameroon, Nigeria’s southern neighbor.

In November a woman tried to blow herself up in Amchide, injuring 29 people.

It was not the first incursion of the West African branch of IS into the majority Christian nation, where it is estimated that 53% of the population identifies as either Catholic or Protestant. Cameroonian security forces have claimed that 2,500 people were slaughtered by Boko Haram in their country between 2014 and 2017.

As of yet, Cameroon is absent from Open Doors U.S.A.’s World Watch List 2019.

321 Killed in Sri Lankan IS Attacks

(Worthy News) – Christians in Sri Lanka are reeling from a series of coordinated attacks Sunday that killed 323 people and injured 500 others.

St. Sebastian’s Church in Negombo, St. Anthony’s Shrine in Colombo, and Zion church in Batticaloa, as well as several hotels that tend to attract foreign nationals, were shaken by explosions that began at 8:45 on Easter Morning.

“The preliminary investigations have revealed that what happened in Sri Lanka was in retaliation for the attack against Muslims in Christchurch,” Sri Lanka’s defense minister, Ruwan Wijewardene, told reporters, referring to the massacre of New Zealand mosque attendees by a white nationalist in March.

IS (ISIS) later claimed responsibility for the attacks, explaining its choice of foreign hotels and churches as a strategic “target[ing] of the [Western] crusader alliance and Christians in Sri Lanka.”

Local residents explained that Muslim attitudes in Sri Lanka have soured toward Christians in recent years.

“Since the past three years, we don’t know why, but we see an extremist’s mindset developing among the Muslims,” Eranda Weththasinghe, a local witness from Negombo, told Morning Star News.

The role of Islamic extremism in the suicide bombings came as a surprise to some who witnessed the conflict in Sri Lanka over the last few decades between the predominantly Hindu Tamil ethnic minority and the Buddhist Sinhalese, who constitute 75% of the population. That civil war was supposed to have ended in 2009, and the country has not seen violence on the scale of Sunday’s attacks since.

The U.S. declared ISIS defeated as it lost its final territorial holds in Syria last month.

Greenblatt: Trump plan doesn’t include Jordan-Palestinian union

(Worthy News) – An architect of a still-secret U.S. plan to end the Israeli-Palestinian conflict took to Twitter again on Wednesday to disclose another element that it would not contain – a confederation with neighboring Jordan.

U.S. President Donald Trump’s Middle East envoy, Jason Greenblatt, had already tweeted “False!” on Friday to what he said were reports that the proposal would give part of Egypt’s Sinai desert to the adjacent Palestinian enclave of Gaza, which is ruled by the Islamist Hamas terror group.

On Wednesday, Greenblatt denied that the plan envisages a confederation involving Jordan, Israel and the Palestinian Authority, which administers limited self-rule in the occupied West Bank. [ Source: YNet News (Read More…) ]

Kim, Putin begin first summit over denuclearization, economic cooperation

(Worthy News) – North Korean leader Kim Jong Un began his first summit with President Vladimir Putin in Russia’s Far East city of Vladivostok on Thursday, with a peaceful resolution of Pyongyang’s nuclear quandary expected to top the agenda.

The much-anticipated summit is seen as a key test of Kim’s diplomatic outreach aimed at breaking a logjam in a denuclearization parley with the United States, easing sanctions pressure and catalyzing his lackluster drive for economic development.

Iran threatens ‘consequences’ if US takes ‘crazy measure’ of blocking oil sales

(Worthy News) – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif on Wednesday warned the United States of “consequences” if it prevents Tehran from selling oil, after Washington ended sanction exemptions over the Islamic Republic’s energy exports.

“We believe that Iran will continue to sell its oil,” Zarif said at an event at the Asia Society in New York, according to the Reuters news agency. “We will continue to find buyers for our oil and we will continue to use the Strait of Hormuz as a safe transit passage for the sale of our oil.

“If the United States takes the crazy measure of trying to prevent us from doing that then it should be prepared for the consequences,” he added. “[US President Donald Trump] thinks through further pressure on Iran — the so-called ‘maximum pressure policy’ — he can bring us to our knees. He’s mistaken.” [ Source: Times of Israel (Read More…) ]

12,000 Boy Scouts members were victims of sexual abuse from thousands of leaders, expert says

(Worthy News) – More than 12,000 Boy Scout members have been victims of childhood sexual abuse at the hands of 7,819 allegedly sexually abusive troop leaders and volunteers, according to an analysis of long-held records in the organization known as the “perversion files.”

The perversion files, which have previously been highlighted, show thousands of offenders of childhood sexual abuse that have been removed from the Boy Scouts of America over the years. The files were kept private at the BSA headquarters.

At a press conference in New York City on Tuesday, trial lawyer Jeff Anderson, a widely recognized pioneer in sexual abuse litigation and a champion of survivors of childhood sexual abuse, revealed the abuse numbers based on the testimony of Dr. Janet Warren, a professor in the Department of Psychiatry & Neurobehavioral Sciences at the University of Virginia’s medical school from a case earlier this year. Man storms German church yelling ‘Allahu Akbar,’ injures 9 people

(Worthy News) – Parishioners said a man screamed Arabic phrases, including “Allahu Akbar,” as he charged into the St. Paul’s Parish Church on Saturday. The assailant, identified by police as a 36-year-old Somali man, caused injuries to at least nine people.

Marko Petrovic – who was pushed aside by the assailant – told the Munich-based tz paper on Wednesday, “The man ran past me, rammed my elbow into his side and called ‘Allahu Akbar.’ He threw something. A few visitors, strong men, were able to pull him to the ground and hold him until the police arrived.”

The Munich police issued a statement on Sunday, stating the offender “entered the church through the main entrance, gesticulating and shouting unintelligible words. In addition, he is said to have thrown several stones in the church.” [ Source: Jerusalem Post (Read More…) ]
