Hong Kong protesters clash with riot police armed with pepper spray at airport

(Worthy News) – Pro-democracy protesters clashed with riot police at Hong Kong’s airport Tuesday night, after demonstrators shut down operations at the airport for the second straight day, flooding the main terminal in an attack likened by Chinese officials to “terrorism”.

Officers armed with pepper spray and batons confronted the protesters, who used luggage carts to barricade entrances to the airport terminal. Police said they arrested five people for unlawful assembly, assaulting police officers and possessing weapons.

Some protesters detained, harassed and assaulted a traveler and a journalist, and obstructed ambulance workers from taking the two men to the hospital, officials said, adding that other protesters attacked a police officer and snatched a baton from him. [ Source: Fox News (Read More…) ]

China’s economy worsens in July, industrial growth at 17-year low as trade war escalates

(Worthy News) – China’s economy stumbled more sharply than expected in July, with industrial output growth cooling to a more than 17-year low, as the intensifying U.S. trade war took a heavier toll on businesses and consumers.

Activity in China has continued to cool despite a flurry of growth steps over the past year, raising questions over whether more rapid and forceful stimulus may be needed, even if it risks racking up more debt.

After a flicker of improvement in June, analysts said the latest data was evidence that demand faltered across the board last month, from industrial output and investment to retail sales. [ Source: Reuters (Read More…) ]

Federal judge sides with transgender student in Va. bathroom case

(Worthy News) – A federal judge ruled Friday that a Virginia school district’s policy preventing transgender student Gavin Grimm from using boys’ bathroom facilities violates the U.S. Constitution, the latest ruling in a case remanded to lower courts by the U.S. Supreme Court.

The U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia granted Grimm’s motion for summary judgment against Gloucester County School Board.

Judge Arenda Wright Allen, an appointee of President Barack Obama, contended in her court order that the school district violated the14th Amendment and Title IX of education civil rights law by not allowing the biologically female student into boys’ bathrooms and by refusing to change school transcripts to reflect the student’s gender identity. Kenyan Muslims, ‘At Risk To Their Own Lives,’ Protect Christians from Planned Terrorist Attack

by Jordan Hilger, Worthy News Correspondent

(Worthy News) – Christians were spared from a planned terrorist attack in Kenya when their Muslim neighbors stepped in on their behalf.

International Christian Concern reports that Al-Shabaab, the Islamic extremist group that roves throughout Somalia, had hatched a plot to cross the border into Kutulo, Kenya, and kill as many Christian workers as they could find at a construction site for a forthcoming hospital.

Local Muslims who caught wind of the attack beforehand rushed to the scene to warn the Christians and “confronted the gunmen who proceeded to the site,” according to north-eastern regional commissioner Mohamed Birik, allowing 20 believers to escape unharmed.

“It took true bravery to do this,” Nathan Johnson, ICC’s regional manager for Africa, told the Christian Post, adding that acts of bravery, self-sacrifice, and kindness from people of other faiths on behalf of Christians deserved to be recorded along with the acts of persecution.

In 2016, something similar occurred when Kenyan Muslims on a bus hijacked by Al-Shabab protected Christian passengers by refusing to be split into separate groups of faithful and infidel per the terrorist’s demands.

Even though over 80% of Kenya is Christian, terrorist attacks by Islamic extremist groups like Al-Shabab, such as the 2015 Garissa University College shooting that left 150 Christians dead, have placed it 40th on Open Doors USA’s list of countries where it is most difficult to be a Christian.

Rabbis Claim Foxes on Temple Mount Are Sign of ‘Jerusalem Returning To Its Former Glory,’ Harbinger of Forthcoming Temple

by Jordan Hilger, Worthy News Correspondent

(Worthy News) – Foxes were spotted walking on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem last Thursday, fulfilling a prophecy from Lamentations just days before the Tisha B’Av fast that commemorates the destruction of both temples.

In the NASB, KJV, and a variety of Jewish translations of Lamentations 5:18, the foxes walking on Mount Zion are given as a sign of its desolation, but some rabbis were quick to point out that a Talmud tractate gives the same sign as a harbinger of the Temple’s rebuilding.

“Until the prophecy of Uriah with regard to the destruction of the city was fulfilled I was afraid that the prophecy of Zechariah would not be fulfilled, as the two prophecies are linked,” says a laughing Rabbi Akiva to his weeping companions in Makkot 24b when they see a fox poking its head out of the Temple Mount.

The rabbinical tradition is that Micah’s prophecy of the destruction of Jerusalem was originally given by Uriah, its fulfillment showing the reliability of the word of God to perform the Zechariah prophecy as well, which foretells the rebuilding of Jerusalem and its Temple.

“The simple meaning is that the appearance of foxes on the Temple Mount specifically is a key element that opens the way for more prophecies to come to be, most specifically Jerusalem returning to its former glory,” Rabbi Yosef Berger told Breaking Israel News. “The real glory of Jerusalem is embodied on the Temple Mount in the Temple as a House of Prayer for all Nations.”

On Tisha B’Av Sunday, the liturgy of which happens to be the book of Lamentations, a record 1,729 Jews entered the Temple Mount to pray when Israeli police pushed back Muslim protesters.

Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan told the Times of Israel that the quadrupling of the number of Jews ascending the holy site in the last four years signaled the success of his policy to “strengthen Israeli sovereignty on the mount.”
