US nuke locations accidentally exposed in NATO-affiliated report

(Worthy News) – A document accidentally published by a NATO-affiliated body has hit headlines across Europe this week, seeming to affirm a longstanding open secret that is technically still classified: precisely where in Europe the United States stores its nuclear weapons.

According to the document — entitled “A new era for nuclear deterrence? Modernization, arms control and allied,” which was published in April but has since been deleted — the U.S stores its caches totaling more than 150 nuclear weapons in Belgium, Italy, Germany, the Netherlands, and Turkey.

“These bombs are stored at six U.S. and European bases – Kleine Brogel in Belgium, Buchel in Germany, Aviano and Ghedi-Torre in Italy, Volkel in The Netherlands, and Incirlik in Turkey,” the report, authored by Canadian lawmaker Joseph Day, noted. [ Source: Fox News (Read More…) ]

Trey Gowdy: AG William Barr’s reputation as an ‘incredible lawyer’ untouched by contempt

(Worthy News) – Trey Gowdy said William Barr has nothing to worry about after the attorney general was held in criminal contempt by the House on Wednesday.

“Barr is ostensibly being held in contempt for not turning over a document he has no legal obligation to turn over,” the former South Carolina Republican congressman said on Fox News.

Gowdy hearkened back several years to when President Barack Obama’s attorney general, Eric Holder, was held in contempt by the House after refusing to turn over documents related to the botched Fast and Furious gun-tracking operation. [ Source: Washington Examiner (Read More…) ]

House holds Barr, Ross in criminal contempt over census documents

(Worthy News) – The U.S. House of Representatives voted on Wednesday to hold Attorney General William Barr and Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross in criminal contempt for defying congressional subpoenas related to the U.S. census.

The measure, which passed 230-198, was a response to the cabinet members’ failure to produce documents requested by House Democrats as part of an investigation into whether the Trump administration attempted to add a citizenship question to the 2020 census that would discriminate against racial minorities.

Four Democrats voted against the measure, while no Republicans supported it. Justin Amash, an independent congressman from Michigan who recently left the Republican Party, voted in favor of the resolution. [ Source: Reuters (Read More…) ]

House notches rare bipartisan vote to repeal part of Obamacare

(Worthy News) – Republicans and Democrats came together Wednesday to perform an act rarely seen on Capitol Hill: voting to repeal part of Obamacare.

The legislation, the Middle Class Health Benefits Tax Repeal Act, passed easily via a procedural process meant to expedite uncontroversial legislation. Only six lawmakers voted against it. The bill gutted the Obamacare “Cadillac Tax,” which is a 40% excise tax on health insurance coverage deemed overly generous.

The “Cadillac Tax” was once seen as integral to funding the healthcare law but is now widely viewed by lawmakers as a penalty on the middle class. [ Source: Washington Examiner (Read More…) ]

US House votes to block Saudi, UAE arms sales, bucking Trump veto threat

(Worthy News) – The U.S. House voted Wednesday to block White House plans for select sales of smart bombs and related components to Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, baiting President Donald Trump’s veto.

Mostly along party lines, the House passed three Senate-passed measures in three votes, venting frustration over civilian casualties in the Saudi air campaign in Yemen and the Trump administration’s declaration of an emergency to bypass the congressional review process for $8.1 billion in weapon sales to the Mideast.

Since neither the House nor the Senate passed the measures with a supermajority, the measures are vulnerable to the White House’s veto. Two House votes were 238-190, and the last was 237-190, with only four Republicans and one Independent crossing party lines each time to vote with Democrats, who had no defectors. U.S. removing Turkey from F-35 program after its Russian missile defense purchase

(Worthy News) – The United States said on Wednesday that it was removing Turkey from the F-35 fighter jet program, a move that had been long threatened and expected after Ankara began accepting delivery of an advanced Russian missile defense system last week.

The first parts of the S-400 air defense system were flown to the Murted military air base northwest of Ankara on Friday, sealing Turkey’s deal with Russia, which Washington had struggled for months to prevent.

“The U.S. and other F-35 partners are aligned in this decision to suspend Turkey from the program and initiate the process to formally remove Turkey from the program,” said Ellen Lord, the under secretary of defense for acquisition and sustainment. [ Source: Reuters (Read More…) ]

‘I Believe Americans Have a Right to Know’: New Jersey Representative Presents Bill Asking Government to Disclose Its Involvement in Lyme Disease

by Jordan Hilger, Worthy News Correspondent

(Worthy News) – A New Jersey Republican Senator is calling for an investigation by the House of Representatives into whether the Department of Defense used weaponized ticks between 1950 and 1975.

Representative Chris Smith, who proposed the amendment requiring the US government to divulge its secrets regarding any potential projects during those decades, said that the 300,000 to 437,00 of new American cases of Lyme Disease every year deserved to know the truth.

“My amendment tasks the DoD inspector general to ask the hard questions and report back,” Smith said, saying the bill included a mandate for the DOD to disclose “the parameters of the program” and “who ordered it.”

Additionally, the bill requires the government to release documents concerning whether any weaponized insects were “released outside of any laboratory by accident or experimental design,” a reference no doubt to the post-WWII experiments on Plum Island to which some attribute the sudden emergence of Lyme Disease in Connecticut.

The bill was tacked on to a defense spending bill but will need Senate approval.
