(Worthy News) – While few expect the advisors’ meeting this month in Jerusalem to produce immediate results, American and Israeli officials hope that it could prepare the ground for a deal that would further weaken Russian ties to Iran and reduce, if not terminate, Iran’s presence in Syria.

Among multiple scenarios being bounced around, some analysts believe a possible deal could involve Russia pushing Iran out of Syria, a key US and Israeli demand, in exchange for the lifting of at least some American and European sanctions against Russia and US acceptance of the regime of Syrian President Bashar Assad.

The officials suggest that a recent Russian refusal to sell Iran its most advanced S-400 missile defense system because it could fuel regional tensions, as well as tacit Russian acquiescence to Israeli military strikes against Iranian and Lebanese Shi’ite militia Hezbollah targets in Syria, could open the door to a potential deal. (Worthy News) – New York Mayor and Democratic presidential contender Bill de Blasio said that he supports allowing everyone, including those who are undocumented, to get a driver’s license in New York.

In a video originally posted Thursday to Twitter, then reposted Monday, the mayor urges passage of the so-called “ Green Light NY” bill, which would allow illegal immigrants access to the “standard license,” one of three types of licenses the federal government is set to roll out in 2020.

“You know, when I’m in New York City traffic, I’m not thinking about whether someone is documented or undocumented. I’m thinking about whether someone drives safely, and the best way to make sure that people drive safe is if they have a driver’s license,” de Blasio said. (Worthy News) – The Democratic mayor of a Texas border town had some strong words for staffers from Republican Sen. John Cornyn’s office about asylum-seekers and immigration.

Bruno Lozano, the mayor of Del Rio, Texas, criticized the federal government for failing to take a more hands-on role in protecting border towns like his at a meeting earlier this month. He said that lawmakers should come and see what the town and others across the state are dealing with. Lozano’s town was recently in the news after migrants from Africa made their way into the area.

“They need to see firsthand what’s going on. They need to understand the frustrations that the commissioners, or that the city council, the school board, the hospital officials are managing [and] having to deal with,” Lozano said. [ Source: Washington Examiner (Read More…) ]

(Worthy News) – France, Germany, and Spain will cooperate to produce the next generation of European fighter jets, according to European officials who met at the Paris air show Monday.

By 2040, the new line of jets being manufactured by Dassault Aviation and Airbus will be ready to replace the current generation of Eurofighter Typhoons, as well as reduce European dependence on American military support.

“It will shape Europe’s most decisive military air combat programme for the decades to come and turn out a strong move in constructing Europe’s sovereignty,” Eric Trappier, CEO of Dassault, said of the Future Combat Air System (FCAS) Monday.

The initiative follows remarks by French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel last year that the creation of a common European army is a necessary step towards Europe’s future as a unified civilization, “not [as] an army against NATO,” according to Merkel, but as “a good complement to NATO.”

The decision by America’s European allies comes amidst deep questions about the viability of the same, stirred by President Trump’s reluctance since his election to shoulder the lion’s share of the military outfit’s budget, as the US has traditionally done.

(Worthy News) – Iran will not hesitate from stepping up its uranium enrichment to 20%, an Iranian nuclear spokesperson said Monday.

Iran gave an original deadline of July 7th for the European signatories to the 2015 nuclear deal, from which the US withdrew last year, to find workarounds to Trump’s economic sanctions before it began uranium enrichment above the 3.76% to which it was limited by the agreement.

Because the European countries have not done so to Iran’s satisfaction, the country will now break the stipulations of the accord in 10 days “based on the country’s needs” for nuclear power, Behrouz Kamalvandi, a spokesman for Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization, said.

Besides its nuclear ambitions, Iran has been pinned for a number of provocations in the region over the last two months, which include an attack on Saudi oil tankers last month, a drone attack on Abha airport in Saudi Arabia for which Iran-backed Yemeni Houthi rebels took credit Monday, and another attack on two petroleum shipping vessels last Thursday in the Gulf of Oman that US officials say they have now confidently attributed to the Iranian Revolutionary Guards.

“The problem is in Tehran and not anywhere else,” Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman told an Arab-language newspaper Sunday. “Iran is always the party that’s escalating in the region, carrying out terrorist attacks and criminal attacks either directly or through its militias.”

Nuclear experts say that although 90% uranium enrichment is generally required to make a nuclear bomb, a nuclear weapon could technically be produced at much lower levels of enrichment, and the shift from 20 to 90% enrichment is, in any case, hardly a quantum leap.

(Worthy News) – U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) released new images Monday showing the aftermath of mine attacks against two oil tankers in the Gulf of Oman last week, including some images purporting to show Iranian forces removing an unexploded device from the hull of one of the vessels.

Hours later, Acting Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan said he had approved a request from CENTCOM to send approximately 1,000 additional troops to the Middle East “to address air, naval, and ground-based threats” in the region.

“The recent Iranian attacks validate the reliable, credible intelligence we have received on hostile behavior by Iranian forces and their proxy groups that threaten United States personnel and interests across the region,” Shanahan said. “The United States does not seek conflict with Iran. (Worthy News) – Germany and Britain on Monday warned Tehran not to breach uranium stockpile limits set by the 2015 nuclear deal, as the EU’s diplomatic chief dismissed Iranian threats as “political dialectics.”

Iran set a 10-day countdown on Monday to exceed the 300-kilogram limit set on its enriched uranium stocks, dealing another blow to the crumbling nuclear accord signed by Tehran and six international powers.

(Worthy News) – The U.S. Air Force successfully flight-tested a hypersonic weapon from a B-52 Stratofortress bomber, defense giant Lockheed Martin announced Monday.

A hypersonic weapon is a missile that travels at Mach 5 or higher, which is at least five times faster than the speed of sound. That means a hypersonic weapon can travel about one mile per second.

In August, the Pentagon awarded Lockheed Martin its second multimillion-dollar contract to develop the AGM-183A Air-Launched Rapid Response Weapon, or ARRW, hypersonic missile. The Air Force said the ARRW system will stand for more ground and flight testing over the next three years. The hypersonic missile is expected to be completed by 2022. [ Source: CNBC (Read More…) ]

(Worthy News) – The United States Supreme Court vacated a ruling against a Christian couple forced to pay $135,000 for refusing to make a gay wedding cake.

In an order released Monday morning, the high court vacated an earlier ruling against Aaron and Melissa Klein, a Christian couple from Oregon who lost their bakery and were ordered to pay $135,000 in damages for refusing to make a cake for a same-sex wedding in 2013.

The Supreme Court sent the case back to the Court of Appeals of Oregon “for further consideration” due to the 2018 decision in Masterpiece Cakeshop v. Colorado Civil Rights Commission. [ Source: Christian Post (Read More…) ]
