Federal deficit to rise to $900 billion for 2019, highest since 2012: CBO

(Worthy News) – The Congressional Budget Office projected Thursday that the federal deficit would reach $896 billion for fiscal 2019, up $117 billion from the year before.

That would be the largest shortfall, relative to the economy, since 2012, when the U.S. was still suffering from the financial crisis. The deficit projection was nearly unchanged from the nonpartisan congressional scorekeeper’s previous estimates in January.

Thursday’s projections assume that Congress and the Trump administration do nothing to increase spending between now and Sept. 30, the end of the fiscal year. But that’s unlikely. Senior senators expect to hash out an emergency disaster aid package with the president in the near-term, and in the long-term negotiations to prevent a government shutdown could raise spending on defense and domestic programs. Fearing attack on its forces, US sends carrier force to Middle East, warns Iran

(Worthy News) – A White House decision to dispatch an aircraft carrier and other military resources to send a message to Iran followed “clear indications” that Iranian and Iranian proxy forces were preparing to possibly attack US forces in the region, a defense official told the Associated Press.

The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive information, said the Pentagon approved the deployments and that US forces at sea and on land were thought to be the potential targets. The official declined to be more specific.

White House national security adviser John Bolton said in a statement Sunday night that the US is deploying the USS Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group and a bomber task force to the US Central Command region, an area that includes the Middle East. [ Source: Times of Israel (Read More…) ]

Ceasefire appears to take hold around Gaza after deadly flareup

(Worthy News) – A ceasefire between Israel and the Gaza terror groups went into effect at 4:30 a.m. Monday, ending two days of intense fighting that saw more than 600 rockets fired at Israel and four Israeli civilians killed, according to the Hamas and Islamic Jihad terror groups.

The Israeli government refused to confirm the reported truce, apparently so as to avoid publicly acknowledging its negotiations with terrorist groups. However, the military announced that, as of 7 a.m., it was lifting all security restrictions that had been in place in the south during the fighting, and that schools would be allowed to open, indicating that a ceasefire had indeed been reached.

An Egyptian official also confirmed the deal to AFP on condition of anonymity. [ Source: Times of Israel (Read More…) ]
