Our Picks

What models do we think will capture the imagination and the attention of consumers and experts? Here’s a handful that we’re particularly excited about!

2020 X6 – Before anything else, we know that there’s a trade-off with practicality, but we can’t ignore the brilliance of the X6. For us, this model somehow manages the balance between sports car and good design; by good design, we mean sufficient ground clearance. With the second generation coming back in 2014, the 2020 X6 is a redesign and it has many similarities to the recently improved X4.

With prices starting at $65,000, the new X6 is larger than before in both length and width (although only by a tiny amount) and it’s lighter which makes handling around corners a dream. Will you choose the base X6 or the M50i X6? Well, the biggest difference comes with the 523HP compared to 335HP. With 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 units, we can imagine the X6 will be an experience people won’t forget in a hurry.

5-Series – Next, we’re switching our attention to the ‘updated’ list and the 5-Series. Once upon a time, this classic sedan was the favorite for enthusiasts. While it doesn’t necessarily have this draw these days, there’s no denying the capability and spaciousness of the vehicle. No matter your car goals, we’re almost certain the 5-Series will help you to achieve them.

Although there isn’t quite a full facelift for the 5-Series, there are enough changes for it to make an impact in this list. For example, the digital gauge display and in-dash navigation have both joined the model. Elsewhere, there’s a huge jump in horsepower thanks to the 3.0-liter turbocharged straight-six engine.

For those conscious of the environment and their carbon footprint, there’s a plug-in hybrid model; the 530e. Compared to previous iterations, this one has a 12kWh battery (which is larger than before). Once coupled with the 2.0-liter turbo four mill and electric motor, performance is strong. On the other hand, it’s the end for the 540d diesel model.

8-Series Convertible – Finally, there was surprise and excitement in the air when BMW decided to go back in time and release the 8-Series Coupe. Now, what’s considered the flagship of the brand moving forward is improving on the convertible. With the 2020 update, owners will get adaptive dampers, multilink rear suspension, and a limited-slip rear differential (which is adjusted electronically). Just in case you weren’t happy with reaching 60mph in 3.6 seconds, this extra feature allows for even more grip.

Conclusion

There we have it, the full range of new BMW models in 2020. In 2019 alone, the German manufacturer sold over 2.5 million vehicles around the world. Compared to 2018, this was a 1.2% jump. With this in mind, it’s still the leading premium vehicle company across the globe. If they continue to develop models such as those seen in this year’s lineup, we believe consumers will stay loyal for a long time to come!
