Obama Florida Campaign Chair Appointed to Helm Super PAC’s 2020 Efforts Against Trump

by Jordan Hilger, Worthy News Correspondent

(Worthy News) – For Our Future, a liberal super PAC run by hedge-fund billionaire Tom Steyer, announced Friday that it would roll out its largest budget to-date in an effort to combat President Trump in seven swings states he won in 2016.

The PAC has reportedly devoted $80 million to $90 million dollars to grassroots organizing aimed at beating Trump in Florida, Michigan, Nevada, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Wisconsin, appointing former Obama Florida campaign manager Ashley Walker, who enabled Obama to win that state in both 2008 and 2012, to helm the effort.

“Over the cycles, we’ve gotten smarter and better at what we do,” Walker said, with For Our Future intending to begin phone calls and door-to-door solicitations to Florida voters at the end of this year—almost a year in advance of the 2020 elections and six months earlier than it did in 2016.

“For Our Future is one of the most effective and important progressive grassroots organizations in the country, and their work will be integral to the 2020 outcome,” said Heather Hargreaves, director of Steyer’s NextGen organization.

Tom Steyer is also the founder of the San Francisco-based Need to Impeach, which has garnered 8 million signatures for its petition calling on Congress to impeach President Trump and is the third largest political organization in the country behind the Democratic and Republican parties.

For Our Future describes itself on its website as “a people-driven organization committed to serving progressive values.”

Man on Motorcycle Appears From Nowhere to Rescue Missionaries from Gun-Toting Crowd

by Jordan Hilger, Worthy News Correspondent

(Worthy News) – A group of missionaries was spared from a gun-wielding mob of protesters in Haiti following a visitation by a man on a motorcycle who told them “it’s going to be okay.”

Fred Chalker, the founder of Living Water Ministries, Drew Pasler, Jeff Lee, Jackie Brandon, and Doug Burbella, the team doctor, were only a few hours outside Port-Au-Prince airport after having flown into the country with supplies and computers for a new community center when a hundred man-strong crowd materialized, seemingly out of thin air, and blocked the street.

“This is not a normal thing that happened,” said Fred Chalker, who averred that on the hundreds of previous trips he’d taken to Haiti, nothing of the sort had ever occurred.

The group began to become apprehensive when protesters wearing voodoo paint turned their ire on the stopped vehicle in which the missionaries were stranded and began brandishing their weapons.

Shots were fired.

“As I’m reversing that’s when we started hearing the guns firing that were pointed at us,” related Drew Pasler, who tried to steer the group out of the danger zone–to no avail. Shortly thereafter, a blood-soaked Doug Burbella was discovered to have incurred two mortal bullet wounds.

“I heard Doug yell, ‘I’m dying. I’ve been hit.'” Pasler said.

Hope evaporated as a gun-toting protester approached the vehicle and pointed his weapon at Burbella’s head, preparing to squeeze the trigger.

But help arrived.

“A man on a motorcycle just kind of pulled out of nowhere in front of me. And he looked at me and said ‘it’s okay, it’s going to be okay,’ in perfect English,” Pasler remembered.

The man then spoke calmly to the crowd in Creole.

“Everybody around us that had the guns just kind of stopped,” he recalled.

Jackie Brandon remembered the instantaneous change of atmosphere.

“I don’t know what they saw,” she mused, “but they stepped back and the tension was gone.”

The group had no time to discover the fate of the mysterious man who had intervened on their behalf, opting to abandon their vehicle and flee to the nearest medical center on foot.

Doug Burbella, who had requested his friends to record his dying words to his wife and son, was flown to Delray Medical Center in Delray Beach, Florida, and miraculously spared after doctors successfully removed bullets and shrapnel from his face and neck.

“I want people to know that if God can carry me through this with no loss of any function, really, whatever problems you have, they’re equally minuscule,” Burbella said.

“It’s a miracle. It’s a shout-out to say your problem is equally small, and God can carry you through it.”

Haiti has been riven by protests since a trade deal between it and Venezuela broke down last July, leading to a 50% spike in fuel prices.

70 protesters have died in the violence since.

Saudi king urges world to rein in Iran

(Worthy News) – Saudi King Salman Thursday night called for an international stance against Iranian acts, which he said pose a threat to global security and flow of oil supplies.

Addressing an emergency summit of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) in the Saudi holy city of Makkah, the monarch warned that Iran’s interference in the Arab region’s affairs and development of its nuclear and ballistic programs constitute a “glaring defiance” of the UN charters.

“We require the international community to shoulder its responsibility towards the Iranian practices, which pose a threat to the world security and peace and use all means to stop the Iranian regime’s interference in other countries’ internal affairs and its sponsorship of terrorist activities in the region and the world,” he said at the opening of the GCC meeting. Netanyahu Meets With Kushner, Greenblatt After Suffering Major Loss in Israel’s Parliament

(Worthy News) – Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met with Jared Kushner, senior advisor to President Trump, and US Envoy to the Middle East Jason Greenblatt on Thursday.

US Special Representative for Iran Brian Hook and Israeli Ambassador to the US Ron Dermer were also present.

The meeting was held a day after Israel was thrown into unprecedented political chaos. Netanyahu was unable to resolve divisions among the right-wing Knesset parties and failed to form a government coalition by a Wednesday night deadline. Instead, the Knesset voted to dissolve itself and schedule a national election on Sept. 17. It will be the first time the country goes to the polls twice in the same year. House Democrats Vote to Lift Ban on Embryonic Gene-Editing Research

(Worthy News) – Scientists and ethicists worldwide are calling for a global moratorium on editing the DNA in human embryos, but a Democratic-led committee in the U.S. House of Representatives wants to leave the door wide open to the controversial research. On May 23, the House Appropriations subcommittee that focuses on funding related to the Food and Drug Administration drafted a bill that would drop the ban prohibiting the FDA from considering such research.

Congressional lawmakers instituted the ban in 2016 to prevent scientists from producing a baby with heritable genetic modifications. A rider to that law also bars the National Institutes of Health from funding research that genetically modifies human sperm, eggs, or embryos. The studies could be privately funded but cannot get very far without FDA approval to conduct clinical trials.

Rep. Jeff Fortenberry of Nebraska, the top Republican on the Appropriations subcommittee, opposed the changes to the law. “This is a prohibition that is accepted by nearly every nation in the world due to the unknown risks,” he said. [ Source: World Magazine (Read More…) ]

Louisiana’s governor, a Democrat, signs ‘heartbeat’ abortion bill into law

(Worthy News) – Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards, a Democrat, broke from his party’s ideology Thursday and signed a bill that would prohibit women from having an abortion once a baby’s heartbeat is detected, in almost all cases.

Edwards urged his party colleagues to do so as well, tweeting a statement on Wednesday saying “I call on the overwhelming bipartisan majority of legislators who voted for it to join me in continuing to build a better Louisiana that cares for the least among us and provides more opportunity for everyone.”

The fetal heartbeat abortion ban applies to pregnancies as early as six weeks, before some woman even know they are pregnant and include exceptions only for “medically futile” instances where the mother’s health is at risk or the baby is stillborn. The bill necessitates an ultrasound to confirm pregnancy and does not include exceptions for women who were victims of rape and incest. [ Source: Fox News (Read More…) ]

Atheist group sues Texas judge for ‘unconstitutional’ opening prayer

(Worthy News) – An anti-religious group is suing a Texas judge for opening prayer — for the second time.

The Freedom From Religion Foundation (FFRF) is suing Montgomery County Judge Wayne Mack, who is Justice of the Peace for a precinct about 50 miles north of Houston, for an opening ceremony that includes pledges and prayer. The Wisconsin-based group said the practice violates the Establishment Clause of the Constitution.

“Judge Mack’s actions remain unconstitutional,” Annie Laurie Gaylor, FFRF co-president, said in a statement. “We’re relitigating to safeguard the U.S. Constitution and to keep our country’s courtrooms equally accessible to all people, regardless of their personal religious or nonreligious beliefs.”
