US Must Prevent Establishment of Iranian ‘Land Bridge’ to Mediterranean, New Think Tank Paper Urges

(Worthy News) – Iran is seeking to build a “land bridge” to extend the reach of its influence all the way to the Mediterranean Sea, and “disrupting” this corridor should be a priority of the United States, a paper published on Tuesday by the Washington, DC-based Foundation for Defense of Democracies (FDD) think tank said.

The paper, authored by David Adesnik and Benham Ben Taleblu, respectively director of research and a senior fellow at FDD, with a forward penned by former US National Security Adviser Lt. Gen. H.R. McMaster, chairman of FDD’s Center on Military and Political Power, also asserted that while the US needed to prevent the establishment of the “land bridge,” it must at the same time avoid “a myopic focus” on it that would lead to overlooking wider Iranian ambitions is the region. Israel unveils portable Iron Dome at Paris air show

(Worthy News) – Israeli aerospace company Rafael has unveiled a portable Iron Dome missile defense battery this week, promising deployed troops the same protection the original system provided for civilian populations.

The I-Dome, designed to protect troops from rockets, mortars and UAV attacks, was among several new Israeli-made weapons systems featured this week at the Paris Air Show.

The scaled-down missile battery fits on the back of a large flatbed truck, making the system easily transportable. Its cartridge holds 10 Tamir interceptor misses, instead of the 20 used by its larger Iron Dome counterpart. [ Source: Times of Israel (Read More…) ]

U.S. Senate To Vote On Bill To Block Trump’s Sale of Weapons To Saudi Arabia, Others

(Worthy News) – The U.S. Senate will vote on June 20 on legislation seeking to block $8 billion in arms sales to Saudi Arabia and other Arab allies, as lawmakers’ anger with Riyadh increases.

The administration of President Donald Trump took the extraordinary step of bypassing Congress to approve the sale of aircraft support maintenance, munitions, and other weapons to Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said the administration was responding to an emergency caused by the threats posed by Sunni Muslim Saudi Arabia’s historical rival, Shi’ite-led Iran, which backs Huthi rebels in Yemen in what experts have called a “proxy war” between Riyadh and Tehran.
