Key Takeaways From Robert Mueller’s Congressional Testimony

(Worthy News) – Robert Mueller refused to play the part. Not for Republicans and not for Democrats.

In back-to-back hearings before the House Judiciary Committee and the House Intelligence Committee, the former special counsel in the investigation of Russian interference into the 2016 presidential elections largely honored his pledge to stick to his 448-page report. He often answered questions in a single word.

Republicans tried to get Mueller to spell out the findings that there wasn’t enough evidence to prove any criminal conspiracy between the Trump campaign and Russia. Democrats pressed him to expand on the conclusion in his report that he could not exonerate President Donald Trump on possible charges of obstruction of justice.

But Mueller left both sides wanting. [ Source: VOA News (Read More…) ]

Mueller Testimony Frustrates Both Parties by Rarely Straying From His Report

“I’ll refer you to the report on that.”

“That’s accurate based on what’s in the report.”

“I don’t want to wade in those waters.”

So it went for more than five hours as former special counsel Robert Mueller appeared before two congressional committees Wednesday to testify about his investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 U.S. presidential election and alleged presidential obstruction of justice, closely hewing to a final report he submitted to Attorney General William Barr in March.

Ahead of his appearance before the House judiciary and intelligence committees, Mueller, a former FBI director, had warned that he’d not stray beyond his 448-page legal thicket. He stuck to his word, frustrating both Democrats and Republicans in the process. [ Source (Read More…) ]

Church School Victory: Government Can’t Discriminate ‘Because They Are Religious’

(Worthy News) – Sarasota County, Florida, has changed course to allow a church to use its own property to educate children in its religious school, according to Alliance Defending Freedom, the non-profit religious freedom legal organization representing the church.

ADF attorneys filed a federal lawsuit on behalf of Englewood Church of the Nazarene, known locally as Crosspoint Church, and its religious school, leading the county to “end discrimination” against the school.

In 2013, the church launched a Christian school for at-risk students which offers “individualized, faith-based education.” [ Source: CBN News (Read More…) ]

5th-century inscriptions near Galilee may show Christians’ fading Greek literacy

(Worthy News) – Some 15 years ago, while on the trail of an elusive Byzantine-era synagogue, archaeologists at the ongoing Hippos-Sussita Excavations Project near the Sea of Galilee began excavating what appeared to be a public building that had been burned to the ground. After quickly discovering that the remains indicated the structure was “just another church” — one of seven at least at the large ancient settlement — the team moved on to other work.

This summer, the settlement’s South-West or Burnt Church was revisited by archaeologists in search of firm dating for the conflagration that both destroyed and preserved the church. They revealed a plethora of interesting artifacts and mosaics — and a nearly illiterate artisan, who had been tasked with inscribing the names of donors and abbots for posterity. Instead, his grammar and spelling mistakes are preserved in a trio of ancient Greek mosaics. (Where is autocorrect when you need it?) [ Source: Times of Israel (Read More…) ]

U.S. Senate sets vote on Trump’s Saudi precision-guided munitions vetoes

(Worthy News) – The U.S. Senate will vote within days on whether to override President Donald Trump’s vetoes of legislation to block the sale of precision-guided munitions to Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said on Wednesday.

McConnell said the Senate would hold the vote before Aug. 2, when lawmakers leave Washington for a five-week-long recess.

The three resolutions of disapproval are not expected to garner the two-thirds majority in the 100-member Senate needed to override the vetoes, however. Only a handful of Trump’s fellow Republicans, who hold 53 seats in the Senate, backed the resolutions when they passed last month. [ Source: Jerusalem Post (Read More…) ]

North Korea fires short-range missiles in latest provocation

(Worthy News) – North Korea fired two short-range missiles into the sea on Thursday, complicating efforts to resume stalled nuclear talks with Washington and signaling its anger over planned US-South Korea joint military exercises.

It was the North’s first missile test since an impromptu meeting between US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un last month that produced an agreement to resume a working-level denuclearization dialogue.

But those talks have yet to begin, and Pyongyang warned recently they could be derailed by Washington and Seoul’s refusal to scrap military exercises scheduled for next month. [ Source: Times of Israel (Read More…) ]

Jim Jordan to Mueller: Report Says Man Who Started This Whole Thing Lied to You – Why Not Charge Him?

(Worthy News) – Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) questioned former Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s selective prosecution tactics at a House hearing on Wednesday.

Jordan was particularly interested in why Mueller would charge “13 Russians no one’s ever heard of,” but not the man who sparked Mueller’s Trump-Russia probe by drawing attention to the now-discredited Steele Dossier: Joseph Mifsud, who reportedly lied to the FBI three times during interviews.
